My Big Fat Greek Restaurant

We had eaten there many times before, with great results, but..... On a recent visit the lamb chops were sold out, so I ordered an alternative, no problem. Then, having been told that the food was almost ready we were told that they ""were out of potatoes, & were making more, but they would be another 45 minutes. Would you like something else instead?"" We made our choices, & the waitress checked the menu & said ""that's OK, they are all the same price, so no extra charge!"" My wife loves the potatoes, so asked to have hers to go when they were ready. When the food did arrive it was very disappointing, lukewarm & not very appetizing. Paid the bill, & asked for my wife's potatoes to go & were told ""sorry, they'll be another 40 minutes."" So, service was very slow, everybody's food was very disappointing, so sorry, never again. more

AVOID. WHAT A RIP OFF. We went there for Thanksgiving day to try something different.I have always wanted to eat there. I called in advance and asked about the menu. THEY FAILED TO MENTION THEY WOULD ONLY HAVE LIKE 10 ITEMS ON THE MENU, 16.99 BEING THE CHEAPEST FOR WHITE MEAT TURKEY DINNER. I figured this place has been there a long time, we couldn't go wrong on the food. WRONG Ok, we get there, and are seated. The booths are not comfortable and it reminds me more of a fast food restaurant with the decor. I was already wishing we would have gone some where else. We had a coupon that said we could get 10.00 off a meal of 50.00 or more ANYTIME. NO EXCEPTIONS. Just had to be eaten in - no take out. No, the waitress saysy, they won't take the coupon. I had kind of suspected that anyway. Many restaurants pull that. The salmon on the menu is farm raised, but even though I got deathly ill from farm raised salmon at a fancy restaurant in scottsdale a few years ago at a company Christmas party, (which by the way our wonderful health dept did absolutely nothing about and many of us got so ill we thought we we were dying) I took a chance and ordered it. Firmly telling myself if it tasted odd, or undercooked I would send it back and order something else. The menu said all dinners came with yams and mixed vegetables. WRONG My husband ordered the gyro and so did my 89 year Mother. I had wanted to try it but I do not eat lamb. The waitress said the gryo came on a skewer. WRONG The rolls are brought. 3 of them. they are dry and not very good. we ask the waiter - he comes back and says that is the way they are suppose to be. The meal comes. My salmon was so small it was like where is the salmon! It was in a square and maybe 1/4 inch thick - like a 4 by 4 square. Much over cooked. Way oversalted/seasoned. The gyros were a joke and so was the salmon. The entire meals were a joke. the gyro was a string of meat that looked like sort of bigger flat jurkey sticks. meat beaten down by hammer. no taste. and it all looked the same. you couldn't tell any difference. so did they get beef and lamb?? who knows. and no yams, no mixed vegetables. we got mashed potatoes with a dab of gravy and mexican rice? and the beans were so tough you couldn't even chew them. End of eating this lousy meal, and we see other people eating different rolls. THAT ARE CHEWY. We ask and they oh we have about 3 kinds of rolls. DA - so the dry hard ones were good enough to feed us, but others get the soft good rolls. My Mom had her water glass refilled. The waitress took it to the back filled it up and brought it back to the table. Isn't there suppose to be a water pitcher? The meal cost us about 65.00, which included a big tip we should not have left. None of us will set a foot inside this place ever again. And I will recommend no one eat there. You will be sorely dissapointed and you may as well just throw the 65.00 in the garbage. You have seen the picture of the gorgeous taco on the outside of jack in the box, and you order one and it is a greasy flattened pancake mushy item with who knows what inside. My Big Fat Greek Restaurant is a Grecian restaurant. The outside and inside decor of the restaurant is colorful and inviting. The restaurant's menu was nothing great, but was easy to read. Their menu had many options for appetizers that were very traditional Grecian foods. The menu also included many different options for meals. Greek food was not the only food included in the menu; so was some Italian food. Everything from the classic gyro, to a personal pizza pie was included. Even chicken tenders were included in the children’s menu.\r I ordered the Sundried tomato humus as an appetizer and muscles as my main course. For a drink I ordered an iced tea which came in a huge cup. The appetizer was absolutely delicious, and created in me a love for humus. My main course, the muscles, was amazing. The flavors that were included in my meal sparked my taste buds. The meal came with a lot of food and by the time I paid, the not so expensive bill, I was full to the brim of delicious food.\r The service from the restaurant’s staff was outstanding, just like the food. My Big Fat Greek Restaurant was a great entry into Grecian food, and an experience that will not be easily forgotten. With the authentic food, great service, amazing food, and overall friendly atmosphere, My Big Fat Greek Restaurant is a restaurant I will recommend to anyone looking for not only a great meal but to those looking for a great time.\r more

Our family has been to this restaurant in Mesa many times. I am always impressed with the service and quality of their food. I am not sure if it is under new management, but the food is not the same as it was. We usually order the Gyro with the greek salad. Our greek salad was kind of warm and not fresh. Like it had been sitting around for awhile. The gyro had shredded iceberg lettuce instead of the usual romaine. It just seemed very different, and not as good as usual. I love the greek olives, and had a hard time finding one in my salad. I found one which was mini size. Our waitress was quite attentive, and even did a little curtsey every time she left our table. We found that quite interesting. I was so disappointed in our normally great food that I left the restaurant a little sad. I guess our bad economy is causing cut backs everywhere, even in the quality of the food they serve. Pros: Great Service Cons: Not the quality it once was. more

Nice place to take friends and family who aren't familiar with Greek food. Great tzatziki and other dips for the flat bread. Great apps, and nice staff. Staff dances around tables when certain songs play. There are a few flambe dishes, including a dessert, that are fun to watch go up in flame. Would recommend to anyone. more

The food is great, the service is fast and friendly and there is usaully no wait, if there is it is short. more
