I took my brother to see this exhibit today. Having seen Chihuly before, in Jerusalem, I was very excited to see more of the work I had seen there.
The ride out to the Bronx is short and easy from Grand Central Station, and the garden is literally right across the street.
Though I did think there were many beautiful pieces - especially the floating ones behind the conservatory - they were spread out so far that they were not done justice. I guess I was spoiled in Jerusalem - all the sculptures were in one area, and everywhere you looked you were surrounded by beautiful things.
At this exhibit, many of the sculptures don't quite blend in with their surroundings, and I didn't feel like the long walk was worth it for some of them. I was really disappointed because I love Chihuly's work. The best was the first area I saw, again, the conservatory, which was just amazing, and pieces sort of jumped out at you as you realized a given flower was actually made of glass, that part was just amazing.
I hear the night shows are coming back soon, depending on price, might be worth the trip if you can just focus on this one area.
