Knit New York could only be in a city like New York--because it's filled with quirky, interesting people who share a common love of knitting. As a new knitter, I've been on the prowl to search out sources for instruction and fabulous yarn and literally stumbled upon this shop on day. It's located right near Union Square (take the N/R/4/5/6 subway).
Part cafe, part store, Knit New York offers instruction (private lessons or classes in both knitting and crocheting) in this newly revitalized hobby which seems to be attracting a whole new legion of fans, including lots of young men and women. On the day I visited, there was a small group of Japanese students click clacking away--not sure what they were making but it definitely was a social gathering that seemed like fun.
Love shopping for yarn, and this store has a wonderful selection--not cheap, but some fabulous fibers that will have you buying much more than you need or could use.
Knit New York has a coffee shop that is open seven days a week (as is the store). I wish this shop were closer to me.
