Best

If you love rich, old school Southern food - and don't mind family style - then you must try this place. They have great fried chicken, fried okra, biscuits and incredible corn...

Worst

In short: hell. I could only have been more miserable if they hired children to run around with squirt guns. OK, it wasn't THAT bad. Country-style family dining atmosphere. Corn ...

Good Southern Food!!! 10/19/2004

I was visiting Nashville for a 4 day weekend. I ate at Monells 2 of those evenings and again on Sunday before I got on my plane to fly home! The food is absolutely delicious! I love the way you're seated at a large dining room table and you pass the bowls of food around. It allows you to socialize with people that you normally would not hold a conversation with. I truely enjoyed dining there. If I am ever back in Nashville, guess where one of the first places is I'll be found eating!!!! Monells!!!! Pros: good value for price , homey atmosphere, friendly staff!!!! more

Ladies (or men), want to stop cooking? 10/10/2004

Monell's is good rather you are there for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Whenever we have out of town guests or family, we always take them to Monell's...and when they return, they ALWAYS request to go back! Great family oriented restaurant in a time when it is GREATLY needed! ...and don't miss Victorian Christmas. We sit around & eat then sing Christmas Carols with the carolers. It is just wonderful! We will see you again this year with more friends & family! Thanks Michael! You have really hit the jackpot!!! Pros: Great Food, Good value, Warm atmosphere more

Good Southern cookin' 7/26/2004

Our Instructor at a training class took us here. The food is great! It was some of the best cornbread I've ever had. You have to pay attention on 6th to make sure you don't pass it and you must park on the street. But, it's worth it! Pros: Food, Service Cons: , busy more

The best place on earth 6/23/2004

I go to school in Nashville, and I take every person that comes to visit me to this place. The last time I was there, they had these heavenly sweet potatoes mixed with fried apples. Not only is the family style setup a refreshing way to dine out in the city, it reminds me of meals my Grandma makes back in KY. This place is a must for anyone visiting Nashville. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, The South more

Yum ! 6/12/2004

What a wonderful, friendly, special place to enjoy a delicious meal with friends and new friends that you will meet during the meal. A great niche' for visitors to our town as well as all of us who live here! Pros: friendly, great food, wonderful atmosphere more

Unless you're a snob, you'll love it! 7/20/2003

If you're counting your fat calories here, you're missing the point! The best Southern food I've ever had. The family-style seating is a great way to meet new people and gets tips on where to find authentic food. Everything was obviously prepared from scratch, and all of it was well seasoned and delicious -- including many vegetable dishes I would never eat at home. Country steak with mushroom gravy and BBQ short ribs were both fantastic. They even had unsweetened tea for Northerners, although the bread pudding was too sweet. Pros: Great food, Victorian house, Value Cons: Limited dinner hours more

Upscale Meat and Three.... 6/5/2003

with family style seating, freindly service, and great ambiance this is a jewel of a find in Germantown. Pros: Value Cons: Parking more

Not me 2/4/2003

Some people seem to enjoy eating mediocre, high fat foods having very limited choices, and an emphasis on quantity instead of quality. Not me Some people like sitting at a table with total strangers eating out of cheap plastic serving pieces and sitting in uncomfortable chairs. Not me Some people don't mind being treated rudely by the owner and ignored by the wait staff. Not me. Some people like Monell's. Not me. Pros: quantity, homestyle, moderate price Cons: few choices, rude, mediocre food more

Make new friends 1/26/2003

I like the country seating style. The food is good if not exceptional and there is plenty. If you are a picky eater, this is not the place for you as you don't get to choose, you get what there is. Good ol country style table full of food. A fun and differnent place to have lunch with friends old and new. Pros: Reasonable price, Meet new friends, quick service more

New Monell's is Disappointing 1/14/2003

We rejoiced when Monell's openmd its take-out store on Trousdale Drive. Our first expericne was promising if not quite up to Monell's high standard. The latest trip was a big letdown. The meatloaf was covered in chili sauce (and most unappetizing) and the texture was mushy. The sides were also below standard: pinto beans were overcooked and gummy, the greens were vinegary, and corn pudding was too sweet. Pros: cheap, good service, convenient Cons: mediocre food more

Breakfast!!! 12/8/2002

I can't believe Monell's did not win best breakfast. Brunch on Saturday is a great way to start your weekend. more

Wonderful! 11/7/2002

Monell's is a great place to eat! The food is wonderful, and the atmophere is so unlike any other place in Nashville! more

You want great food? 10/28/2002

Yeah, the food rocks, the people are great - but the catering is fantastic! (Even when it's the fancy stuff, not the restaurant fare . . .) Pros: food, fun, service Cons: parking more

Start Saturday Morning Hungry?? 10/21/2002

If you did, you may want to just head on down to Monell's, where they'll feed you til you cain't eat no more! Have been to 6th Ave locale several times for the Saturday breakfast (have to admit, never done lunch or dinner there, so my review may be biased), and always ALWAYS impressed. The kitchen staff bringing out food is super-friendly, the waitresses businesslike in the yo-mamma-don't-take-no-lip kind of way, and the food is YUMMY. You won't walk away disappointed or hungry-- between home-cooked bacon and country-style ham (THICK-sliced), endless rounds of scrambled egg, corn pudding to die for, super-cheesy cheese grits, and piping hot southern-style biscuits, steaming and delivered right to your table from the stove, we've decided Monell's is THE Saturday breakfast spot in Nashville. Not sure if Monell's does breakfast other days, but the family-style Saturday is NOT TO BE MISSED!!! We love it. Pros: LOTS of FOOD, Euro/Family Dining, WONDERFUL, FRESH food Cons: sometimes a wait more

tastes like chicken 10/1/2002

If Monell's is good enough for Luvell Glanton, it's good enough for you! It offers a great homestyle atmosphere suitable for a family dinner without messing up the kitchen. The staff is great at Southern Hospitality. If you don't get enough to eat, it's your own fault! Pros: chicken, inexpensive Cons: cole slaw more

go for the fish 9/17/2002

Some of the food at Monell's is average, I'll admit, but I must say that the blackened grilled catfish is worth the trip in itself. I crave this stuff, you don't know what you're missing if you've never tasted it. Monell's is an experience like no other, very down home and cozy - make sure to save room for a homemade biscuit...or 2...or 5! Sample all the sides before deciding, some are definately mediocre but others are worth the meal in itself! more

Mouth-watering food! 9/4/2002

I love Monell's food! It is some of the best food to put in your mouth. It is like going to Grandma's on Sunday for dinner! Pros: Food is always fresh!, Tastes good!, Country cooking! Cons: Don't have any! more

the southern dinner table 8/7/2002

The best old style cooking in Nashville!!! This is the place to take all of your out of town guests for Sunday Brunch. The sweet tea alone will make you slap your Mama!!! more
