Best Resturaunt in Bushwick 11/8/2009

I just moved right around the corner from this place, and i love it. Its a quiet, cool atmosphere for west Bushwick/east Williamsburg locals, and the food is outstanding. Its a very tiny menu, limited selection-but it is all good! Will be going back very soon Pros: quiet, local atmoshpehere, excellent fries Cons: not the best service from the waitress everytime more

Best Bite in Bushwick 1/2/2009

This place is incredible! I live right around the corner from the ""Kingdom"" and can honestly say that after having eaten there countless times, I've never been bored. The staff is friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is incredible and cozy, and best of all their food is out of this world. It's a french-american, home-cooked fusion cuisine with a small but perfected menu and daily specials to entice old veterans like myself. I would definitely recommend this place...it's work the trip out to Bushwick. Pros: Ambience, Friendly Staff, Amazing Food, Reasonably Priced Cons: No reservations, Long Wait more

Escape from typical Bushwick dining 6/9/2008

Traditional American food with a hint of gourmet. Nice atmosphere, great spot to take mom and dad when visiting or grab a glass of wine with a friend. The pour is usually pretty generous too! I have never been dissapointed with an entree and the menu has recently been updated (finally). The BLT is good for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Brunch ends around 3 but they're usually out of food by 1 and out of tables always (annoying, but speaks well for the brunch). Staff is very friendly, however, very slow....that's my only gripe. Great place, wish we had more like it here in ""East Williamsburg"" (just call it Bushwick, you're not fooling anyone. Pros: Food Cons: Service more

to the delivery review below... 5/9/2008

if you're out of delivery area, you're out of delivery area. you already stated that you were placing your order late in the shift, why is it so inconceivable that they aren't happy about delivering out of area so late in their shift? was it too far for you to walk there and pick it up yourself? then assume it is also an inconvenience to those who are probably trying to close down for the night. quit complaining that they didn't hide that they were put out by doing what amounted to a favor to you and thank your lucky stars they did it in the first place. also: $15 is pretty much an accepted minimum. basically, what you're saying is that places should bend the rules for you regarding delivery and minimums late in the shift and do so with a friendly smile. not going to happen. welcome to brooklyn.\r \r oh, and the food here is delicious. eat there! you won't regret it. more

wonderful neighborhood place 12/3/2007

in response to last review, i wanted to put in my two cents. i live in the neighborhood and i know northeast kingdom stopped delivery in late october. not sure if this person wrote the review after delivery stopped but the restaurant was definitely not delivering on halloween. Pros: good food Cons: busy all the time more

Yummy but bipolar 10/31/2007

The food was flavorful/addicting, the service however, was not. I was visiting a friend from out of town & had been out ALL DAY & was famished. My friend just moved in & there was no food. She was working & I had no one to direct me around Bushwick. I Google ""Bushwick takeout"", 2 places came up. NOT similar to my previous visit in Williamsburg where I had to close my eyes & pick a place. After picking the only place that was listed I reviewed the menu & it sounded delicious. I gave them a call. I knew it was late & asked if they were still serving even though they closed in an hour. The hostess said--no problem. I went one step further--could you still deliver? Sure. She starts asking for my info. When she realized where I was (which while talking to her I map quested it just to make sure how far since I had no idea where I was in relation) her polite tone changed immediately. She snottily replied, ""Um, that's too far."" When I pointed out to her that map quest stated it was 1 mile & 5 minutes away she STILL said it was too far. Suddenly, tone to polite, ""Wait, let me ask"". She says the delivery guy was cool, he really didn't mind. I felt bad & told her it was fine, there was no need. She assured me it was fine. Tone changed AGAIN & the whole time I gave her my order, would snottily repeat the order back like she didn't understand or couldn't hear me. My total came to about $14 plus change. Snotty came back with, ""Um, we have a $15 minimum."" Because Miss Thang couldn't have told me that before placing the order, I had to add a soda. When our conversation was over she reminded me ONE MORE TIME that, ""Just so you know for next time, IT'S TOO FAR."" So my food finally arrived & after I gave the delivery bike guy a generous tip, he turned around before mounting his bike & sharply stated, "" JUST SO YOU KNOW, THIS IS TOO FAR."" Service was definitely not impressive, but the food was to die for. If you could just ignore the folks behind the curtain, it's a great place. Pros: yummy food, pretty big portions Cons: crappy service, limited deliverability, slightly pricey for takeout more

FUN 10/30/2007

Good food & attentive waiters, especially in Bushwick, what more could you ask for? Brunch could get busy but it's worth the wait. more

Worth a trip to Bushwick 5/6/2007

There is no place I've found in New York City with an atmosphere like Northeast Kingdom- it's very laid-back, dimly lit with decor reminscent of a ski lodge. The service is good, attentive but not overly involved in your meal. The food is consistently delicious- the macaroni and cheese, spinach and roasted eggplant salad and seitan reuben are all excellent. I've also never been disappointed by their daily soups, like hot and sour with cabbage and roasted red pepper chickpea. Their brunch menu is also very good, but it tends to be very hectic for brunch and service can be a bit slow. I highly recommend Northeast Kingdom- it's worth the trip to the outskirts of Bushwick for a great atmosphere, good service and high quality, well prepared food. more

Low-key vibe with good (albeit limited) food selection, but not necessarily worth venturing out of your way 4/21/2007

Since Bushwick isn't exactly filled with dining options, Northeast Kingdom is a reliable standby for a mellow, low-key dinner. However, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone outside the area. The drinks are nothing special and the variety isn't the greatest -- sadly lacking appetizers that don't involve toast. The sandwiches, salads, and desserts are all recommended (try the banana cream pie). My only other complaint is that they aren't open very late, so get there early while the kitchen is open. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to large groups, since it's pretty small and table space can be limited. Pros: Chill atmosphere, good food/desserts, the only one of its kind in the neighborhood. Cons: Not enough variety, could have later hours, waitstaff stand-offish. more

brunch not so good 10/7/2006

i heard great things about this place, so i went to NK for brunch. the service sucked. there was only one waitress working, and i'm not sure she spoke english. she forgot half our order. we all counted exactly six measly hash browns on our plate. do they have to literally count them out like that? for \r a similar price, you can get a much better (if less stylish) brunch at boring life cafe. anyway, i hear that dinner is better.\r \r ***\r \r snacky snackerson here, happy to report that i returned to NK for dinner & it was a welcome improvement. service is still the weak point, but i recommend the food... Oasis in Bushwick 6/29/2006

I was really excited when I heard about this spot, since it's the first restaurant within walking distance of my apartment, and I also completely recommend it for anyone outside of Bushwick as well, this is worth the slightly longer L ride. Cool atmosphere and yummy food, slightly on the comfort food side and delicious. Can't wait to try their brunch out. Pros: Good wine selection more

User review by bluepeep 4/21/2006

Northeast Kingdom has a wonderful feel, it's a warm, cozy and pleasant surprise in this area of Brooklyn. The prices are very reasonable. The food is quite tasty but I was disappointed how luke warm food was. I ordered the chicken pot pie and felt it would have been fantastic if was hot, i felt as though it was just microwaved. The chocolate tart was not flavorful and the texture was strange. The atmospere however was great. Pros: ambiance, price, near subway Cons: luke warm food, chocolate tart more

Cozy and warm. 2/6/2006

What a great place...in the interest of full disclosure I will admit I am a friend of the owners but this a truly a wonderful restaurant. The emphasis on quality ingredients and thoughtful presentation really shines - get the winter salad. The wine list is has some tasty and reasonably priced bottles and do not pass up the dessert selections. My fav is the banana cream pie and chocolate pudding. Take note of the diorama by the bathroom - very cool. Make the trek to Bushwick! Pros: great food, cozy, well priced Cons: far more

Great food, charming atmosphere 1/19/2006

Restaurant to be appreciated by people who live in the area (and have certain artistic and/or gourmet cuisine bend), or by ""adventurous"" gourmands willing to check out a new place that's had favorable NYT reviews, regardless of locale. Nabe is definitely desolate/remote. Got appetizer of crostini/toast with eggplant and type of cheese. Divine!! Then chicken pot pie. Crust was beautiful, flavor of pie awesome. Had unique underlying taste... not sure if lemon or what, but it worked! Only negative was meat wasn't ""perfect"". Felt I had to pick through the meat a bit. For dessert got homemade chocolate pudding with fresh whipped cream. While taste was excellent, pudding had little ""balls"" in it; wondered if it was a chocolate ""tapioca"", or if the balls meant pudding was a little overcooked/not mixed well enough. Either way still good. Service was fine for the type of place it was - quite laid-back. Pros: food, ambiance, outside of Manhattan more

delicious and cozy 1/5/2006

This place is wonderful. I've been a few times and the food is always delicious. The eggplant and butternut squash toasts melt in your mouth. The salads, esp. the winter vegetable salad, is amazing and my friends raved about their chicken pot pie and shortribs. But, what makes it so great is the atmosphere. Everyone seems warm and relaxed but the service is great. The place has real charm. If it wasn't so far out, I'd eat there all the time. But, it's easy if you're on the ""L"" line. Double thumbs up. Pros: ambience, food, inexpensive more
