I came here with a group last week and the service could not have been better! Pros: null Cons: null

If you work on the channel or have business lunches on teh channel, you don't have a lot of choice and they know it. Food is good, service is crude, and the place is just plain a...

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/12/2014

Car will get broke into. The management is well aware of the recurring issue. Over 5 cars got broke into when I was there, with lot attendants on duty. Smashed everyone's windows. I was parked next to the attendants car, so you do the math. Good food, but pricey once you have to get car fixed. Management wasn't really interested in hearing issues. more

Delightful experience! 5/1/2012

My family decided to go to the monument inn for my sisters birthday. There was about 15 of us dining upstairs. We had a reservation, so we sat right away. Our server (leslie) was amazing. I was worried my sister would give her a run for her money, but she was ready. Everything came out in an orderly manner. I was greatful everything went as well as it did. Its not easy getting everyone together. I look forward to going back. Pros: null Cons: null more

BEST SEAFOOD!! 4/11/2012

This place is a hidden gem. Every visit I order something different and I haven't been let down once. Everything is always fresh, hot, and the view is amazing. Pros: null Cons: null more

Best Seafood around 4/29/2010

This place has the best seafood anywhere even remotely close to Houston! I usually get the Tilapia and it is always very tasty! My gf usually gets some sort of fried seafood sampler and she never has any complaints. It is kind of a drive for most people but it is well worth it. I also enjoy the view with all different types of boats passing by, definitely a unique experience! I would recommend this place to anyone! Pros: fresh seafood, beautiful view of ship channel Cons: kind of far to drive more

Unusual, Friendly, But Bland 4/28/2010

The Monument Inn is located at the end of Independence Rd., in Pasadena down by the ship channel. (Battleground Rd. has been renamed Independence Rd.) If you don't live in the area, you will definitely need to search for it on Mapquest before attemtping to find it on your own. The restaurant is famous for it's "all-you-can eat" platter, for just under $30. (I believe it was $27.95 pp). But the dinner is initiated by requiring you to start with the boiled shrimp and raw oysters plate. I love boiled shrimp, but raw oysters are not my thing. I did try the raw oysters, but they were totally devoid of any ocean flavor, having apparently been washed to the point of extinction. The next course allows you to "freelance" your plate and order fried catfish, fried shrimp, fried oysters and stuffed crab. I tried everything except the fried catfish; again, catfish is not high on my list of seafood favorites. While the quantity of seafood for the price is formidable, the overall taste of each seafood sample was quite bland. The fried oysters tasted as though the ocean flavor had been totally washed out of them before frying them. The stuffed crab contained heavy breading with no discernable crab meat in it. The fried shrimp were actually okay, but I have still had better elsewhere. If you are looking for quantity, this is the place. If you are looking for quality, I would suggest looking elsewhere. On the upside, the waitstaff were very friendly and courteous. Pros: Large, All-You-Can Eat Seafood Option Cons: Odd location, bland batter more

Good food! 5/18/2009

We drive from 45-south so it's about a 20 minute drive for us. When you first pull up it smells like fish, but guess why? Because it's by the water! I'm willing to put that aside because I'll be eating inside anyway. We usually go on a Saturday so there is a wait. They give you this really really good bread once your at your table. The stuffed jalapenos are really good. The caesar salad is good. I get the Shrimp Jamboree which has shrimp cooked in 5 different ways. I'm not one for stuffed shrimp, but theirs are pretty good. It is kind of pricey so we don't go very often. All in all, the drive, the smell, and the wait are well worth it. Pros: The bread and the view Cons: The smell once you arrive and the wait more

fantastic 5/3/2009

I've been to the Monument Inn a few times. Every time I wonder why why it took me so long to go back! The 20 minute drive is offset by the wonderful seafood, service and the VIEW..oh and the cinnamon rolls. They have done a big remodel since my last visit and the place looks great but the tables may be too close together..try the alligator as an appetizer and my favorite entree is the blackend redfish with pontchartrain sauce..you should check this hidden gem out people! Pros: great food and perfect view Cons: a bit of a drive more

Not what I expected. 4/15/2009

I visited Monument Inn a few months ago after staying away for over 20 years.? This restaurant, in times past, was a meeting place for family and friends. I was very supprised at the over-priced menu,? since we could not eat the food.? The fried oysters and shrimp could not be consumed my me or my guest.? I was embarrised and felt robbed by the check.? Pros: Great Bread and Salad Cons: Over Priced and poor quality food. more

Excellent 4/7/2009

Excellent, fresh local seafood. My wife and I are very discriminating about fresh seafood. We were both thrilled with our fresh, hot, well prepared meals. The young man who was our server was as good as it gets. We will be returning there. more

best seafood in town! 1/19/2009

I've been coming to the Monument Inn for 20 years. The food is always delicious and the cinnamon rolls are to die for. They have recently remodeled the entire restaurant and banquet rooms (due to IKE) and the place is better than it's ever been. I try something new almost every time I go there but my favorite is the panfried shrimp. The place is always busy especially on weekend nights. Ask for a window table to better see all those huge ships that go right past the restaurant. Our service, while not polished like a 4 star restaurant, is always prompt and polite. If you haven't tried out this gem, you need to..It's a little out of the way, but worth the trip. Pros: quality seafood, fair pricing, great view Cons: a little drive to get there more

Good food offset by restaurant not banning smoking. 1/18/2009

Food was great, portion sizes were more than ample. Waitress was very personable. Pros: Food quality, ample portions. Cons: Smoking not banned. more

Not what it use to be! 1/16/2009

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid and have always enjoyed it. My last visit though will probably be my last. The misses and me recently went and were kinda surprised by the price increase portion decrease and overall quality of food. We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters on half shell which looked gross with black/green lumps in them not to mention the shell particles that were in with the oyster overall I would pass and this is the third straight time this has happened. The misses ordered bowl of shrimp, chicken & sausage gumbo it came in a much smaller bowl than they use to serve it in and had absolutely no flavor to it. I ordered a bowl of craw fish bisque and have had this dish several time before but never in this small of a bowl. The bisque is usualy heavy and creamy but instead it was watery and thing. The cinnamon rolls were still good though. Also we had to wait about 15 minutes for a hostess to sit us with many available tables. Pros: The waiter was good but had a sign saying hostess needed, so understandable. Cons: quality of food was poor and price was higher than normal. more

Monument Inn 8/7/2008

I am a professional Tour Guide and I always take my clients to this restaurant when we are in the area. For a visitor to Houston, this is a must. San Jacinto, the Houston Ship Channel, Battleship Texas, and Monument Inn, what a combination. The food is always good, the service friendly, and the view. It makes you proud to be a Texan and a Houstonian. Pros: Location, View, food Cons: Getting There for first time more

Busy on weekends, good customer service, and good food. 7/24/2008

I took a group of about 25 people here on a Sunday afternoon. Our reservations were made a few days in advance. Despite our reservations and arrival confirmation, it took about 20 minutes get a table. I am not complaining, just stating the facts. After being seated, service was prompt. The atmosphere is nice. You can see ships coming into and out of the bay. The dining area upstairs gets fairly crowded on weekends though so definately make reservations in advance. The food was okay. I ordered redfish with a ponchartrain wine sauce. There was quite a bit of salt in the food but it was good. Before we ate they served us bread and cinamon rolls, which were great. All in all it was fun and a good place for large groups. Pros: Nice eating on the bay. Cons: Food could be better. more

Great views! 6/28/2008

Yearly, I have to go to the Monument Inn for the terrific views of ship channel traffic, the proximity to the Battleship Texas & San Jacinto Monument. The food is average, with lots of fried seafood on the menu. The young waitstaff are friendly, helpful, efficient. The decor could use a little freshening, but heck, I love the place! Pros: Views of the Ship Channel & boat traffic Cons: A little out of the way more

Great Party Place 3/10/2008

I had a birthday party for my daughter downstairs and everyone is still talking about it. The service was fantasic and orderly. No one had to wait for the food or drinks. The setting up of the room was perfect and I have nothing but good things to say about the place. Everyone was so nice! The manager was great and very professional. I highly recommend it to anyone having a party. My friends and family thought I paid double of what I did. It is very affordable! Pros: The manager and waitstaff, parking and food. Cons: Little hard to find. Send maps out to your guests! more

Excellent Seafood 11/10/2005

I have been going to this restaurant for years and think it is the best in Houston. I love the bread and cinnamon rolls they give you (they are very generous with them). The drink prices from the bar are outstanding and not a rip off like some of the other restaurants. The value is terrific and the fried stuffed shrimp are the best. They don't sell much dessert there because of the rolls but wow! Great place to hold a christmas party for your company. My brother was here from California and he couldn't believe the food and what you got for the price. Got to go there to believe it. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Price Cons: Too far away, Stairs more
