Tired restaurant serving poor food 10/2/2009

My wife and I had heard that this restauarnt had recently remodeled and changed ownership so we thought we would give it a try. What a disappointment! We were a little apprehensive when we realized we were the only ones in the restaurant for a good part of the evening and now I understand why. When looking at the menu and prices, it appeared we were going to enjoy a fine dining experience. The quality that was served left much to be desired however. Both of our steaks came out flavorless and bland. This place is serving very low grade beef and charging Prime beef prices. Nothing about our meal appeared to be fresh as if they ordered too much food and had it sitting in their freezer for a long time. On an up note, our waiter was attentive, but then again, we were his only table. The worst part was worrying about feeling like we were going to be mugged walking through the poorly lit parking lot on Murfreesboro Rd. Don't waste your money! For a nice meal, find somewhere nice downtown or on West End. I can't imagine this place will last. Pros: Leaving to go home Cons: food, area of town more

Great service substandard food 2/20/2009

My wife and I went there for valentines day with high hopes. We like to go somewhere really nice so we decided to go here. When I go there I recognized some of the managment, they used to manage The Stockyard so I was encouraged. My wife and I ordered the crab cakes and onion loaf for appatizers both were excellent. We thought that it was strickly a seafood joint but it is apparently a Steak and (very little) Seafood. I wanted seafood so I ordered ""the fresh catch"" some sort of snapper or grouper. It sounded quite good the reality was the fish tough like it sat too long in the window which is where it sits before it comes to the table to prevent it from getting cold. The bed of rice was dried out again as if it had been in the window too long. My wife ordered the ""surf and turf"" the lobster tail was great (deep fried) but the fillet had next to no flavor. When it came out i looked great but was way under cooked she had ordered Medium but it came out closer rare we sent it back to get cooked up to temp. They garciously cooked her a new steak unfortunately it was a about the same. We sent it back and they got it right this time but it still didn't have any flavor or seasoning. They bought us dessert for our inconveiance but it hardly made up for the $150 we dropped (including a tip). On the bright side the atmospehere and service were outstanding. Pros: Great service nice atmosphere Cons: Low quality food more

At these prices, I'd expect more 2/14/2009

If you're going for atmosphere alone and a high-price, then go, but if going for extraordinary food to match the extraordinary price, then forget it. Everything sits on a bed of potatoes, roasted chicken on sliced potatoes, fish and scallops on square potatoes, steak on garlic potatoes. How many kinds of potatoes are there? If it hadn't been for the bottle of Greg Norman merlot, we'd have gotten up and walked out. After your meal, don't think the dessert course will fix it. There not good at that either. The Death by Chocolate ""decadent"" chocolate cake tastes like overbeaten Duncan Hines with Betty Crocker frosting. The creme brulee (I promise) is nothing more than Jello Vanilla Instant Pudding torched on top. The key lime pie was however somewhat different than what you'd find in the grocery isle, so I'll give them that one. At a price tag of over $250 for three, it just wasn't worth it, in my humble opinon. The waiters are great. They will make you feel pampered. Too bad the food doesn't hold a light to how hard they work to make you feel wonderful. Pros: Ambience Cons: Too pricey for what you get more

Best Steak and Seafood in Nashville 12/31/2008

We recently celebrated my parent?s 50th wedding anniversary at the New Orleans Manor. Everything was wonderful from the moment I first contacted them until they dropped us back off at our hotel. They were very accommodating, even customizing the menu for the occasion and providing a private room. The food was scrumptious and worth every penny. My father exclaimed that the prime rib was the best he has had. This is a great complement since prime rib is his favorite and he has experienced it at many restaurants. My husband, who doesn't normally eat oysters, commented that the Oysters Rockefeller was very good. The Filet Mignon was melt in your mouth tender and the seafood very fresh. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive making sure the evening was special. They even provided a complimentary shuttle service to and from our hotel. The only sad part about the evening was realizing that I would be going back home to Indianapolis the next day and not able to return to the restaurant soon. Rest assured we will make sure to make New Orleans Manor a part of our next trip to Nashville. Pros: Service, Food, Ambience, Friendliness, Accommodating more

Wow! What a difference! 11/17/2008

I had heard through some friends that the restaurant had re-opened and it was completely different, but WOW! First of all, NO MORE BUFFET! Yipee! The food was amazing, the service was friendly and the restaurant has been given a makeover. The last time I was there it looked so dreary and old and now it is absolutely stunning. When we entered on Saturday evening we were blown away by the beautiful Christmas decorations and how fresh everything looked. What a great first impression. My filet was cooked perfectly and my husband said that it was the best grouper that he had ever had. I asked if I could look upstairs and it is just as beautiful as downstairs. There has been a lot of TLC put into this place and it shows. Finally! Definitely recommend and can't wait to go back. Pros: Beautiful surroundings, food, service-our server Darren more

Best Crab legs 11/11/2008

Everything about this places is good, and a variety to boot. We came with a huge group, which they were wonderful. the food is good, try it Pros: crab legs Cons: busy on the weekends more

I like it... 5/26/2008

I like the Manor alot, but I really like crab legs. If you don't like them, then don't go because thats the best part. The other things on the buffet are good, but not as good as the crab legs. I took my parents who live close to the beach and get alot of great seafood, and they LOVED it. It's worth going at least once. Pros: Crab legs Cons: Price more

Absolutely the best seafood buffet!! 2/13/2008

New Orleans Manor is the best place for a seafood buffet. The crab legs are incredible and the oyster rockefeller is fabulous. They also have really good prime rib. The service has been impeccable every time and the owner always comes out to say hi. A great place for a large party too. They have large rooms that can be shut off to the rest of the restaurant. Or you can sit at a table for 2 in front of one of the fireplaces. I would highly recommend this restaurant to locals or visitors from out of town. Hands down one of the best places to eat in Nashville! more

Amazingly lousy.... 1/24/2008

$38.50 for some decent crab legs, and that is it. The rest of the food is mediocre, not very many choices, and ingredients are not fresh. The crab legs were good, but I could have had a really gourmet dinner elsewhere for less money. Do it once in your life anyway, so that you can complain like me! Pros: Beautiful house Cons: Lousy overpriced food... more

Stay away - all the hype is a lie. Visit yourself before you actually eat there. You'll see 9/15/2007

I can't believe they even call this a seafood feast! The ""hostess"" was a bored teenager reading a magazine. I've seen better buffets at a chinese restaurant. Prime rib was overdone and swimming in a vat of water, lobster was so chewy it was not edible, the service was about as good as Subway and even after I commented on the $12.00 lobster I ordered was very tough, all the server said was ""i'll pass that along"". What? She didn't even offer to make it right, make it over, nothing... just like ""tough luck"".. I will NEVER EVER be back and I'm sorry I went in the first place. I could have spent the $100.00 on something really nice. As far as other people saying they were seated right away.... that's because there is NO ONE EATING THERE! It might have been great once, but obviously it is not run by anyone who knows how to cook. Cons: horrible old food, No service more

A Seafood group pleaser 8/6/2007

We take group vacations every year and we have a seafood Friday at every city we attend. This was the most satisfying so far. There was 10 in our party and a few are self proclaimed ""seafood experts"". We were seated right away and then we got busy for what we came for, our farewell to Nashville seafood night. We ate crab legs, frog legs, oysters, very very good orange roughy, seafood salad, seafood chowder, pasta alfredo with huge chunks of chicken, prime rib, bbq ribs, corn on the cob, cheese bread, homemade pecan pie...just a variety of good food and it was GREAT!!!! ...even the tossed salad was very good. The waiters were very nice and I love the fingers bowls they have on your tables. My one complaint is the smoke from the smoking section traveled over into the non - smoking section. Luckily it was near the end of our meal. But, the waiter mentioned that it will be a non smoking environment in August. That's even better. Pros: Parking, Food, Ambience, Service Cons: smoking section, buffet style more

Excellent Experience 7/11/2007

We dined at the Manor a couple of years back for our anniversary. We truley enjoyed everything from the service, atmosphere and the food. I cannot believe anyone would have not given a great review. We are planning on making a Nashville trip this weekend and we will be returning to the New Orleans Manor. Pros: All Good more

Don't waste a DIME on this place!!! 5/8/2007

DEFINITELY 100% TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! We were told they had a delicious buffet and wanted to try it out. The Buffet was horrible! Cold Lasagna, chunky room temperature Seafood Chowder, and a very expensive price for the cheap stuff being served. 2 ppl for dinner, worst $85 I spent in my entire week in Nashville! Take that money & go get a a delicious steak @ Fleming's Steak House on West End Ave., or some yummmmmy bbq at Corky's in Brentwood instead!!! Trust me, don't waste a dime on this place! Pros: Nice Watiers Cons: Horrible Greeters/ Horrible Food! more

Great place for a party 12/11/2006

We came here for our office party this year. Everything was great, the service was good, the food was great, Beautiful Christmas decorations, nice wine list. I can't complain about anything, except it was a little crowded, and we had to wait awhile at the buffet. I will be back soon. Pros: food, parking, ambience Cons: crowd more

Worst Place In Nashville 8/25/2006

Although the oyster Rockerfeller was good, it had a lot of grit as though it was a cheap oyster. You can get better quality at the Aquarium at Opry Mills. They did not not have a large assortment of seafood as you might expect. The crablegs were mediocre at best, I have had better at some of the chinese restaurants in Nashville. As I took a tour of the restaurant by myself, I noticed a man sleeping in the hallway of one of the rooms meant for dining. Now I don't know if this was an employee or what but I wish I had his job. My opinion of this place, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. This place is very dirty and the food just was just awfull!! For the price of 2 people you can eat at Red Lobster and have better quality food and a much nicer atmosphere. Cons: very poor atmosphere more

Romantic Table for two 7/13/2006

Wow, my Fiance' and I went here for my birthday, a few weeks back, and the service and food was great, we tried a little of everything they offered, and everything I tasted was to die for. we sat at a nice table by a window, and our waitress Rachel got us a great chardonay to go with our meal. She was very pleasant and attentive, the best service I have gotten anywhere in a long long time. We will be back soon. Keep up the good work!\r Mary Pros: Great food Cons: buffet was crowded more

Over Rated and Over Priced... 2/24/2006

Have been seeing this place for years so we went there on a special occasion. Well, the price for the buffett was WAY to high for what the buffett is and the service was serve yourself, like any buffett, except for drinks and plates taken away. I would compare this buffett to one you would find at a casino for $11.99, the only difference being that the casino buffett would have a ton more choices. For what you are required to pay, there is simply not enough variety to warrant the price. Do yourself a favor, don't believe the hype and find someplace else in Nashville for seafood. Pros: Parking Cons: Price, Buffett, Not romantic at all more

Unusual Place to find great Ribs 11/6/2005

I dined here with my family this weekend. My Father wanted to come for the Crab Legs, which were out of this world. I however found the Barbecued ribs to be wonderful. They were super tender, and not too spicy, but with a hint of sweetness. It was very unexpected as I came prepared for seafood. They had prime rib too, which looked good but I did not try. Everything on the buffet I tried was excellent. The desserts I was told were homemade, and I wish I had saved more room. My favorite was the Derby Pie. The lighting and ambince was very relaxing, white linen tables candle light. The service was attentive. We had great time. Pros: Parking on site, great setting, FOOD!!! more
