Best

Liked that food is served family style. High quality cuts of meat, flavors, and good appetizers. The server was very patient with our kid making a mess.

Great restaraunt at a superb value compared to Fogo De Chao. I have no complaints of this churrascaria at all!!! Prompt seating, great service, super friendly staff , and last but not least the food. For a unique dining experience you should try Nelore. Guaranteed you will come back for more! more

Great food isn't so great if it doesn't make it to your table.... 2/28/2007

I have been a fan of Nelore, but tonight's experience was lacking in service at the table. I actually left hungry because my repeated requests for pork were to no avail. Eventually no one came at all to serve meat despite a green signal. I believe the waiters just could not understand what I was saying though I was really working at it. Why should I, the customer, have to work so hard to be served? When it came to dessert, the "ice cream with raspberries and blackberries" was melded ice cream (literally flowing liquid) with strawberries and blueberries. Despite considerable hunger, I left anyway. It was a slow night for them, and perhaps that is an explanation, but at $107, it was not an excuse. So, while I generally recommend this restaurant highly, it is also true that it can be a disappointment. more

Excellent Alternative to Fogo 2/18/2007

I had a great experience here. Reservations were made for a Friday night & were promptly seated despite having a large party. The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere & the food was excellent. There were no issues with drink service & the waiters were constantly aware of our needs, especially with warm bread. The meat servers were attentive & made rounds frequently. I was fully satisfied with the quality of food & the selection available. The salad bar was also well-stocked. I still hold Fogo to a higher regard overall but I liked this dining environment better. In respect to price, this restaurant is much more reasonable. Pros: Fresh food of high caliber, Attentive staff, Comfortable env't, Relative cost Cons: Salad bar with less selection than well-known competitor, Parking valet only more

It was so so 2/12/2007

Myself and three others dined at Nelore Churrascaria Brazilian Steakhouse this past weekend. I had made reservations a few weeks in advance and called back to verify my reservations. When I arrived the hostess could not find my name on the reservation list. Fortunately we were seated within a short time. The salad bar was great. The meat was so and the service was not very good. It appeared that they were not watching to see if you plate was empty and you needed more meat, but they had a pattern that they followed and you got meat when they arrived at your table, whether you wanted it or not. Drinks were allowed to remain empty and when reorders were made in some cases it required reminding the staff of the order. I would have expected more one on one with the waiters, instead each were serving the entire restaurant and it appeared a little chaotic. I expected a little more considering the cost and the fact that gratuity is included in the bill. more

Not so good for us. 1/28/2007

Decided to try Nelore for our anniversary and left with mixed feelings. The good: It's small and not "typical Houston" in terms of atmosphere. It's also a place to go if you just want to eat until you fall out of your chair. The meat servers were constantly around, so it didn't take long to get refilled. The bad: The meat was average. The bottom sirloin was juicy, but the rest wasn't what it should be at a Churrascaria. Most of the meat was a bit on the dry side and the filet even included some fat (ugh). Likewise, getting attention from a waiter (not meat server) was nearly impossible. It took 30 minutes for the waiter to bring the check and another 15 to return it with my credit card. We weren't the only ones with this problem, as a man accross the restaurant finally shouted accross the restaurant for a waiter to stop by. Pros: Tons of meat. Quick service from meat servers. Good Valet. Cons: Table waiters were slow, most of the meat was on the dry side. more

Great price, great food 1/12/2007

The meat here is great and the price is very reasonable. The wine list is decent and adequate. Wonderful alternative to the overpriced and overrated "other place". The user that spent $300 on 3 people must have tipped about $100; so his fault for lacking math skills. I love Nelore because its location is in the city instead of far west like the "other place". I'll come back here and you should too! Pros: food, location, service, atmosphere, price more

Brazil does it again 11/24/2006

Nobody knows meat like the Brazilians, and Nelore shows you why. This upscale dining restaurant may be expensive, but you forget once you taste those pieces of savory succulent meat. The bar area helps provide drinks to its customers, and gives them something to drink on as they wait to be seated. The "salad bar" definitely downplays the variety of food you can have before you start your meal. Once the meat comes around on those skewers, I found myself saying "one of eat please!" The wait staff is friendly by helping us pick out a wine to making sure we had everything we needed. Come check out this restaurant if you have a chance... and if you have the money to spare (or the craving to not care). Pros: Great salad bar and awesome meats Cons: Pricey... but it is expected from almost any churrascaria more

go here if you're really hungry for meat 11/21/2006

this is a charming small restaurant tucked in the corner of montrose with its cozy ambience adding to the overall dining experience. the food is it's forte, though very pricey. there is an extensive salad bar that can easily pass as the main course with its variety of options that are very fulfilling. the meat is to-die-for ... absolutely wonderful! words can not express just how succulent it was. if you want to know what really expensive, but delicious, food taste like - go here if you're not afraid to drop a lot of cash.* Pros: ambience, meat, overall dining experience, free valet parking Cons: very pricey! more

Amazing!!! 11/20/2006

I took my husband to this restaurant for his birthday. Word on the street is the owner of Fogo de Chao also owns this place. The food is quite similar, but more sensably priced. Also, the interior of Nelore is very intimate - like a dinner party in someone's home. We had reservations, and upon arrival were immediately seated. The server took our drink order and invited us to visit the buffet. The buffet was an artfully presented mix of salad and side options. Once seated, we flipped over our cards to signal we were ready for the servers to stop by with their various meat options. My husband's favorite was the garlic steak, while I preferred the filet. This is a great place to have dinner when you are in a celebratory mood. We can't wait until our family comes to visit, we plan to take them to Nelore! Pros: Just as delicious as Fogo de Chao, with better prices! more

Bring on the meat! 9/19/2006

I'd say this is a more feasable option for me to dine at a Brazilian steak house than the other place given the cost and location. I enjoyed the meat and the rolls, both of which were always hot and brought by very frequently. I would say the staff is pretty great here with the exception that they tend to think that if you've been there for more than 2 hours then you're trying to eat them out of business. I just happen to take my meals slowly!! Also, don't leave your cell phone on the table if you don't want it covered in drippings by the end of the meal (can't be helped, I suppose). Casanova's should also take note that the style of the service means you won't have as much privacy as you would in other restauants. You can expect waiters to come by pretty frequently as long as your coaster is green side up, indicating that you are "accepting" meat. This can take away from the conversation sometimes. I just mention it because this place might not be the best place for first dates or business meetings of new acquaintances. Unless of course you are used to completely ignoring the wait staff. Pros: Great food, free valet parking, wine list Cons: Management takes notice of slow eaters, frequent interruptions more

My friend was disappointed that Nelore is a bit simpler than the other place, since they don't ask you how well done you want your cut to be, or offer to bring items from the buffet to your table. Honestly, this doesn't bother me much at all! I'm more likely to go here since it's less of a production or status symbol, but still a great dining experience with delicious food. Pretty good selection of wine's as well! Pros: Great food, free valet parking, wine list Cons: Management takes notice of slow eaters, frequent interruptions more
