Very good! 11/24/2011

Fantastic food great prices. Service is friendly. Very clean. Can be noisy when crowded. The garlic sauce is amazing and extremely garlicky. All the food has been good. Pros: null Cons: null more

New favorite restaurant - not your typical Mexican style! 10/21/2011

I love this place. The food is not just good, its imaginative and great. Drinks are excellent, too. Tequila, mango and hot chili flavored beverages compliment the food. Great place to share plates - the stuffed peppers, tacos and the ceviche are always good bets. Gets crowded at peak times. Pros: null Cons: null more

every meal is 5 star 3/13/2011

I have gone here about 20x and evey meal is fantastic, and they have the best cinnamon ice cream ever. I love the eating bar, love the ambiance and the wait staff are terrific. go here you won't regret it more

Good food, great prices, one downfall 11/17/2010

I have to admit I have heard a lot of good things about this restaurant, so I talked my fiance into taking me there. Once we entered we were greeted and were told the wait would be 35-40 mins, so we decided to stay with the option of having a drink and appetizers at the bar. The drinks were out of this world good, spicy margaritas and a chile mango martini. Before we knew it our table was ready (it really only took 20 mins for a table to open up). The wait staff was very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. We were served hot tortillas with a very mild salsa to start with which were very tasty. more

Exceptional! 10/28/2010

At the risk of never being able to get a table again,I will confess...If I lived nearer to this restaurant, I would eat here every night. I've traveled all through Mexico, and lived in Texas. This is not Tex-Mex (food covered in cheese) this is as good...or better than any Mexican food I ever had in Texas, and brings back memories of many fabulous meals I had in Mexico. The Enchiladas Verde are perfect, The Tortilla Soup is just as it should be....and the Chile Relleno is the best I've ever eaten. The sauces are excellent.....I could name every dish...but they are all wonderful. The staff is (sincerely) friendly, the bar is great. This is as they say....The Real Deal! more

Best margarita in town 8/6/2010

The bar here is fantastic! It's always busy but worth the wait. I prefer to sit at the bar and snack on appetizers - the bartenders are always a lot of fun. :) Though all the food on the menu is awesome, the sopes & the chile relleno are my faves. more

Good food - try the ceviche. 3/1/2010

One day I was craving ceviche. So I came to Yelp, typed in ceviche & Nuestra Cocina was one of the places that came up. After reading all the great reviews, we decided to give it a shot. more

Warm Tortillas remind me of Abuela 8/27/2009

I love this restaurant! The fresh made warm tortillas are alway tasty. The staff is very accomodati8ng and friendly. Their twist to familiar recipes are so wonderful, I am very happy to see a restaurant serving Latino foods that are not smothered in cheddar cheese! Cons: small place and often crowded... that's not a bad thing more

Food is Good...but 8/23/2009

Good Food and Menu, but average service and it was LOUD the two times we've been there. We would go more often if it was in a better location. Pros: Good Food Cons: Seating more

Sub par service, good food 7/4/2009

Tried a neighborhood recommendation last week and while it has unique fresh food you can't help but be soured by a host with no interest in really seeing where you order is as those next to you are seated after you, order an appetizer and drink (like us) and are finished with their meal before ours is served. no apology, no its coming right up just a "they ordered an appetizer and thats why theirs is out first" We ordered appetizers too and that is no excuse. Thats the last we saw of our host. Guess I scared him. Sorry if I did. Pros: Fresh fish Cons: disinterested offended host more

Best food and service in Portland! 2/19/2009

This restaurant is an absolute gem. I've been almost ten times and it amzes me every time. From the spicy chile infused tequila margaritas to the daily ceviche, to the open kitchen with friendly chefs, nuestra cocina is a one of a kind experience. My favorite restaurant in Portland by far. more

Favorite restaurant in Portland - always great! 12/11/2008

I have been to Nuestra Cocina so many times and always have a great experience. It has a pleasant "nice casual" atmosphere with friendly, helpful servers. The pretty, warm-colored dining room is relaxing and pleasant. The bartender is great and the chile-infused margarita is deliciously spicy. It is so homey to sit down and enjoy those little handmade tortillas. Some of my favorites - any fish special (don't even think about it, just get it, you won't be sorry) the albondigas when they have it, and surprisingly, the delicious shrimp entree (don't usually care for boring shrimps). For dessert, try the lemon curd empanada or the rich drinking chocolate. Fabulous! The sous chef is great and it is fun to sit up at the counter and watch him cook (he makes the absolutely delicious desserts, too!!). The other cooks are talented and friendly and obviously care about their food. For the delicious food and good-sized portions, this place is a wonderful value. Pros: Everything! Food, service, drinks, value. Cons: Can get a little busy and cramped because it is so good! more

Great food! Great staff! except Christina 8/28/2008

I go to this restaurant often, I love the place. But, every once in awhile I have the misfortune of being served by Christina. Wow! She is possibly the worst server I have ever seen. I have had to wait many times at least 15 minutes just for her to stop by the table and even longer for a drink order or for apps. Several times other staff have had to take meal orders and most often deliver them to my table. Why Is this girl still working in such a great restaurant? more

Better than most 7/10/2008

Growing up in LA and frequenting Tijuana, I found the best Mexican food to be at hole in the walls, carts, food trucks, etc. It's just one of those cuisines that?s best when cheap. However, there's only one such place in Portland that offers excellent fare: little dive next to a market on Fremont and 84ish. more

harried and busy constantly 6/18/2008

Food is good, but expensive, just know that you are going to have to drop some cash to truly enjoy this place. Also note that portions are small. They are busy, busy, busy. We usually get seated promptly...each employee seems to be doing the best that they can, but the place is usually packed and everyone is running around like crazy. It is not a relaxing experience by far, you are encouraged to eat as fast as possible. It is not a place to go if you want to sit and enjoy your meal. Pros: homemade tortillas Cons: expensive, small portions, harried servers more
