The taste was so bad I couldn't eat my food. Very dissappointed.

Definitely Recommended 8/29/2010

This place is great. I would definitely recommend it. We've only done take-out. There is a little eating area, but would probably recommend take-out. The Tom Yum soup is fantastic. So are the noodle dishes - Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. Everything that we have ordered has been good to great. And they are super fast. more

Best Thai In Town: Unpretentious But Extraordinary. 4/3/2009

Although this family owned and operated restaurant does not seem very attractive from outside, it has amazing food to offer. It is clean, the service is friendly and you can watch your food being prepared. They offer a pretty good green iced tea and are generally doing good on Oriental tea. We have tried various dishes and they were all great, everything fresh and hot. Their Phad Thai is outstanding! If you are looking for authentic Thai cuisine, this is your place to go; forget about the fancy decorated restaurants, the chain stores. Pros: The Food. Cons: None. more

Best Chinese food for miles 11/28/2006

I am from the Dayton area and I drive up to Columbus to eat at Nong's. It's worth the drive! Great vegetarian choices! Pros: All good Cons: none more

Best vegetarian carryout 8/8/2006

This place has an amazing variety of dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. I love the wide selection of tofu dishes, as well as the soup and homemade eggrolls! Pros: tofu, service, variety more

Excellent curries and indulgent host 7/24/2006

Although this restaurant is one that caters to the carry-out Chinese dining set, only the most snobbish sort would fail to enjoy the gentle attention of the host in any setting. But what most of us go to a restaurant for is the food, and if you are a connoisseur of Thai curries or just enjoy the exotic, you will not be disappointed.

For appetizers, we chose Chicken Curry Puff, which was a yellow chicken and potato curry encased in the perfect crispness of puff pastry served with a refreshing salad of cucumbers and ground peanuts in sweet vinegar. Our only complaint was that we finished it too quickly! (You might want to order two if there are more than two of you dining.)

For soup, we ordered Tom Kah Gai, which is chicken in coconut milk with lemon juice and galonga (a fibrous root reminiscent of ginger--nibble for a flavor burst, but don't try to eat it). There were also mushrooms and a few fresh tomato wedges. This soup surpassed any soup I have ever eaten! It is served in a tureen with a ladle, and was plenty for three to share. We saved some for dessert so that the flavor would linger.

For entrees, we ordered Shrimp Phad Thai, which was excellent, and tried two less common dishes. (You can choose from beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, or tofu for any of the curries.) The Chicken Phad Prik King came in an orange-colored spicy sauce with fresh green beans, green peppers, and carrot slices. The Shrimp Gangh Pedt resembled soup with its sauce of coconut milk and spices, and came with bamboo shoots that did not taste like a can (as they usually do in Ohio Chinese restaurants). In spite of the fact that all of these dishes came under the heading of "curries," no two were alike in flavor, and all were delicious.

The proprietor was that rare sort of indulgent, gentle man who delights in taking guests on an exotic journey of taste.

Pros: The proprietor was wonderful, and the Thai curries were varied and delicious. Cons: They could use a decorator, but then they would charge more and the fancy people would take over! more

Great Thai carryout 4/10/2006

we love the curries and the noodle dishes! the restaurant itself is clean and quiet, with a fairly nondescript interior. we always get carryout. more

Passed the Pad Thai Test 4/6/2006

While the seating area is nothing special, we don't mind. This is a great place to pick up something to go, the prices are right, the staff are hard-working, and the food tastes great. There are about 14 or more vegetarian entree options--the tofu is done right, the sauces are described accurately, and the vegetables are brightly colored. YUM! Pros: inexpensive, veg-friendly, parking lot Cons: a bit drab more

LOVE this place 2/15/2006

I have been eating at this little restaurant for years!! I LOVE THEIR THAI FOOD!! The old owner used to cook the dishes for me personally whenever I stopped in. They did sell the restaurant to a family member, in the past year or so. The food, overall, still the same. Staffs are normally family members so communication is hard sometimes. Pros: Inexpensive, Great food more

Yay for the tofu selection 6/29/2004

This restaurant has over 20 tofu dishes and they are all super-yummy. I especially recommend the sesame tofu. Pros: many veggie options, good portions, carryout discount more

Little gem in Grandview 12/6/2002

Best chicken phad thai in town. Unlike many Asian restaurants I've eaten at, Nong's makes their cpt using very good pieces of chicken. You can have it prepared at varying degrees of spiciness from not spicey to xxx-hot. Be prepared; x-hot and above will burn. You have to walk through the kitchen to use a restroom and seating is limited, though I've never had to wait for a table. The cookies are wonderful and the service is fine. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. I've enjoyed eating at Nong's for several years. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: No alcohol, Little more

Nong's (Sister's) Very OK 8/3/2002

We eat at Nong's about three times a month. Once they get to know your Vegan food requiements, you can feel secure in eatting exactly what you have ordered. They will treat Ladies like part of their family. Suggest you be sure that your English is understood.... Food is exactly made to your request and hot is --very hot. Good curd or soy hot dishes with plenty of vegetables and herbs. Fast carry-out for that neighborhood. Good parking. Safe place for Ladies at the end of their work day. Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly Cons: Non-English staff? more

  • The Scene
Ambience is almost too fancy a word; except for a few Thai pictures and paintings on the wall, the decor is pretty spare. ("Express" is in the name for a reason. ) The menu, complete with brightly lit pictures, appears above the counter.

    The Food
The kitchen is open, so customers can watch the cooks chopping vegetables at a furious rate and stir-frying large woks of beef and tofu. The carryout business is brisk, so nothing sits around very long. Pad Thai is spicy, with just the right amount of egg, peanuts and meat; curry dishes contain a pungent mix of lemon grass, shallot, dried chili, shrimp paste and coconut milk. Order kung pao chicken at most places and you'll just get chicken tenders with peanuts--here, it's tossed with water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, celery, bok choy and carrots. "Hot" really is hot, not "American hot," so stick with medium spice unless you're tough.
