Delicious!!!! 9/16/2010

I absolutely love Nagasaki Inn! It has a very cool retro '70s feel. Although its an older building it still is very kept up and clean. They have some of the freshest sushi I have ever eaten (and I eat tons of Japanese)! Their fried rice is also amazing. I recommend it to anyone looking for a great date or party place. more

Great Japanese food 7/4/2010

I have to differ with the person who gave this restaurant a ""so-so"" review. First, a little history. This place opened as a George Lindsey's steakhouse in the late 60s. My family started eating there when it opened as Sachi Steakhouse in the early 70s. Here it is in the 2000s and this is my family's favorite place to eat, especially for special occasions. Their fried rice is absolutely the BEST. We have been to Japanese restaurants from Los Angeles to Boston and have not had a better meal than here. No other Japanese restaurant we have been to has the salad dressing that they serve here. I have dreamed about it. We have overheard visitors from Japan say that this is the most authentic Japanese food they have had in the States. We order our steaks medium-rare and they have always turned out great. That's because the chef has you try your individual steak before he serves it to make sure it is the way you like it. Candy has been there for almost as long as we have eaten there and I remember when Harold first started working there. I love my Nagasaki Steak House! Pros: Friendly staff, excellent food Cons: Decor needs updating more

A Great Family Experience! 6/25/2009

I went to the Nagasaki with my family as a kid, now I take my family there. It is one of the few places we can all agree to. The place is great for a date ,too. I have to echo the others that say MAKE RESERVATIONS! You may still wait a few minutes, but the wait is worth it. We pay about $50 when we are a couple, $150 as a family (incl bar drinks and tip) Pros: Entertaining chefs cook in front of you. Cons: May have to sit with some strangers. more

So-so. 5/12/2008

The food and service was average or a little below average. If all the people that have wrote reviews here think this is a five star restaurant then they need to take a trip to Kabuki Japanese House of Steak in Cary, NC and they will find Japanese food heaven. I probably will go back again if my yearning for Japanese food gets too great in between trips to see my grandchildren in Augusta, GA., but I will not be making weekly trips to a Japanese Steakhouse like I did when I lived in Cary, NC. Pros: Japanese, rice. Cons: Undercooked vegetables, overcooked steak, bean sprouts, no chef's special. more

The best Japanese Steak House in Memphis 4/22/2008

We've done 'em all, Shogun, Benihana (now gone, burned down), Kobe, etc ... and we still keep coming back to Nagasaki for the best tasting Japanese steak house in Memphis. This place is an institution (been at their location on Summer Ave over 25 years which is why they are located in a part of Memphis that alot of folks may not traffic regularly these days). Don't let looks deceive you (the grill hoods have ALWAYS needed a good cleaning ... the food is the best. Gotta get the fried rice! Usual entertaining chefs (turn the fileted shrimp into 'Japanese bunny rabbit') and yes, they do the flaming grill trick (sake as 'Japanese gasoline'). \r \r But it all comes down to the food. Which is great. \r \r Be sure to get a coupon out of the Friday paper (or show a FedEx badge, or get a coupon out of any of the Memphis coupon books) to make the $18 entree price more digestable.\r \r Pros: Flavorful Food; great Japanese steak-house schtick Cons: It's been on one building for over 25 years, it looks old ... it IS old. Must make reservations! more

love it love it love it 10/16/2007

well I love this place with a passion!!! I could eat there for every meal. The service it great, and you can usually get same day reservations! I RECOMMEND RESERVATIONS! I love the staff, harold is the best cook ever! He is so funny. But they are all great! I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone who loves adventure with their meal! Pros: buy one get one free coupons in the friday paper in the playbook Cons: absolutely none more

A Fantastic Dinner 12/5/2005

Nagasaki Inn is the restaurant where you can step inside and feel the warmth like you have in a cozy house. The service is great, with all waiters and chefs being as friendly as they can be. Everyone there is like a big family. They all know each other. Customers seem to know the bosses and chefs. Kids running around, sometimes even play with waiters when they are not too busy. The food is fantastically great. There is even a game machine for kids or even adults to keep occupied. People can even sit at a bar and have a drink while waiting to be seated. All in all, Nagasaki is one of the best and most friendly restaurants I have visited. more

Fun Time 8/11/2002

For as many years as this restaurant has been in Memphis, you can always count on them. The people are so friendly and they don't trick you into buying something that you don't want. The Chefs are great with children and the whole family has an enjoyable evening. more
