Oishii LP

Tonight was my first and last visit to Oishii. My husband and I called ahead of time tonight to ask if they would accept a gift certificate we received for Christmas for Oishii at Timberlyne in Chapel Hill. We didn't know if they were the same restaurant or not. The owner said she would and took our reservation. When the bill came we gave our gift certificate and what it didn't cover. Our waiter came back and said that the gift certificate was not there's. I told him we called ahead of time and the owner said she would accept it. He went and asked her if she would take it and she said no. We tried to stand our ground but she refused saying we didn't say Oishii at Timberlyne when we called. Of course we did or why would we have called in the first place? She said if we didn't pay she would call the police! Seriously! I guess she's never heard the customer is always right. more

Based on the reviews here my wife and I decided to try it for our 4th anniversary. We were very pleased with everything! The service was great and the food was delicious. I had the lamb chops and she had the Walnut glazed shrimp. We both had perfectly mixed cocktails and the desert was equally delicious. We will definitely be dining here again soon! Oishii is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants that I have ever visited. I travel often for business to different cities across the states which results in eating out often. Every aspect of my experience here was perfect. To begin with, the ambiance within the restaurant was relaxing and comforting. The interior decorations were well matched with a beautiful bar in the front of the restaurant. Their service was very professional, friendly waitstaff ready to please. They had live music performance as well on the piano which I especially enjoyed, really sets a restaurant apart from some of the other ones out there. My wife and I have eaten here five times now. The food is always fantastic. We've tried just about everything on the menu and have not been disapointed. The sushi is always very fresh and they serve nice sized portions. I especially enjoyed their lamp chops. Last night I had grouper in chili sauce and it was unbelievable. We recently had a graduation dinner for my daughter with 10 people in attendance. The service was very attentative and all the dishes we ordered were out of this world. They have a wide variety menu, so everyone was able to get something diffferent. One thing I love about this place are the owners and the staff. They really make you feel like guests in their home. Just very freindly and Aaways appreciative of your business. The decor in the resturant is also stunning. Lots of tile and marble. A very nice bar, nice lighting and always impeccably clean. I travel for a living and eat out at least 20 times a month. I think I'm a good judge of great resturants and this one is a keeper. You won't be disapointed. Pros: Located in a small pleasant shopping center at Lochmere with plenty of parking, well lit and easily accessible from Kildaire Farm and Tryon Roads. more

Last week was our 5th visit to Oishii, and we wanted to share our new found secret with friends. Our evening didn't go as well as expected. Let me begin by saying the food has always been and continues to be great. However, when the service is slow or non-existent and you have a total tab of approx. $320, we will be hard-pressed to return. There are many other establishments that would welcome our money. We had to repeatedly go find the hostess or server to refill water glasses, take our order or simply stop by the table to see if everything was OK. Wonderfully varied menu with an Asian flair. Separate room works really well for private parties and the restaurant team is willing to customize menus to suit customers' needs. We just had a graduation party for our daughter with 38 guests and everyone raved about the food, service and a few ""sushi"" zealots said it was the best sushi they've eaten. The duck entree was superbly prepared and just the perfect size entree to enjoy with an appetizer of scallops wrapped with Prosciutto on butternut squash square. Overall, the restaurant was very low key and pleasing; however, the wine you pay for is not what you get. Be careful, the year on the wine bottles are years later than the actual listing on the wine menu- and you still pay the 2002 price for a 2005 bottle....a common, but very unprofessional trick some restaurants use. Though the food was good, and should be given its expensive price, the experience with the wine really let my feeling for the place down. more

Oishii is such a great value, especially for lunch! Service is always prompt and polite, free iced tea, and a generous amount of food for the money. The sushi is excellent, as are the hot entrees. We especially enjoyed the Bento Box, with a little of everything. Every time I eat there, I am impressed. more
