Knit New York - part coffee shop, part yarn store 7/2/2006

Knit New York could only be in a city like New York--because it's filled with quirky, interesting people who share a common love of knitting. As a new knitter, I've been on the prowl to search out sources for instruction and fabulous yarn and literally stumbled upon this shop on day. It's located right near Union Square (take the N/R/4/5/6 subway). Part cafe, part store, Knit New York offers instruction (private lessons or classes in both knitting and crocheting) in this newly revitalized hobby which seems to be attracting a whole new legion of fans, including lots of young men and women. On the day I visited, there was a small group of Japanese students click clacking away--not sure what they were making but it definitely was a social gathering that seemed like fun. Love shopping for yarn, and this store has a wonderful selection--not cheap, but some fabulous fibers that will have you buying much more than you need or could use. Knit New York has a coffee shop that is open seven days a week (as is the store). I wish this shop were closer to me. www.knitnewyork.com more

A very nice place 12/12/2005

I like Knit NY, a lot really. I'd heard all sorts of mixed things about it but Its my favorite place to sit and knit of the yarn stores. I've found the owner to be sort of cranky and unfriendly on my visits, which sorta bothers me but the rest of the staff is really nice - so maybe she recognizes that customer services isn't her thing The yarn selection is excellent. Mostly upscale but in a range that borders on affordbale at its lower end. The coffee is good They're open late. (9pm most days! thats very cool) They're near my train. Overall I like it quite a bit. more

Great yarn shop, hip atmosphere 8/15/2005

Knit New York is part yarn shop, part coffee shop, which makes an incredible amount of sense. Tucked away on 3rd ave just a few block east of Union Square, the cozy shop has a wonderful atmosphere, a great selection of beautiful yarns at competitive prices, and some great tea and coffee options. They offer classes as well, encouraging a community of young urban knitters. If you knit, don't miss this place! more
