Editorial review from Citysearch 12/14/2012

Please do not be mistaken by all these positive reviews. They are either made up or exaggerated. I have been to this Naan & Curry restaurant here in Renton, and as a mix indian, I can honestly say, it is no where near, AUTHENTIC!! more

Review Alert !! - Especially for Indian patrons 3/28/2012

- as comparison made with Indian restaurants!! Travel frequently and have visited Indian restaurants coast-to-coast. Wish I could give this negative stars, but 1 it will be :( -Pricey menu: Paneer Tikka Masala, 2 Garlic Naans and Mango Lassi which is standard meal for one came to $30 with 10% tip! -Not authentic in taste at all, as claimed - Cant even begin to imagine where the ""fresh spices"" and ""ingredients"" are bought from, at least my platter was devoid of any. -Slow service and overbearing owner/manager - Though order was taken quickly and served (the saving grace of the place), took forever to clean up and take order for dessert. Finally, decided to personally walk up to the cashier to pay and leave! Of course, the owner/manager saw nothing wrong in this ;-) Bad enough for me to type a review - hope others can avoid this mistake. more

Too pricey for poor service and stingy portions 3/16/2011

I was very disappointed with the overpriced food, stingy portions, and poor service. I came here with my husband on a Wednesday evening at 5:30 when the restaurant wasn't busy. Our food was okay at best. I ordered the chicken tikka masala; the flavor was bland and the chicken scanty. The rice was not included in the price of the meal; it was almost $4 extra and not enough to serve two. The staff was lackadaisical and unfriendly. We waited an inordinate amount of time for our check, then no one came back to pick up our credit card to perform the transaction. When we finally got the attention of the waitress again, she pointed to another woman and said, ""she'll come and get it in a minute"". Not acceptable. Not going back. Waste of $40 I should have spent elsewhere. more

Obnoxious owner and unwelcoming customer service 10/23/2010

I was a regular at Naan N Curry, the staff had my order MEMORIZED and they knew me by NAME. The owner was always nice and gracious. I brought several friends to this restaurant and all had a great experiences! On the second to last visit I brought a good friend and when the food came one dish was unexpectedly ordered. When I asked what it was the owner came over and smirked telling me that it was what I ordered. Never having this dish and not even knowing how to pronounce the name, I told him I did not order this and that I wanted the channa masala that I order every time! After trying to convince me that was what I ordered he told the waitress, "" Go get her what she wants!"" very rudely and continued trying to convince me that it was my fault! He gave us very nasty looks and we e ignored the rest of our meal.we were alittle hurt after that experience but decided to give them another try thinking maybe he was having a bad day or maybe it was just me. The second time we came, we thought service was better until they ignored us again acting as if they had know idea we were there! They served and welcomed everyone else even when they left us for 30 MINUTES! we were trying to make eye contact and wave someone down and they passed us and served the man sitting behind us never returning to our table. Finally someone asked us if we wanted boxes, not how our food was or if we enjoyed it. Then we sat another 15 MINUTES until we decided to go up front and pay for our food with out our check. The owner and staff used to treat me very well with the utmost respect and I was excited to bring friends there. Now I am sad to say that I will not be going back. more

Truly Impressive Pakistani / Northern Indian Food 9/30/2010

Wow... seriously: This has GOT to be the best Pakistani and North Indian food in the area. It certainly goes directly to the head of MY list. The restaurant was recommended to me by a work colleague. I was soooo glad for the recommendation! I had been searching for YEARS for a restaurant in the area with an authentic Northern Indian or Pakistani taste... but nothing seemed that good to me. Decent? Sure.... but really GOOD? Never. Until I found THIS place, which is just outstanding. I had the Chicken Karahi and the Lamb Biryani. The Karahi had gorgeously ripe tomato pieces, and that sauce! WONDERFUL. I've never been a big fan of Biryanis... I always found them sort of boring. But the Lamb Biryani was recommended, and it was truly excellent. The lamb wasn't over cooked and was extremely tasty. The sauce on the rice was exeptional. The naan was also tender and delicious. The dining room has pleasantly loud buzz, with folks having a good time. The service was friendly and prompt. I'll definitely be back... HIGHLY recommended. more

I want to go to Renton 7/27/2010

This place is indeed a gem. Pros: Food, graciousness Cons: not close to home more

Great Food AND OWNER 12/10/2009

I can't understand complaints about the owner when my family and I have eaten there many times and have had a great time with the owner, and everyone else. My daughter has been to India so that probably makes a difference, but he is still friendly to everyone I could see. Food is fantastic as well. My wife and daughter have both been to India, daughter three times, and this is their favorite ""authentic"" establishment. We have a great time every time we eat there! Pros: Food Cons: too far from where I live :) more

Worst experience 10/10/2009

We used to visit this restauratn from the days when previous owner owned it and when the new owner took over the food quality greatly improved but during last couple of visit we realized that food is not up to par and the owner has become very rude proably due to stress of running the restaurant. He is pushy ans when you do not buy the stuff he offers you he smirkls and make fun of you. Pros: Not sure Cons: Owner more

decent food, irritating owner 10/8/2009

I used to frequent this restaurant a lot but lately have been let down, in particular by the attitude of the owner. The website claims 2 people can eat under $20, that is so not true. The worst thing is the owner tries to smooth talk and sell you unlisted items (so called specials) that are priced above the menu items. Besides that he tries to be funny and unnecessarily friendly. On a recent visit a coworker complained that the veggie dish was stale and the restaurant staff acknowledged it. The owner's son came back with a fresh dish and apologized. However the (elderly) owner after a while showed up and tried to engage in a coverup. He blamed overripe tomatoes and claimed that everyone else in the restaurant was having the same dish and no one else complained. Seriously, how many people eat vegetarian at Naan-nCurry. So it was basically just my coworker that had a problem is what he was saying. All this after his staff had acknowledged that the vegetables were stale. In any other restaurant I would expect them to compensate by offering a sweet dish or apology at a minimum. Won't be returning to this place anytime soon. Pros: good food Cons: pricey, owner's attitude more

NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY RESTAURANT 9/6/2009

Food is ok. But DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN HERE. The owner has very little tolerance for kids, and repeatedly lies about ""customers complaining about the noise"". This is by no means a family friendly establishment. Even if very well-behaved kids make any noise (as kids do), they will be quickly lied to by the owner and asked to keep their kids in line. UNREAL! Pros: Not Much - Food is average, at best Cons: Owner has no tolerance for children more

Amazing Food 4/6/2009

Friday night walked in a packed Naan N Curry for the first time. Almost left due to long wait. The owner's continuous update on the tables and taking our order before the table ready convinced us to stay. To our amaze within 15 seconds of our seating our appetizer (Fish Tandoori) was on our table. Pros: Most Authentic Food Cons: Place packed 45 minutes for table more

Good Food, Bad Owner 2/9/2009

I went to Naan and Curry with my husband and sister a few months ago for the first time. The place has an OK ambience, nothing great but the food is good. Better than any restaurant on the eastside for sure. We ordered korma, briyani and daal. However, the owner is too annoying and makes the eating experience very uncomfortable. He comes to take the order, talks too much, tries to be over friendly and is almost ill mannered. He always tries to up sell , suggesting the most expensive items on his menu ( i have been there several times after that) and really, the owner is too irritating. He comes back to ask about the food too many times, and refuses to leave. He does not know where to stop being hospitable and tries to sell all the time. It is better to take out rather than sit and listen to his non stop nonsense. more

if you like indian, this is the best around! 9/19/2008

This place has never let me down, and the owners are there to make sure that you are enjoying your food. Kinda pricy, but well worth it. I always end up having a table full of dishes; fresh rice, naan is soft, and everything tastes like it is made to order. Tandoori is superb, not overcooked. And if I go alone, they seat me facing the tv that they show Bollywood movies on. Go there! Pros: fresh, tasty, authentic indian Cons: a little pricy, decor could use some updating more

Worst indian/paki restaurant in seattle area 8/16/2008

This is the MOST PATHETIC restaurant in Seattle area. I am telling this based on my personal experience. In the last 2 visits of mine in last one month, I had 2 real bad experiences. Today, I found an IRON PIECE in the ""dal special"" I ordered. I couldn't show it to the owner as I ordered a ""To Go"" today. A few days back, I visited the restaurant with my friends and one of my friends found a 'B*G' in his order. We showed it to the owner and first he said its not a B*G. Its just some 'masala'. But then he agreed and replaced the ordered food. The staff there is also NOT cool. They (including the owner) try to be too friendly with the customers and in doing so, too often cross the line. Once I was there with my friends and one of us didn't received the food on time. When he asked the waiter twice about what is the delay, the waiter brought the food but just kept on roaming around the restaurant shouting for my friends name. The waiter was pretending as if he didn't know where my friend is sitting. It was really irritating. I sincerely hope after reading this, you guys never pick this place for food. Cons: Not clean, people who work there including owner more

BEST IN SEATTLE!!! 8/14/2008

What a great find! After doing exhausting research on the best Indian/Pakistani food around, I stumbled at Naan N Curry. I read about them online a few months ago, and saw that many people enjoyed it although there were some negative points as well. But despite those and my past awful experiences, I decided to give it a shot and now I am hooked! Parking was a bit difficult but did not take too long. As we are approaching the restaurant I could smell tandoori chicken! It only made me want to walk faster. We (a group of 6 adults) arrived close to when they close but could still here the awesome bollywood music before we walked in. It was quite busy and we were seated after about 15 mins or so, and boy was it worth the wait! The person who took our order was helpful in choosing dishes to my friends who were a little on the pickier side. Everything was so great! I ordered the Chicken tikka masala, beef kababs, and my favorite, the garlic naan! It was cooked to perfection and I did not talk the entire time because I was so busy stuffing everything in my mouth! If anything was unappealing about the restaurant it could have been the decor, but once you have the food, none of that matters! For all you that havent been there, GO GO GO GO! A plus to this place is that my Indian co-workers say that this is extremely close if not the same taste as they have back home! Pros: food was awesome, friendly service, a true experience! Cons: parking! more

The owners need to go back to how they used make the food and how they used to treat customers 7/3/2008

This place used to be my favorite Indian restaurant! I first discovered Naan-N-Curry two years ago. I have brought many friends to this place. I would drive 30 minutes to have some saffron rice and chicken tikka masala. In short, the food was amazing and I was hooked. Pros: None. It used to have a lot of pros... Cons: It no longer has good service or food more

Terrible Indian Cuisine 6/10/2008

The owner was very friendly and chatty but too bad the food was really lacking in standard. We ordered the Lamb and Okra dish and there was hardly any meat or okra in the dish. Instead about 80% fried french onions.... it strangely was reminiscent of the ones we buy in a can...... Seriously, don't waste your $$. Pros: Nice enough service Cons: Too much to pay for terrible food more

great food, nice service, lunch specials a bit small 4/29/2008

great food. dont order the special drinks, not very good. prices reasonable but the portions for the lunch specials are quite small. if you're hungry u might want to order 2 lunch specials. friendly service. more

Best tasting food in seattle metro 4/4/2008

It is a very good restaurant as far as the taste goes. People are friendly too and not bad service. more

Close to india in taste 2/20/2008

This is the first time i am writting a review for any restuarant. My husband and I were quite unhappy with the kind of Indian food we get here in Seattle. We almost always made a compromise when we went to any Indian restuarant till we visited a restuarant in Bellevue and this one. And this pushed me to write what i felt. The food here is very authentic and tasty. They do customise per your choice and i would definitely recommend this to my friends. Go for it. Pros: Taste, quality Cons: Quantity more
