The chicken tasted like it was concentrated. The beef was mushy. The total of the bill was $17. On a good note the wait staff was excellent. more

I wouldn't call this "authentic" Mexican, but it is really good. The chips and salsa arrive at your table really quickly and they have GREAT drinks, from beer to margaritas. Their food is pretty good, again not necessarily authentic Mexican but good nonetheless. It does get crowded but they seem to move people in and out fast enough that you don't have to wait long, and when you are waiting you can always have a good marg! The prices are a little high for Mexican but overall it's a great place to go. more

Agreeing with the other posters, there's definitely better Mexican food out there. That being said, Monterrey is decent, the salsa has a spicy, fresh flavor, and you get large portions in the entrées. My most recent trip had me ordering pitchers of their raspberry margaritas too, which again, weren't the best, but got the job done. more

Monterrey's isn't my favorite Mexican restaurant in the world (yet it is one of my best friend's favorites!) but it does the trick when you're in the mood for Mexican food at a sit-down restaurant. It's a little over priced in my opinion and the chips and salsa are a tad on the salty side, but the outdoor patio in the summer is fun and you can't beat the SPEED at which the food is brought out. It's shocking how quickly they prepare food and bring it to your table! Perfect for people with children. Oddly enough, their margaritas consistently give me a stomachache and I'm not alone - the same thing happens to a friend of mine. But this won't keep me from going back…it will just keeps me from ordering that particular drink! One money saving option my boyfriend and I discovered was to split the fajitas. It worked out perfectly - plenty of food for both of us and cheaper than buying two meals (sounds cheap, I know, but remember, the menu is over priced in my opinion!). Just ask for an extra plate of sides, rice, and beans and you'll be all set! more

Monterrey's is a very good mexican restaurant. They have of course the complimentary salsa and chips, which are very tasty -- not too salty! There is a full bar, which is great when you are in Royal Oak. The place is very big and the service is good. However, on a weekend, the place can get very busy. more

Monterrey Cantina is very energetic, fun filled place to meet up with a group of friends after work and enjoy the food and some Margaritas. The food is tasty and you can order many different flavors of drinks. It is a relaxing, yet fast paced restaurant. They have some outdoor seating as well. more
