Traditional, integral business 3/8/2008

Go to M/C Works with a purpose: to have a certain service performed on your bike. If you are unsure of the procedures your machine requires, and you wish for it to run and fully operate soundly, then admit the limitations of overview on your part. Be sure to ask for a complete treatment of maintenance. One might assume the user's awareness of existing conditions. A lot goes into the smooth functioning of a motorcycle, especially mine (BMW R 65 LS), as I have come to understand--thanks to Tom. His attention to the variables is par excellence. Pros: as advertised Cons: location, but don't ask for directions... figure it out yourself. more

Motor cycle works maintains my bmw K bike in an excellent manner: very precise and when a service detail cannot be performed i am told why and what the other options are. Pros: quality of service, reasonable price Cons: need to make an appointment more

Fantastic Mechanic 10/1/2007

I have been goign to Tom for over three years now. He has a wealth of knowledge and the first time I was there with my Honda Nighthawk he explained a whole bunch of stuff to me. Pros: Technically Experienced, Knowledgeable, Fair-Priced more

Good mechanic 8/2/2007

He seems to evoke extreme responses - people either dislike him or revere him as a mechanical god. The truth is in between. He's a good mechanic, I've never had any problem with his work, and I trust him - he doesn't rip you off (certainly he charges less than the exorbitant Manhattan BMW!). It is sometimes hard to get an appointment. In a good mood he's really helpful, but other times it's like trying to deal with an irritable rock star or an exclusive maitre'd. If you're thick-skinned or female, you'll probably do fine. If you're a sensitive soul and he makes you feel like you're asking him for a favor in looking at your bike, don't take it personally. more

Best BMW motorcycle mechanic anywhere. Leave ego at the door. 7/27/2007

I have taken my BMW motorcycle to Tom for over four years. I would not trust anyone else to touch my motorcycle. I have spent thousands of dollars on my classic BMW at Motorcyle Works Limited, and even though it hurt when I had to pay (cash only) I knew that one truly great (albeit moody) mechanic worked on it. Appointments only. A truly unique, New York City experience. Pros: Cheaper than the BMW agent. Best mechanic for your motorcycle, Honest, Unique Cons: Takes a long time to get appointment. more

Motorcycle Works doesn't work. 6/21/2007

Tom was recommended to me as a great mechanic, and I went there and spent $1800 on my bike. He treated me like I was asking him a favor to fix my bike and after that it still leaks oil and the battery dies all the time.....you figure out if you can trust this guy. Pros: convenient location Cons: Tom, the only mechanic there more

Tom is a good mechanic with high integrity (no cheating). In addition, he can work on a wide variety of vintage Bikes German (BMW), Brits (Triumph), Japs (Honda CB), and US (Harley). I am so glad his workshop locates in Brooklyn. Pros: Subway access, good neighborhood, real professional Cons: shop hard to find more
