We went for 3 years. My children grades were 98-95. We left NCCA because my honor student’s test scores were horrible. Their curriculum does not prepare kids for standardized tests. This finding is supported by the last 9 paragraphs in a May 21, 2012 New York Times Article entitled "Public Money Finds Back Door to Private Schools,". We had to play catch up at his new school. The good Points.
1. Good Teachers and discipline
2. High expectations
3. Loved they emphasized personal responsibility.
4. Were pretty good at keeping parents up to date on children.
BAD POINTS.
1. Curriculum which was Abekka and Saxon is out of date and inaccurate
2. Science curriculum had looooottttttssss of errors in it. And we are not talking about creationism. Discouraged scientific thought.
3. Language Arts curriculum failed to train students in proofreading and other grammar that was on the Stamford and Terra Nova Tests. Books culturally insensitive
4. Math failed to teach problem solving. Left out many topics that were on the Stamford and Terra Nova Tests.
5. No physical activity. Kids go from 8 till 4. Great for working parents. Bad for kids. The teachers failed to take them outdoors, no place for the children to play.
7. 2 grades in a class made it hard for the teachers to fill the holes in the curriculum.
8. School is to small to allow for social development
9. High school had all 4 grades in one classroom.
10. Administration is difficult to deal with. They can be condescending.
11. School requires parents to attend monthly meetings that achieve nothing. They never have anything new to say.
12. Too much bureaycracy
13. No music instruction. They only had a choir with no musical instruction.
14. There is no art. Maybe occasional Arts and Crafts.
This school is ok for grades k-2, Catholic school is cheaper and better academically.
If your public school district is a suburban one then go there. These schools are far more advanced with their academics.
