the coaching staff/team ""mom"" for the THOROBREDS are the biggest rip-offs we have ever ever encountered. we, as parents, have raised over $2000 and STILL parents are expected to...

Worst

This place is extremely un organized. They do not answer their phones nor do they return calls within 24 hours like they claim, I know because I have called 20 times during busine...

Editorial review from Citysearch 10/6/2012

RUN AWAY!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!! this is the worse unorganized unsafe league ever, they don't know their a$$ from a hole in the ground. the coaches think because they play fantasy football that they can coach. they don't even know what a football looks like and they are coaching kids!!!! god save us all. I spent $500 for my son to be a damn cheerleader. more

Stay away...poorly ran by some rude people 1/2/2012

Played for several seasons at a locally owned place. NYS came in and bough the facility and everything went downhill. in the next 3 seasons there were 3 changes in the management, each one more clueless than the previous. never were told when the new season was going to start because they didnt know. then they made up a date and said that early registration was already passed and tried to get several teams to pay late fees. then they put off the start of this season for 3 weeks and then cancelled the whole season. (another management change happened) now i am being told that it will take 6-8 weeks to get my money back. when i asked the new person who i could talk to to see if i could get it sooner, he was rude and said ""there was nothing i could say to help anything""..pretty shady and frustrating...playing somewhere else from now on. more

go to the park instead! 10/11/2011

Very poorly run organization. The good news for them is that by the time you realize how bad it is, your oldest child is already onto other things. Great concept, collect the money - do ZERO work and then go count the money. NYS is a bad choice - someone should start something new in the Chandler/Tempe area that actually caters to kids who want to play ""organized"" team sports. more

SCAM-coaching staff/team mom rip off kids and their parents 12/3/2010

the coaching staff/team ""mom"" for the THOROBREDS are the biggest rip-offs we have ever ever encountered. we, as parents, have raised over $2000 and STILL parents are expected to pay for the trophies (along with everything else).. the team money has been sooooo misappropriated, that the poor boys have been drinking hose water during practice... as soon as this season ends, my husband and i are going to DEMAND an investigation into where all of the money has gone AND into the way the coaching staff treats these children!\r \r i am not going to name names, as we have to FEAR that our child will suffer reprucusions, because the coaching staff is that vindictive. more

Unorganized /Nickeled and dimed 9/24/2010

We're off to a very rough start with this organization. The initial parent meeting was disorganized. They originally had it scheduled for a different hotel. Luckily, I find out about the switch, but many parents went to the other location and we're late to the parent meetings. I'm finding out we have to pay for every little thing. ID cards, trophies, uniforms. I was thinking about volunteering to coach, but any volunteer coach needs to pay for their own background investigation. We'll see how the rest of the season goes, but at this point I'm not happy with them. Hopefully the sports are fun, but the paid staff (it is not a volunteer organization) suck. more

Fun in Youth Sports 12/31/2009

My children just experienced their first season with NYS! We are new to Arizona and this was a great way to meet other families! We all had a fun time and my kids are excited to play again! the staff was very welcoming and supportive to our team! I would recommend NYS to anyone! Pros: Great people Cons: nothing more

I enjoy NYS 10/14/2009

My kids really enjoy NYS. We have played numerous seasons and have never had any problems other than basic things that happen everywhere. They provide a good quality service to the community at a great cost. The office is easy to find and is always well staffed. I would recommend going out to any game site on Saturdays and look at all the smiles of the children participating! I have and would recommend NYS to everyone! Pros: Basic and fun! Cons: Office hours more

Run...do not walk as far away from this organization as you 8/11/2009

If your sport / age is cancelled, good luck getting your money back. If you need help with the team, good luck getting anyone to call you back. If you want a refund for pictures, trophies, uniforms etc. Good luck. And if heaven forbid your son/daughter referrees for this organization, they may never see a paycheck. All of this while the owners of the ""Non profit"" travel the globe and bouncing checks to their employees, participants, vendors and others. \r \r YMCA and city leagues are safer and more fun. Cons: Very unscrupulous people here more

Worst League for kids 4/25/2009

My husband has coached Major and Senior tackle football in this league for 6 seasons now. Communication and organization is NOT getting better like another review states. Most of the staff is rude and not very helpful, also as other reviews have stated. Perhaps the other sports have better coordinators, but the guy in charge of Tackle Football has no clue how to run an organization and the coordinators are horrible. You wait forever for returned phone calls or emails, that is if you get one.\r The people running NYS do not seem like the kids are what matters. For tackle football they tell you how important it is that kids are weighed properly before each game for safety reasons. They are quick to tell you that a kid cannot play that week because he is .8oz. over weight, however when it is convenient for them, they throw their own rules out the window. \r We played a game last season where the person in charge of weigh ins was also the coach for the team we were up against. Ironically enough that week the scale did not work so none of the kids were weighed. Doesnt seem right that a coach would also be in charge of what the organization states is ""so critical"" so they do not get sued. We have played several games where weigh in procedures have not been followed. Last week the guy doing weigh ins didnt even check the roster. In Senior League you are playing against established H.S. football teams sometimes. When you have H.S. teams up against teams who have not necessarilly been in tact for more than the three weeks they give you to practice before the first game, it doesnt seem right that rosters are not checked to make sure that kids are of age and weigh less than the limit. Seems they dont practice what they preach\r Oh, and the refs......dont even get me started. Some are good dont get me wrong, but more of them are rude and half dont know or just dont follow the rules of football. One ref even told one of our players not to worry if the other team was holding because our team sucked anyway. They allow dirty play from teams that obviously coach their kids to be dirty and that is really sad for those coaches who are trying to teach the kids right. \r I could go on and on about our experiences but the bottom line is we are done with this league. We gave them the benefit of the doubt for way too long. Find another league for football if you want your kid to be safe.\r \r Pros: frustrstion Cons: more frustration more

Excellence Customer Service 11/5/2008

This was our first experience with National Youth Sports. The staff for the Chandler league was very helpful with all of our concerns. Our children are having a great time and making new firends. After all that's what it is all about! So if you are looking for a fun, safe, recreational league I would recommend National Youth Sports! more

Not enough for the money 10/23/2008

I signed my daughter up for Softball this season because she loves the sport. When we signed up it was a $70.00 registration fee which included the jersey.. which was great. Then we go to the parent meeting and see that we have to pay for the names on the jersey, pants, and socks. Well there is another $21.00, fine you dont want your daughter to be the only one that does not match. We go to pick up the equipment for the girls, yeah sorry they tell us we ran out. Well what do we do now? We have to go get the equipment so the girls have something to use because you can not play without batting helmets and catcher's gear. It is a great learning environment for the girls, but with only 8 games in the season, they dont have much time for it to sink in. Not worth all the money that you have to sink into it. We are definately going to a new league. Pros: Great Learning environment Cons: Not worth what you pay for. more

Confidence booster 9/9/2008

I have children who are a little shy. I have seen a huge improvement in them. I contribute this to their love of sports. We have been very fortunate all of the parent coaches my children have played for realy care about hte kids. Wehave been a part of the NYS family for several years now. Sometimes good. Sometimes not so good. It is obvious they are constantly working to make things better. The new website is GREAT! They are even offereing Girl's Volleyball starting in Jan!!!! We can not wait. Pros: Friendly Staff more

NEED VOLLEYBALL 8/21/2008

My daughter has played every NYS Sport except for tackle football. She really wants to play volley ball. I am disappointed NYS does not offer volleyball in our area. We enjoy the league..we have made many new life long friends through NYS sports. Our questions have always been answered. Of course during busy times it has taken 24 hours to receive a return phone call. I have found emails are much faster!!! We will continue to play softball and basketball unitl she starts junior high. I would recommend NYS to every parent who is looking for a fun recreational league especially if the parents want to be INOLVED in their childs extracurricular activities!! more

fun recreational league! 8/21/2008

My child has played with NYS for the past 3 years and we have always had an excellent experience. Going into the league knowing that NYS is all parent volunteers helps out ahead of time and I think it's great that parents can be involved! It's not a babysitting service, so if you are looking for that I'd go elsewhere. The staff is great and the office can get a little hectic but when I do get to talk to someone they have always been polite and tried to help when possible. Each season they are getting more and more organized it seems! Only other problems I have encountered have been the occasional rude parent and people not willing to help out the team with coaching. Pros: non-competitive, fun, helpful staff Cons: need more phone lines more

good times 8/14/2008

I have been a coach and parent in the NYS organization for years. I coach 3 seasons a year of soccer for my daughter, and my son plays flag football as well. The office staff has always been helpful and try their best to accomodate me. Coaches are all volunteer....so it is not a league for you if you are one of those parents who want to drop off your child at practice. Besides the occasion wet soccer fields, or long lines for uniform pick up....I have had a wonderful experiance with NYS and plan to continue playing and coaching in the next couple of years. Pros: helpful staff, conveniant location, Cons: hours are 9-5..hard if you have bankers hours like me more

Year Round Sports- AWESOME league 8/14/2008

My children have played almost every sport you can think of...the NYS staff has always been very helpful. I like the fact all coaches are parents volunteer. On several occasion we have seen office personel at the games, checking to see if everything is running smoothly. I would highly recommend NYS to anyone looking for a fun and safe place for your child to participate in recreational sports. Pros: friendly staff more

Fun friendly recreation league! 8/14/2008

I have been a looooooong time volunteer coach with this organization! They have done a geat job considering how many kids play youth sports! The staff has been very helpful through the years and the coordinators have even come to help at practice for our team! They consistently go above and beyond what I have come to expect from a youth sports organization! I have personally coached in the YMCA, Boys & Girls club, and a few city recreation leagues, but this is by far the best value! They even run their leagues all year round! Great league, friendly people! I would definately recommend this league to anyone! Pros: Year round sports and fun for the kids! Cons: None to speak of! more

Never Again!! 6/2/2008

I have never in my life dealt with an organization that has been so completely incompetent in my life. You would think that this organization was run by the government. I have been a team mom for 2 years now, handling schedules, fields, uniforms etc and without fail, every time I had to be in contact with an NYS employee they have been nothing but rude and completely unhelpful. I can deal with people not having answers some of the time but when it's accompanyied by an attitude that stinks so bad it would scare away a skunk, no thank you I say. Perhaps NYS employees should abide by the same code of conduct that they have the players abide by:\r I WILL DISPLAY GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AHEAD OF MY OWN PERSONAL DESIRE TO WIN.\r I WILL DEMONSTRATE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP REGARDLESS OF THE SCORE BY ACTING INA POSITIVE MANNER TOWARDS ALL PLAYERS, OFFICIALS, PARENTS AND COACHES\r I WILL SHOW RESPECT TO ALL GAME OFFICIALS, COACHES, PLAYERS AND PARENTS AND NEVER ACT IN A MANNER THAT WOULD BE DISRESPECTFUL TOWARDS THEM.\r \r I UNDERSTAND THAT I WILL BE SUSPENDED FROM THE LEAGUE FOR VIOLATION OF THIS PLAYER'S CODE OF CONDUCT.\r \r Perhaps if NYS employees were held to the same standard, the world would be a better place. Cons: Nasty people more

HOrrible Organization - DO not waste your money. 6/2/2008

I had my son in NYS for three season of football. In that time, I encountered rude staff over and over again, they messed up our uniforms each time and there was no communication when a game was rained out or moved to a different field. In order to pick up uniforms, you have to stand outside of their offices in a line that wraps around their building - I stood there for over an hour every time. \r \r I did try to give them the benefit of the doubt, after all they deal with tons of families and kids so things must get hectic. But after three seasons of the same horrbble service, I will never put my son in NYS again. They are unprofessional and their staff is extremely rude. Cons: Customer Service, Communication more
