Best

We had the gyoza here and it was pretty good. We were surprised at how fresh the fish was too. It was all very great and we will be back for more soon.

Loyal customer 12/12/2011

Such great food , we have been going there for about 10 years. Give them a try if you like Japanese food, you wont be disappointed. more

good food 12/2/2011

We went here looking for something fried but ended up getting chicken katsu curry. They were supposed to have a ramen they were famous for according to some advertisement but it was no frills. all the other food was good. more

Suprising! 11/21/2011

I was invited by a friend to New Zen for a premium sake tasting. Primarily I went to go see a good friend of mine. As far as outward appearance, I was not expecting much given that this place is nestled in a eighties looking plaza. But what a surprise! more

Charming 11/16/2011

New Zen was charmingly decorated. High ceilings with the sushi chef taking up a good chunk of the corner, like a stage. The menu was extensive and they even offer a menu in ""manga""! The sushi offerings were creative and I have a feeling that the Japanese food there is more authentic then most places. The agedeshi tofu and the calamari was delicious. The sushi was fresh and well made. more

Great ,friendly service. its a pretty good hidden gem. more

Great Service 10/13/2011

They offer premium sake tastings, I would suggest checking it out. The Japanese sake and beer distributor comes by and offers generous samples to patrons in hopes to sway the restaurant to place a large order. more

I feel like I am home in Japan 8/31/2008

Every time I step in to this restaurant, smell soooo good, just like I'm home in Japan. Their Daily Lunch Special is variety of food with this little ""So-men"" noodle soup is delicious, and price is $11.00 so cheap for this combination. You must try this! Pros: Friendly Service Cons: Sunday, Monday Close more

Good Sushi But Watch The Prices! 8/16/2007

I ordered the nigiri sushi whose the prices were in-line with many other sushi restaurants in the Seattle area (and I love sushi, so I go to many). And the sushi was very good. Small amount of warm rice, nice cut of very fresh fish - I really enjoyed it. Until I got the bill. The scallop nigiri sushi ($4.50 on the menu) was charged at $7.50 because I asked for it ""creamy"" (chopped with a bit of mayo & spicy sauce). I ask for my scallop nigiri sushi this way in every sushi restaurant and it's normally the same price, although I had one restaurant tack on .50 cents. When I inquired, I was told that all ingredients are carefully measured and charged according to weight. So because the same amount of scallop was used for my nigiri sushi as would be used for the chopped scallop roll, I was charged the roll price. Which is their right I guess, but I wish they would have mentioned it to me first. Although I would rate the sushi average +, I won't go back because their prices are just too high (much higher than places like Umi in Belltown!). more

Just an average good sushi restaurant 11/4/2005

I have eaten here a number of times because it's close to home; when I can, I go to Bellevue for my sushi. Zen is small and not particularly attractive inside and is sometimes cold. The service, however, is warm and friendly. The sashimi and individual raw sushi is very good and usually fresh tasting, however, the the rolls are sparse, meaning they are mostly rice or much smaller than I am used to for the price. I keep on going back, hoping that the rolls will improve, but alas, they continue to be average. Tempura and fried foods are as good as most other Japanese restaurants. more

awesome sushi!! 3/3/2005

my sister and i stumbled across this sushi restaurant last week after driving around for two and a half hours looking for one that was open. being from pa, she had never tried sushi before, so i was excited to find such a wonderful sushi bar. they have an awesome menu, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is great. we got there around 4:30, so we didn't have much of a crowd. we sat at the bar, and the cook was so nice. he saw that my sister was having trouble using her chopsticks, so he used a rubber band and made them spring-loaded for her! then, since he was bored himself, he took the wrapper that the chopsticks were in and made and oragami dog out of it! the prices were awsome, the service was awesome, and even though my sister hated it, the food was awesome. Pros: food, atmosphere, prices more

Wow! 1/31/2003

Zen Japanese Restaurant is outstanding for the service, food, and environment. Following the warm greeting as I entered, everything kept pace with an outstanding evening out. The food was excellent, served by Yumi Miyake, and the pricing was very reasonable in contrast to other Sushi restaurants that serve comperable quality meals. The word seems to be out about what a wonderful experience Zen is, as the restaurant was crowded, yet the wait was not long before I was seated, had a hot towel and some tea and water in front of me while I scanned the menu. I highly recommend Zen to all my close friends for a wonderful evening out enjoying Sushi and the other treats the offer. Pros: Service, Food, Inexpensive Cons: Crowded more
