Really good food, HORRIBLE service. 7/19/2009

We went there on a Sunday night. Maybe that was the problem. We also didn't get there til 9 pm. Either way, as someone else suggested, they ADD IN an 18% gratuity automatically. So, the wait staff makes absolutely NO effort to service you. You have to flag them down to get another beer or some more ranch dressing. The food was indeed fabulous but overpriced. I can't stress enough how crappy the service was. Once they sat us at our pool side table, it was fifteen minutes before someone came to take our order. Also, the men's restroom was disgusting. I'm just a good ole boy so I'm not some pretentious OCD guy. One toilet was overflowing with all sorts of excrement. The floor was flooded with about an inch of standing water all over the place. And it reeked. Needless to say, I'll never go back. Pros: Great stone crab, oysters, etc. Cons: The service is horrendous. more

Great Happy hour deals and specials 8/18/2008

They have a new ""New England Clambake"" special for 25$ on Wednesday nights from 6-10. You get a lobster, clams, peel and eat shrimp, potatoes, Clam chowder, and corn on the cob..its a great deal! I suggest going early because not only do they have a limited supply but the raw bar happy hour is great. the oysters on the half shell are very cheap and very fresh. The happy hour raw bar also has Peel and eat shrimp, clams, and stone crab claws. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The resident one man band is always fun to listen to. Pros: Fresh Raw Bar, Clambake special Cons: Can get hot sitting outdoors more

Good crab cakes, nice people, would go over and over again 4/22/2008

Very nice atmosphere, very intimate, very good food and very nice staff. The live band was excellent and I danced all just about all night. Even the other customers were very nice and friendly. I love the marina that sits next to the restaurant. I would tell everyone I know to visit Monty's when in town. My boyfriend and I looking forward to dining there again in Oct. 08. Try the crab cakes, they are the best!!!!! Pros: outdooring experience Cons: very crowded on friday and saturday night. more

great happy hour 4/17/2008

they have a great happy hour, the half off drinks and the raw bar. perfect combination, you can get four drinks, oysters, and a ton of shrimp for $26 including tip. not to mention if youre cute and friendly the guys definitely hook you up. amazing service and free parking! i highly recommend it, the atmosphere is great and super relaxing after work. however, i think theyre very overpriced when its not happy hour, so i dont go at night. Pros: great happy hour, free parking Cons: 18% tip included more

18% gratuity added and credit card overcharged! 3/24/2008

\r \r If there would be a zero-star rating ? Monty?s would truly deserve it. \r \r If it wouldn?t be for their great locations in Sobe and Coconut Grove, I doubt that Monty?s would still be in business. Their mediocre food is overpriced and their service leaves much to be desired for. \r \r Despite of that, they impose a mandatory 18% gratuity, and expect you to tip on top of that. Moreover, they overcharged my credit card twice, so I no longer believe that this is an honest mistake. \r \r Unfortunately, it appears that Monty?s has finally completed its transition from a great hangout to a tourist trap. It?s a rip-off.\r \r Pros: stunning water front Cons: overpriced food, lazy service, 18% gratuity added, credit card overcharged more

Horrible service. Over priced food. 2/21/2008

Service is horrible view is good. The first time I went there my wife and I had a bad experience. I tried to go again and had a bad experience again. It should be illegal to automatically charge 18.5% for gratuity especially when you are ignored by the wait staff. They charge gratuity automatically on everything. Food was over priced for what you received. I would not recommend this place Pros: View Cons: Service, food more

We ate outside and I've had better food in school cafeterias... 8/7/2007

Don't eat outside if you want something edible. And our Eastern Bloc waitress only smiled when she handed us a check which had 18.5% gratuity due to our party size. I asked our party if I was bold enough to deduct 8.5% from the bill based on her attitude and speed, but thought it best to let it go.\r So, please wake up people and don't perpetuate a bad thing!\r Pros: Beautiful views Cons: Food was prison quality (if I knew what prison food was). more

TACKY 2/27/2007

Monty?s is one big disappointment. My boyfriend and I went on a Wednesday night, looking for a place to hang out with good seafood. Unfortunately, the food was not tasty, fulfilling, or fun. You end up spending more money to compensate for that lack of fulfillment. The mediocre service was provided by a waitress who was allergic to seafood (what the hell?) The food was served on paper plates with plastic silverware--cafeteria style. The live island music was on a small stage that was not loud enough to hear from our seats. We must have been paying for a waterfront view that really wasn?t worth it either. Don?t subject a date or friends to that same disappointment. Just say no to Monty?s. more

It will make you happy 2/19/2007

I have spend a considerable amount of time in the South Forida area and I always enjoy going to Monty's Raw Bar. It is a casual and fun environment that makes you feel relaxed and ready to enjoy all of the excitment that South Florida has to offer. more

Nice ambience 11/8/2006

This is the place to go for a refreshing night. You don't need to be dreesy, the place is great, food is serve promptly and is really good. Pros: Everything! more

Great views 10/18/2006

I like this place. I go there mostly for the view and the atmosphere. I like how casual and relaxed it is. And, the live music is nice. \r \r I recommend going during Happy Hour... it has pretty good frozen drinks, but they are small and cost like $7 -- the Happy Hour deal is much more reasonable. \r \r The food is good. I don't think you leave feeling ripped off or grossed out, but at least I go there primarily for the atmosphere and view. Pros: Great water views, live music, lots of fun. Cons: Food is okay, but not spectular; it can get pretty packed; service is lame sometimes. more

18% Gratuity added 3/3/2006

18% tip was added for party of two at the bar. The poor bartender probably would have gotten about 25% from me. Closest bar to my house and I will never return. Shame. This place ruled in the 80's Pros: awsome view, beautiful bartenders, great food Cons: 18% tip added for 2 more

Old Florida, another one bits the dust! 2/10/2005

Once upon a time in the heyday of Miami circa 1980`s Monty Trainers and the Grove were the place to Be and Be Seen. Monty`s was very casual and laid back. Great place to watch Football games and score with the babes. The food was always great bar fare! During the 90`s Montys goes in another direction. They try to copy Joe`s. Guess what? The place flopped, the regular cliental was forced to leave and the Food along with the service leaves Mucho to be desired. Pros: good parking more

Raw deal on the water 1/1/2003

When my wife and I went into the restaurant, no one came to help us until we started to walk around and a passing waiter said sit anywhere. Notices are posted that 18% gratuity is included in the total bill so the staff works to minimally please diners. We ordered 6 oysters that tasted great so we asked to make it a dozen. Our waiter told us he would charge for the 2 halves and when we asked if there was any way to avoid this, he came back to us saying the manager said no. The drinks are small and expensive ($7 per disposable plastic cup). Twenty minutes after my wife and I finished eating, I had to wander around the restaurant to find our waiter who was hanging out with the rest of the staff. This was on a Saturday night @ 8pm; there were empty tables everywhere. Pros: outdoor Cons: expensive $100 for 2, slow service, uncomfortable chairs more

3 words: STONE CRAB CLAWS 11/30/2002

If you have yet to have them, you simply MUST! And this is an excellent place to indulge! Also the She Crab soup is decadent. Pros: Great Value, View more

dine w/o people tripping 7/30/2002

If dining in the open air is what thrills you;if good food interest you, this is your place,as brother Brigham said. You aren't stared at by the passing hordes of euros and touristas. You get great music at certein times.Schedule your arrival just before the performances. You aren't treated in a surly manner by the wait help if you don't run up a huge bar tab.I go to eat, enjoy the music and the bay.I and my party can eat enough to justify my seat rental.I have been hare about 6 times and enjoyed it each time. Pros: fresh air, good vibes and sounds, fresh, good food Cons: timing is vital, check the wind direct, parking can be prob. more
