Best Cane Syrup I've found - period 6/8/2011

I can't speak for the one-star reviewer, except to point out she must have bought her syrup in a bucket, and no telling whether the lid had been loosened or taken. I've been buying Norris Syrup when I can find it on trips to Louisiana for years. I used to swear by Steens, and still use it to cook with in certain recipes, but I find it too molasses-like for my taste on toast, waffles, pancakes and my wife's hot biscuits. I have never had or seen any problem with the syrup at all, so therefore I'm pretty sure it was a shipping -- not manufacture problem. You can occasionally find this excellent syrup (which is different from the Norris regular syrup (I think)) in glass quart jars, but it any form, it's somewhat lighter in color than Steens with a wonderful ""perfect cane syrup"" flavor. Makes EXCELLENT pecan pies, syrup cake and cookes. Grayson's Barbecue in Clarence, LA uses it for all of their sauces and their baking (no sugar), and their food is wonderful, and you can usually buy some from them (if they have any left over), but otherwise, this syrup is hard to find. A few years ago, I have a friend here in East Texas who said 'I had the best cane syrup I ever had in Louisiana, and I want you to bring me some the next time you go.' I just walked over to my cupboard and got him out a bucket and handet it to him, and watched his mouth drop open! more

Flies or Knats in My Syrup 12/27/2008

GROSS - GROSS = GROSS I had not had cane syrup since I was a child growing up in Alabama. I bought this Syrup in Liberty Texas and was so excited. I made some biscuits and poured the syrup to see BLACK OBJECTS in the syrup. Using my finger and removing a couple I found they had wings on them. They are like teetsie flies or knats. DISGUSTING and makes me wonder how and where they bottle their syrup and in what conditions. I threw up.......I think their location needs to be checked by Health Authorities and shut down. \r \r YOU KNOW THAT THE CONDITIONS MUST NOT BE SANITARY IN ORDER FOR THESE FLIES TO GET INTO THE SYRUP AND SOMEBODY DID NOT CARE ABOUT PUBLIC HEALTH OR THEY WOULD HAVE INSPECTED OTHER JARS BEFORE SELLING THEM.\r \r I have purchased other syrup and honey locally but never encountered this type of unhealthy situation. Can you even imagine looking down into your syrup and seeing these black flies? Pros: Cannot tell you any Cons: Flies or knats in their syrup more
