A simple critique of service should not lead you to walk out of a restaurant fearing that you are about be attacked. As regular customers of Mt. Fugi, we have always encouraged people to give the place a try touting their fresh sushi as outweighing their spotty service (see our previous review). Tonight, both my husband and I were physically confronted by the sushi chef for making a complaint about an extremely long wait for sashimi (50 minutes after the order was placed in an empty restaurant). I can never recommend Mt. Fugi again. Thirty minutes after our order was placed, one patron came in and sat at the sushi bar. He, and the guitar player who provides music for Mt. Fugi at sat down at roughly the same time, were both served their sushi while we had another 20 minute wait. The issue with the long wait was first brought up to the waiter who then brought it up with the management. The sushi chef/management /owner, within our earshot, told the waiter that we should take our food and leave. The waiter apologized for the long wait and threw our check down on the table (our meal had just been served). If Mt. Fugi had made a small gesture, like a simple apology from the manager/chef, we would have been satisfied. As this was the second time within two weeks that we experienced such a wait, further discussion with the manager was warranted. My husband asked to speak to him, but he would not come over and speak with us. He then approached the chef/manager at the sushi bar, explaining his disappointment and that he was ashamed of their service. The sushi chef started yelling at him to ""Come back here and talk to me!"" My husband walked away. As we were walking out of the restaurant, the chef came after us yelling. He started shaking his finger in my husbands face, almost hitting him on the nose with each wag. My husband asked him to stop the finger wagging. The chef continued. At that point, my husband wagged his finger right back and said ""NO!"" The chef ranted to us that 50 minutes was acceptable in an empty restaurant and that we had no idea how difficult his job was. He kept shouting at my husband to ""Come over here to talk to me!"" while pointing out back. We can only assume that he was asking to ""take it outside to fight"". As we have had great experiences dining in Japan, at that point I said ""I have never had a 50 minute wait in Japan in crowded sushi restaurants...You would be an embarrassment to other Japanese chefs."" The chef then escalated his voice even further, started wagging his finger in my face, almost hitting my nose as well, and then stomped his foot right at mine, putting his face within centimeters of mine. The chef did everything possible to try to incite violence. He was so threatening that I even had my phone ready to dial 911 in case his physical actions led to physical violence. I applaud my husband for keeping calm until the chef tried to intimidate me, at which point he stepped in front of me, getting the jerk out of my face, and said, ""You know what? ***k you"" Both of us are can't believe that this actually happened. If this is how you treat semi-weekly customers, how do you treat everyone else? Mt. Fugi embarrassed no one but themselves. Stay away.
