State School 5/21/2006

My younger sister attends Northern Illinois University. I have gone to visit her several times and it is a big university with lots of students. It is a state school, so it is not only pretty inexpensive, but also really massive. The class sizes are big and so you don't get as much presonal attention here. But the facilities are great and there's a really nice student body here. They have a few great programs here and if you are looking into any of them then this would be a great choice for you. more

I took classes here some years ago. It is a massive campus, and I got a great deal of exercise walking everday which is always a good thing.I had no car at the time and rarely rode the bus by choice. Like other universities of this kind, there was almost no personal attention given to students from professors or teachers. I didn't care for some of the kids here at the time with their "I'm better than you because I'm from the burbs" attitude. I did meet some nice people however from other towns and states here. Well, with an over 25,000 student population, you will always find a number of cool people. Some of the classes were memorable, and some of these "cool" people I met hold a special place in my heart to this day. more

Northern Illinois University is a great school that you should consider when selecting your college. I think the campus is beautiful and huge (So yes, walking to class can be a pain the butt) and the class selection is great. The tuition rates are standard, but I think the education is above standard. The school hosts many concerts that students can get in for discounted rates and the football team is great! more

Nice University in DeKalb 8/25/2005

Northern Illinois University is a pretty good university on a large sprawling campus. They are famous for their nursing program and the mini-hospital like building they have for the nurses to be to practice in. Downfalls to the university are that it may take you 20 minutes to walk to class and that it gets very cold there during the winters. Another downfall is that it is known as a "suitcase" school because most students go home on the weekends instead of staying and hanging out. This is because it is in a farm town and it is a close enough drive for most of the attending to just drive home on the weekends. more
