Someone I know took their laptop to Mr. Notebook's West Campus location because it suddenly turned itself off. Mr. Notebook reported the motherboard was damaged and offered "data recovery" at $100 per hour. An independent review of the problem from someone who actually has a Computer Science degree and a conscience revealed the solder joints on the A/C power connector had been damaged, a typical problem for older laptops.
In reality, no "data recovery" was required as the system was found to be completely functional. Solution? Keep the laptop stationary while in use. While there is a problem, a service was offered without correctly diagnosing the issue, or they've simply stayed in business for the past ten years by taking advantage of desperate students.
Did I mention their refurbished laptops are just as costly if not more than new ones?
