This is one of the gems of the City that most people don't know about, but who movie buffs have a frequent renters card. This place has so many titles, it's unbelievable. And, if they don't have it, I believe they will either order it, or tell you where you might be able to find the title you're looking for. Great selection, knowledgeable staff, crappy parking, good rates. more

you won't find it! Movie madness has the regular stuff that you might find at block buster but it also has stuff no one else will. For example, how many video stores in Portland carry my personal intellectual cult classic "Dinner with Andre" or Japanese anime or French feature films?? Movie Madness has staff that are truely fanatical movie goers. Each week you can find different staff picks posted in various sections....find one you like and you'll start to become that staff reviewer's own personal fan! In this day and age of patriotism, one thing that may interest many people is their vast collection of old war films...not a favorite of mine, but truly loved by many of my men friends. (Ok, not "loved" but "wanted" - more "manly") Price wise, Movie Madness is about the same as every other film rental place around...but their selections go far above and beyond the call of duty. more

I first learned about Movie Madness in college, when a professor recommended it to the class. My friends and I hopped in my car and made the first trip one random Saturday. We instantly fell in love. There is so much personality when you first walk in the door. You know instantly that this isn't going to be the typical antiseptic experience offered by chain video stores. They have entire sections devoted to genres such as film noir that usually merit one or two videos tops in the major chains. It quickly became a weekend ritual to go to Movie Madness and rent some obscure movie from years ago or a foreign film with an interesting cover. I am always disappointed when I go somewhere else and can't find a movie that I really love and found at Movie Madness. more

Movie maddness reminded me of an Empire Records style Movie rental store. This place has a fun atmosphere(unlike most chains) and has proabley the biggest selection of videos you would find in Portland. They even have the odd foreign films, and randoms tv series that are so hard to find. more

In a non-descript part of town, it's a true find. Movie Madness has EVERYTHING you could ever want in a movie store...complete with actual movie props! Remember, however, that some of the world's best stuff isn't on DVD, so check it online first. The staff is brimming with expertise, don't be afraid to ask. Be aware that on weekend nights the check out line is 20+mins. more

Mike's Movie Madness on Belmont in SE Portland is an exceptional local video rental store. But don't let it's local small business feel fool you, Movie Madness has a plethora of movies available for rent. Also, awesome movie memoriabilia is on display throughout the store. Friendly employees who are knowledge about the stores supply of movies are a nice bonus. The only bummer is that the prices run a little bit higher then other movie stores. But overall, great store! more

Wow - they have absolutely EVERY movie (VHS and DVD) every made (just about)! Plus the have a ton of movie memorabelia. In fact, it is worth going to visit, just to see the movie memorabelia. But, I know you really want to rent movies. They have everything! I have rented all the seasons of Startrek Voyager, DS9, TNG. They have tons of Anime, Foreign films. Literally anything you can think of they have in stock. Their prices are great and the people are friendly. I highly recommend Movie Madness! more

Without question, if you're looking for weird out of date movies, tv shows, whatever, they have it. I like old weird rare stuff and they've never not had a film I was looking for. A portland resource and institution, plus all the cool movie props. Wish they had a drop off someplace else, but it's fine. It's worth it. more

Movie Madness is truly a Portland landmark. It's independently owned and run and carries every film you could ever want (and many that are far too weird and wacky for most tastes). Movies are available on a variety of formats and they're not phasing out VHS tapes like the big boy chains. The owner and his staff are some of the most knowledgeable (and okay, kinda geeky) film buffs on the planet. They are passionate about movies and will recommend stuff you've never heard of, whether you ask them to or not. Real Hollywood props line the store and staff picks are $1. New releases--yes, they carry them--are $3. Swing by the store on Belmont and be prepared to be amazed. more
