Editorial review from Citysearch 10/26/2012

Went to Mt. Everest to get my snowboard waxed in March, 2012. They did a great job and even tighted my bindings without me asking. They did a nice basic tune up of my board because it needed it and didn't charge me extra. The people were very nice and knowledgable. I'd definitely go back. more

Great Sales Help 10/17/2011

Recently went to Mt. Everest to buy some accessories for my son. I really haven't much knowledge about winter sports, and the staff made me feel comfortable throughout the buying experience. Prices were fair-a wee bit more than the big box stores-but i'd gladly pay these prices for one on one help. I noticed they had poor reviews on their rental policies-I do not have any experience in this department. As for the retail end, they are GREAT! more

Rental policies are rather strict, deposits late 12/23/2010

Staff is helpful, selection is good, but there's fine print in rentals - you can ONLY return skis to the shop in the months of September and October. Also took three phone calls and three months to get our rental deposit mailed back to us. more

Great Experience 5/20/2010

I googled the store again to find the number for my friend and could not believe the review by ski233. The manager told me about a boot fitter they had that I should see, said he was their best. I got a comfy boot for a great price. He was so nice to me and my dad. He was also helping another lady at the same time and all of us had a good time. I think his name is Mark he has long hair. I told all my friends about him and they are going to get boots. They have lots of hats and clothes too. I love hats!!! hehehe Pros: Helpful, friendly more

Horrific Experience 2/1/2010

My family and I have been shopping our entire ski life at Mt Everest. I remember renting my first pair of seasonal equipment 20 years ago. I have referred almost every ski enthusiast I can possibly think of to this store. On my recent visit, my friend needed new boots. As we were looking around, my friend was curious as to how much they were selling his newly bought skis. As we asked a passing employee, he shortly replied “we don’t carry them”. We asked if they carried a specific brand name boot, and he continued with his short reply of “we don’t carry them”. As we were looking at the showcase of boots, he abruptly shouted “you will not find anything by just looking at them.” I was very surprised and taken back by his remark and requested if we can have somebody else assist us. He smirkingly remarked that he is the master boot fitter so he would be the person to talk to. I asked for a manager and he mentioned that he was a manager. I asked for his manager and he told me to ask for him at the front of the store. A manager came by and was no assistance. His response for the employee’s action was that he was busy and asked if we would apologize to one another. I was hoping that the owner of the store would have come down as he has many time before assisted my family with make our purchases. I left the store in complete disappointment and shock. I have never in my life experienced such a rude and unprofessional level of customer service. And would have never imagined it to be at this store. Unfortunately because of this incident, I will not shop at Mt Everest again, and will alert all of my referrals. Pros: Used to be the ""family ski shop"" Cons: Appalling customer service more

Go elsewhere if you want your deposit returned! 12/29/2009

My experience was similar to fogster99. I rented equipment for myself and two children in 2006. As he said, you cannot return the equipment at the end of the season. You must wait 'til Sept. while they outsource their storage to their customers. \r \r I did re-rent in 2007. In 2008, I had forgotten about the skis (and my kids got some hand-me-downs) and I returned them late (after Nov. 1). Because of this ,they would not refund my deposit. They said the only way I could get it back was to re-rent again. I didn't really need to but I decided to rent skis for my third child. Returned them on timein '09 and was told they would mail back my $150 deposit. This was early October.\r \r A month went by and I didn't receive it. I called and they said it was on its way. About two weeks later, I visited in person. They claimed there was a glitch and it would be mailed ""tomorrow."" Another 2-3 weeks went by and apparently the only person in the whole freakin' store who deals with checks was always ""away."" The manager would not return my calls.\r \r When I finally connected with Carol, the check lady, she claimed to have already mailed the check. They made a big show out of having to ""call the bank and make sure it hadn't been cashed."" This also took a week or two.\r \r After repeated calls, they finally condescended to cut a new check and mail it. I insisted on picking it up in person, which I did. I promptly cashed it at THEIR bank, afraid it would bounce if I did it at my own. \r \r This year, I split our rentals between Ski Barn and Cury's. We'll see who does better when the time comes to return, which is at least the end of ski season and not next fall! Pros: Beats me Cons: Took 3 years to get my deposit back! more

Beware of the ""fine print"" 11/11/2009

The equipment and prices are reasonable and similar to others stores. \r The problem is that they turn the store into a pool equipment shop during the summer. To make room, they force you to hang on to your skis and you are only allowed to return the equipment ""between Sep 1 and Nov 1"". If you rent skis because you don't want to keep it in your apartment year-round you're out of luck - they actually refused to take mine back at the end of the season. \r However, the biggest rip-off is if you return after Nov 1. Note, they say Nov 1 and count on the fact that most people will not remember the details 9-12 months later and assume they can return the skis in Nov. Why not say ""Oct 31""?? That happened to me and when I returned the equipment early in Nov I was told that I will not be getting back my deposit ($160, about 75% of the cost of the rental I already paid). They are ""kind"" enough to turn it into store credit so now you are forced to spend another $160 on their pricey accessories. \r Pleading with the manager had yielded even more frustration. He simply said ""read the contract"" and walked away.\r Not the experience that entice return customers. I certainly won't be doing business with them again. Pros: Good selection, reasonable prices Cons: Outrageous rental return policy more
