I recently had dinner at Morton's Steakhouse with another couple. We were greeted at the door and our reservations were honored and we were seated. Our waiter greeted up promptly and advised us that there was prime rib on the menu but "it goes quickly" and to order it now. The men did. Hot onion bread and butter was served as were our drinks. My wife's appetizer of lobster cocktail was good, but considering the price, skimpy. The two shrimp cocktails were moist, meaty and big (Viet Nam shrimp we were told). My scallops wrapped in bacon was good, but again, the portion size (3) for the price was small. Up to that point everything was acceptable. Our waiter was attentive, but we were his only table. Our entrees were served. My wife's bread crumb covered shrimp was slightly overdone making it chewy, the salmon entree was good and the two prime ribs were made as ordered, one medium one well. The side of broccoli was steamed but the grilled asparagus was drowned in a balsamic sauce that ruined the taste. As we ate the restaurant became busy and noisy. Twenty minutes after we had finished our meal our waiter was busy elsewhere and never came back. Our plates remained on the table. I stopped the Maitre D and asked that the plates be removed. He nodded yes and walked away. Ten minutes later, I got out of my seat, walked over to the Maitre D to explain that I wanted the plates removed, NOW. He immediately went to our waiter and the plates were taken away. Dessert was pre-ordered, a chocolate lava cake with ice cream and 4 spoons. Coffee and tea were served and the dessert was put on the table, with four forks and NO plates. My wife wanted to call him back because eating ice cream with a fork is difficult at best, but I opted to get the check and leave. Summary: AMBIANCE - Excellent, FOOD - inconsistent, NOISE LEVEL - Can you hear me now?, SERVICE - mediocre, COST - Expensive, OVERALL - for $200 a couple I can find hundreds of restaurants in Palm Beach County to fulfill my every request. Would I go there again, NOT!
