love my Narita 10/7/2009

Narita's been around for as long as I can remember, and we are talking about 25 plus years. I loved the chicken teriyaki when I was a teenager, my family's night out would consist of going to Narita and then a movie afterward. One thing that I really missed when I was away in college was Narita's food, when my parents came for the visits, they would bring me food from Narita to make me feel less homesick. Years gone by, I am now married with 2 young children(2 and 5), and yes, they have my genes. My kids love the teriyaki, the yaki-soba, the gyoza and the kappa maki. My wife loves the maguro and hamachi sashimi and my favorites are the ankimo appetizer, miso-Chilean seabass, torched toro sashimi and their chocolate lava cake (we had to order 3 since no one wants to share.) Narita is a great family restaurant, friendly staff, consistency in food quality and a true gem in Forest Hills. Pros: Best Japanese In Queens Cons: PARKING!!!! more

Sushi restaurant - Good & Affordable 11/12/2008

I have been going to Narita for the past 5 years. This is ONE of the BEST sushi restaurants in Forest Hills.\r The fish is ALWAYS FRESH and the service is always friendly. Some of their specialty rolls are EXCELLENT and creative. Normally when going out for Japanese I order Japanese beer or sake, however there are a few specialty cocktails on the menu that I had overlooked until recently...strong and worth the price. If you are looking for good sushi at a reasonable price this is the place to go. more

Nice place to EAT ONLY!!! 11/12/2008

Everything was just GOOD. Just one thing to work on(RACE). Usually asians go to asian restaurants to eat too. Don't treat us any different from the others(AMERICANS). The chefs make it very uncomfortable for us the customers. If the CHEFS just performed like usual , we would have no problem. Chef's don't talk as much because we are ""ASIAN"". I don't think that's fair. The FOOD and waitstaff service is GOOD.. Not great , but GOOD. Pros: A place to EAT good food Cons: Chefs service should certainly be better towards same or other RACE. more

Great Service, Great Food 7/10/2006

This place is absolutely STELLAR! I love love loveee the fried rice. It's to DIE for. I think the only thing that should be changed is the lighting... it's a bit too dark in the daytijme. But I guess it's good for romantic dinners, despite what other people say. The staff is very polite and they often arrive and check on you. When they are really busy they might be a bit forgetful and neglectful, but the food is absolutely perfect. I'm a Japanese transfer student, and trust me. I KNOW good Japanese food. So try this place out. The prices are reasonable too for a poor college student like me! Arigato gozaimasu!!! ^_^ Pros: GREAT GREAT GREAT food! especially fried rice Cons: daytime's too dark inside more

service not prompt, food took forever 6/21/2006

when we first walked it, a fight broke out between this mother and other gentlemen. the fight was not quite manged properly by the restaurant, the manager should've taken care of itt in a more professional manner but it took them a long time to finally calm both parties down. \r \r we sat down right in the middle of the fight, almost getting struck by the mother, ordered our drink and soup and at the same time ordered 4 6-piece rolls after waiting for about 15 mnutes for a waiter to serve us. we got our soup and drink about 10 minutes later and about 1/2 hour asking the waiter what's taking our food so long. we literally waited for over 45 minutes to finally getting our sushi which was pretty simple rolls. the waiter was not honest wtih us in the timing of our food when in fact it after saying it'll be ready in 5-10 minutes, it actually took almost 25 minutes. we walked in at 8:30pm and left there a little bit after 10pm. for a simple 4 rolls and a miso soup shouldn't take over an hour to be served. the food was definitely not worth waiting that whole hour. although we were compensated by the waiter with small beer, the wait was still not worth it. if i was to do it again, i would've gone to the place on austin street. more

ok food but noisy 1/14/2006

We made reservations but were not able to get a table for the time we wanted -- we were seated at the sushi bar instead. The service was a bit slow at times. The food was decent and the portion sizes were good. The dining room seemed more like a Benihana's -- loud and festive, as opposed to the calm of a true Japanese sushi restaurant. The bento boxes were tasty and seemed to be a good deal. Pros: good sized portions Cons: crowded, noisy more

Mmmmmmm Tuna! 10/1/2005

Okay, so the restaurant itself is nothing to look at, but the sushi is so superb that one just has to say ""who cares?"" Get the maguro and hamachi sushi plate (tuna and yellowtail). It is so tasty and well priced. The non-raw dishes are pretty good too, but the sushi is sublime- so fresh and perfectly prepared- this place knows its fish!!! Pros: the food, price Cons: parking, ambiance more

Not impressed 8/6/2005

All previous reviews of this restaurant were stellar. Did we all go to the same restaurant? Went on a Saturday evening. It took the waitress over 10 minutes to come take our order. The sake menu contained 6+ selections, but they were all out except for 2, coincedentally, the 2 available were the cheapest one and the most expensive one. The teppanyaki show interesting the 1st time during the night, but the exact routine the 2x during dinner was 'tired'. Cons: service more

a great find! 6/23/2005

I went to Narita a few weeks ago after my sister raved about the food. We ordered the steak teriyaki and she was right, it was delicious! Their fried rice are also out of this world. The place looks really cute as well. The only down side is that our waitress ignored us the whole time. We felt like we had to go out of our way just to get her attention, even though it wasnt a very busy night. But nonetheless, I will definitely come back and can't wait to try their other menu. Pros: great food Cons: bad service more

My new sushi heaven 4/21/2005

Moved to FH about 2 months ago, tried couple Sushi places in the area and was not impressed till I found Narita. Great portion and very reasonable price. The restaurant is clean and beatiful, the waitstaff is very friendly and helpful. I love the sake selection. Try a cup of chilled Kurasawa with your sushi. Also, the hibachi fried rice is out of this world. Banzai Narita !!!! Pros: FRESH, PORTION, PRICE Cons: WAIT more

Never Disappointed 4/16/2005

This elegant restaurant excels at sushi and sashimi ... treat to combine good Japanese food with first-rate sake choices. Never a bad experience in Narita, for over 20 years that I have dined there. Great appetizers and sushi choices, the wait staffs are friendly once you become a regular. Since this place is always pack, I strongly recommend reservation on weekend. Pros: fresh fresh fish Cons: parking more

if you like long waits.. 2/10/2005

came here for a bday party, spent 10 minutes waiting for the menu until i was forced to wave a waiter down.. when the food finally came, the portions were sufficient and sushi was fresh.. only thing was, that it wasnt a busy night! next time ill order my food in advance! Pros: Fresh Fish, Portions Cons: Service, Staff more

Narita Japanese 5/12/2004

went to Narita last night for my gf's birthday, and we had habtchi. Spend $100, which is not bad consider what we ordered. We both had habtchi, a bottle of plum wine, and 3 appetizer, the food was great, and I really didnt find the wait to be that long like some the other review said. But the appetizer is a litlle pricey, especialy $6 for 3 pieces sushi, but iutside that it was a great experience, food was great, and not too costly over all.. Pros: Great Food, Decent Pricing more

Outanding! 10/13/2003

I have been dining at Narita for 6 years and have thoroughly enjoyed every meal. The sushi is always fresh and tasty. The wait staff is friendly and helpful and kudos to the sushi chef Hero who serves up great dishes on and off the menu and is always wearing a smile. The prices are very reasonable and youll agree that is money well spent. A superb experience. more

great great sushi 12/15/2002

I'm new to forest hills and I discovered Narita one day shopping at Loft on austin street. This restaurant by far offered the best value for your money. The place is clean and neat, the servers are friendly but a bit slow. The sushi are GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!! Try their amazing roll and broken heart roll and apple martini(so far it out beat city restaurants and bars.) Dont bother with other restaurants in forest hills(they all Queens quality/style), but Narita makes me happy to live in forest hills. Pros: great food, best apple martini, friendly people Cons: parking more

Its in Queens?? 10/2/2002

Narita is by far, one of the better Japanese restaurants I've been to in NY. The prices are great and the ingredients are the freshest. Their sushi selection is quite large and very interesting as well as their drinks. Try a Sakura when you go. more

Not bad! 9/29/2002

Friends who live in F.H. took us here for dinner on Sat. night and we were pleasantly surprised. The avocado is the sushi was perfectly ripe and creamy and the Tokyo Colado was a fun fruity concoction. The fried hibatchi rice was great. Other than making the grill flame at the beginning our hibatchi chef didnt put on much of a show - no flipping stuff into is hat or our plates - so if that is your thing go to Benihani. The veggies were fresh and well seasoned and the shrimp was outstanding. more

You should try 9/16/2002

Many of Japanese Restrants in Manhattan are overpriced. However, Narita's sushi is very reasonable. The Fish, we Japanese calls it ""NETA"" are from same market as some very famous resautrants in NY, but price is much more resonable, per sushi shef, which we agree. If you spend $25 per person at so-unreal sushi bar or spend $60 per person on somewhat real sushi restaurant in manhattan, just visit Narita and spend $40 and eat very nice NETA, unless you go so authentic to have money to spend $150 per person hahaha. more
