great place for bad dates 2/28/2006

Usually museums are a good place to go on a date, but I don't think so about this one... unless you wanna take one of those gross guys that you're trying to scare off. This is a museum of oddities and just weird stuff. Really cool though if you ask me. You should definately go there at least once in your life. more

Better than Fear Factor 2/5/2006

This isn't a place for the squeamish, and probably not a good place to take a date (unless they're into that stuff, in which case, you've got another set of things to have a good long think about). Full of medical oddities - the types of things you'd seein Ripley's - and a huge collection of freaks of nature, it's a good destination for some "ewww!"s and "cooool..."s. At eight bucks for an hour or two of things to look at, it's a better investment than most movies these days. more

Museum of The Wierd 1/12/2006

Where else can you see the world's largest colon? How about conjoined twins? This is the place for the person who enjoys a freak show, these medical mysteries and oddities are all on display here, if you have a sense of adventure, and a little bit of a stomach for medical oddities, you will love this museum, a must see, little known adventure in Philadelphia! Try it you will have fuN! more

Odd... Very Odd. 9/11/2005

The Mutter Museum of medical oddities and diseases is just... odd, and extremely fascinating. This museum is filled with medical and scientific oddities that are in and out of jars and bottles. There is also a great collection of medical contraptions and tools from the past. The museum offers many exhibits and occasionally there are even special exhibits (the one that I saw related to gynecological instruments throughout time). The collection of skulls is one of the largest in the world. This is not the place for someone who is easily grossed out or has a weak stomach. But if you like creepy things and gore then you really should go. more

A Fascinating Afternoon 9/11/2005

If you are interested in the history of presidential ailments or want to see a midget skeleton, then this is the place for you. The entire place is fascinating, but my favorite part was the drawers full of various objects that people had swallowed over the year. The 10-foot long colon was also a highlight. Not for the squeamish. more

Famous Medical Oddity Museum in Philly 8/18/2005

The Mutter Museum, associated with the College of Physicians, is renowned for its collection of medical oddities such as the world's largest colon (from a man with Hirschsprung's Disease) and its drawers of foreign objects removed from patients' bodies. It also has special exhibits on medical history such as a popular recent one on medicine during the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The museum reportedly inspired the movie "The Elephant Man" by one-time Philadelphia native David Lynch. more

Oddities and more. 8/17/2005

This is one of the strangest and most fascinating museums I have ever visited. It is full of medical specimens and anatomy anomalies. There are collections of unusually shaped or sized organs or diseased body parts in fluid in jars. There is historically significant medical equipment. There are skull and skeletons and there is even a plaster cast of those famous conjoined twins Chang and Eng. If medical things or science interest you this place will fascinate you. My daughter and sons all loved it, either for the interesting facts or the gross out stories they could tell their friends. more

This museum is the oddest museum in the world. They have some very strange displays and exhibits that send chills down your spine when you see them. I don't know who thought of this place, but it is the place to go to see things that you wouldn't expect to see anywhere else. An extremely interesting find! more

Get ready to be shocked 8/6/2005

This is a very unique, relatively small museum in center city where you can spend a few hours. It houses medical oddities which include aborted fetuses with congenital anomalies and skeletons of conjoined twins. Hence it may not be appropriate for all audiences. The display cases are all antique and the layout is stellar. There are also traveling exhibits. Recently there was an exhibit on the Lewis and Clark expedition and all the medical problems they faced. There is also significant space devoted to medical outbreaks and medical mysteries. more
