My son jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge in January, and as he had no ID on him, the coroner had his remains sent to Mt Tamalpais Mortuary under their contract with the Mortuary. Our initial meeting with Jack went very well, and it was agreed my son would be cremated and they would handle his being scattered at sea. When I received the death certificates, my name as informant was misspelled, so I called them to have this corrected. The woman I spoke to accused me of not paying attention when I had reviewed the death certificate with her at their office, and only backed down when I let her know I had not worked with her, but with Jack and I had never seen a typed version of the death certificate. She then stated that they had copied my name from the coroner's report and that was why it was wrong, but grudgingly started the process for the correction. I received the coroner's report a few days later and there were no typos in it, so obviously that isn't where the typo came from. Additionally, the death certificate indicated the remains had been interred on 1/18/2011, so I assumed that was when my son's ashes were scattered. My daughter had asked to be informed when they were to be scattered, but has never heard anything from them. In mid-September, I received a card from the Mortuary stating my son's remains had finally been scattered on September 1, 2011. If I had known they would be sitting in storage somewhere for 7 months, I certainly would have made other arrangements for the scattering of his ashes. I hope I never have to deal with this Mortuary again, and would not recommend them to anyone.
