We had a short move from the downtown apartment to midtown. We chose Moving Services of America in Berkeley because they were recommended by a friend, and were also the lowest priced we found. These guys were fast, courteous, and did everything possible to protect our stuff. I was shocked that the move was completed so quickly. We'd minor damage to our bed, and when I pointed it out for them, they offered to pay the entire cost of the repair, well beyond what we should were insured for. The harm was so minor, and really beyond what they can control, so that I decided to not even pursue it. As we have to move again, we will be using Moving Services of America. more

I moved my business in Berkeley to a new location. I had many valuables that were very high priced including paintings, sculptures and numerous pieces of art that were irreplaceable. I had learned about Moving Services of America and decided to call them to get an estimate. I was greeted with a very courteous sales representative, who reassured me of Moving Services of America excellent degree of service, as I was very nervous with all the expensive items I had to move. Every piece was moved without a scratch on it. The movers knew exactly how to wrap and pack each item. They were the greatest bunch of guys, and turned what could have been a very stressful experience, into one of the best moving experiences. I will unquestionably be utilising them again for any future moves, and can highly recommend them. more

I did a lot of online investigation into well-rated Berkeley moving companies and called a number of movers for quotes. Moving Services of America provided the best hourly rate, and that i decided to go with them. The three movers were promptly, very professional, and very helpful. They completed my proceed to a new studio in lust a few hours, and everything arrived here in fine condition. The charge at the end of the move was as decided, although there were a few additional $10 charges for shrink-wrap for that couch and a bag for the chair. Overall, Moving Services of America made moving day manageable. Five stars and I would definitely recommend them. more

Recently i hired Moving Services of America to help me with my move. They provided a stressful experience smooth and easy. The first thing that impressed me about Moving Services of America, is that the owner, personally came to my apartment to create the estimate. In all the years of living in Berkeley and all the moves I've made, this was the first time that the owners has taken the time and care to can even make sure I was being taken care of. The day of my move, the men who came to move me were so wonderful. These were polite and courteous and were extremely careful with all of my belongings. Not only was the move quick and painless, but the estimate I had been given held true at the end of the move. I have already recommended Manor to many of my friends and coworkers and that i will use them myself on my small next move. You really can't go wrong with this company! more

It had been my first move, so naturally I've lot and lots of questions, and all sorts of were answered patiently from the very patient Christi who won my business with the professionalism. Every little detail she set it up and my husband when we conference called concerning the hourly price and extra expense of supplies, was a big help on the move day. We were packed and ready for that movers, and had an easy, surprise free move. Well, no bad surprises anyway. There were nice ones: they gave me an arrival window of 8:000-10:00am, and arrived on 8:05. Which was a good start and I was glad the day kept going in that direction. I wanted to drop a note to thank Moving Services of America for the wonderful job they did in moving me. This was the first time I have ever used a moving company and what a pleasant surprise it was. Because of the delay in getting my notifications from our Homeowner's Association regarding the date I was required to move and from the construction company regarding the move back date, I realized that I was rushing them to do everything from estimates to scheduling the move date, out as well as back into my home. My husband and I had a terrible experience with this company. Sherry Clark at MSA gave us a quote of $2,480 and a truck came to picked up our belongings on May 14th, 2011 at which time we paid $1,200. A week after they picked up our stuff Sherry told us that it would need to pay an additional $2,900 (stating that the weight of our belongings was 6,660 pounds way over the estimated of 4,000 pounds she originally told us). So the additional weight was the reason for the extra charges. We were supposed to get our stuff by June 1st, around June 10th we started to get really frustrated and thats when we read all the negative reviews (and we realized all the positive reviews written months earlier were all fake). I contacted the Department of Transportation (DOT) hotline at 1-888-368-7238 we learned that Moving Services of America (MSA) is really a company called ""Allstate Relocation Van Lines"". They WERE a licensed company (DOT #1462677) however their license was revoked in April of 2011. Therefore Moving Services of America (aka Allstate Relocation Van Lines) is not currently licensed. We filed a complaint with the DOT and if you have been a victim of this company I encourage you to do the same. The truck arrived in our town on June 29th, 2011. Sherry Clark told us on the phone that they would not unload our stuff unless we paid the FULL balance upon arrival (the full balance meaning the $2,900 that she told us we had to pay because of the extra weight). We had a cashiers check ready for roughly $1,200 (which was the remaining balance of 110% of the original quote. We learned from the DOT that legally a customer only has to pay 110% of the original quote to have the shipment unloaded, and then any additional charges can be billed within 30 days). But Sherry told the truck drivers not come to our house until we agreed to pay the FULL balance, so we finally agreed to do so. Sherry said we could pay the remaining amount with a personal check. So we wrote our a personal check for around $1,700. We told Sherry Clark on the phone that we wanted our belongings reweighed at the weigh station close to our home. Sherry agreed to this (legally moving companies have to reweigh your belongings if you request it). We met the truck at the weighed station before they unloaded our stuff and got an initial weight. Then the drivers followed us to our house and we gave them the cashiers check (for $1,200), PLUS the personal check (for $1,700). AT that point they then unpacked the truck (a few boxes were missing, we lost about $500 worth of stuff). We then all went back to the weigh station for a second weigh-in and that is when we discovered the TRUE weight of our belongings was only 3,500 pounds! At this point the driver GAVE US OUR PERSONAL CHECK BACK for $1,700! Thank goodness that the driver was at least a reasonable person. The driver did demand that we pay $325 for ""packing materials"" which we just gave him in cash. But the point of the story is, having the truck reweighed saved us over $1,400!! If you are in this same situation, DEMAND TO HAVE THE TRUCK RE-WEIGHED! The way this company is scamming people is by lying about the weight of your items and telling you that you owe a few more thousand than you do. This post is meant for people who have already had their belongings taken, if you have paid a deposit with this company, please DO NOT LET THEM TAKE YOUR STUFF. It may take months to get it back, some of your stuff maybe stolen, they will lie to you about the weight of your items, and try to trick you into paying more money. I suggest cancelling your credit card (if you used it for the deposit) and look for another company. If you have been scammed by Moving Services of America, you are not alone! I hope and pray there is some power out there that can shut this company down for good. Please spread the word about your story so we can prevent other people from having this experience. more

My family used Moving Services of America movers for the past 8 years. Their packers were and quick and very careful. I used them to pack my 5 bedroom home and I thought it would take them at least 10 hours. They were done in 5 hours with 3 packers. Moving Services of America moving crew and also top notch. Movers were running 15 minutes late and called me to let me know that they were stuck in traffic. When you are packed, they really can pack the van quickly. I highly recommend Moving Services of America movers in Berkeley! more

Where do I begin? How about the basics to help keep other consumers out of trouble.\r \r Any reputable moving company should be happy to provide you with their D.O.T. or MA number. It's so necessary that most reputable moving companies will place this information on their websites. You should also be able to look them up on the US Department of Transportation website. Here, I'll give you the link:\r \r safer.fmcsa.dot.gov/CompanySnapshot.aspx\r \r You won't find them. Why? Because they are a shell company, and they use other shady trucking services. It's just like the other reviewers. You'll talk to Sherry, she'll make you feel good, determine that you don't know enough about the moving industry, and then bait with a low-ball estimate, making you believe that you're getting a great deal. Its not until they're ready to deliver that you find out the estimate was pie in the sky, and your actual cost is 3x or so. Yep, and, if you want your stuff...you're gonna pay it.\r \r So, look them up. Figure out that they're not a reputable company who will do their best to give good service at a cost that they estimate, and find a moving company that has a D.O.T. or MA number. \r \r Oh, but what about all the great reviews? Remember the old maxim that says ""do a great job and one in ten will mention you, do a piss poor job, and everyone will mention you""? Those good reviews are a hoax. Think about it. You could write one for this company right now. Read the poor reviews. They have a bit of meat on their digital bones. \r \r The place is a scam. Yes, the goods arrived, but they have found a business that, although regulations exist, enforcement is minimal, and being interstate, chances are the customer is far enough away that they'll end up eating the enormous additional costs, and not pursue a lawsuit due to the inconvenience of having to go to California to do it.\r \r So, incompetent or criminal? My money is on criminal. more

We are 100% licensed and insured moving company. Our main office is in California with nine locations with storages and trucks only in different states, so we could accommodate our customers. Previous reviewer’s quote (at least we believe this is the same customer since she misstating the facts) was $1875.00 for a move only (no packing) when we arrived customer needed full pack (nothing was packed at all). We charged $600 for a packing services and she agreed to the charges in writing. Now her total is $2,475.00 but she only wants to pay $1875.00 and unless we agree she will post bad reviews all over internet. more

THIS PLACE LIES!!!! A FRIEND USED THEM TO MOVE AND THEY WON'T GIVE HER BACK ANYTHING UNTIL SHE PAYS 3x WHAT THEY QUOTED HER. ALL THEIR ADDRESSES ARE FAKE OR JUST MAIL BOXES SO YOU CAN'T FIND THEM. THEY USE A FAKE DOT# ON THEIR APPLICATION. PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR STUFF. THEY WILL TAKE IT AND RUN. JUST TRY TO FIND AN OWNER'S NAME OUT FROM THE GIRL SHERRY THAT ANSWERS THE PHONE, I PROMISE SHE WILL GIVE YOU A HUGE RUNAROUND. FURTHERMORE THERE IS MORE FINE PRINT IN THEIR CONTRACT THAN ACTUAL CONTRACT. ALSO NONE OF THEIR REVIEWS ARE REAL. SHADY!!!!!!!! more

This was a very stressful move for our family, as we had to move due to me losing my job and then getting a new job 30 minutes away. My children were not happy about the move. Moving Services may not have been able to make my children happy, but they were able to take away some of the stress by handling the move so well. We knew that the movers were very competent and we did not have to worry about the actual physical part of it, which took a lot of stress off of my and my wife. Thank you! more
