Momiji Japanese Red Maple Restaurant

The experience I am writing about took place in 2000, at which time the restaurant had moved to a strip mall on Seltice Way and was run by a woman calling herself ""Ruth."" She is the focus of this review. My late husband and I LOVED to eat at Momiji. The sushi was fresh and of highest quality. We'd get there at 4 pm, right when it opened, to avoid the crowds. It's also happy hour. The first time we went in for happy hour, we were drinking 24-ounce Sapporo drafts. As it neared 5 pm, Ruth came to tell us to order again before time ran out. My husband said, ""What, you mean happy hour is only from 4-5 o'clock?"" Ruth looked indignant and said, ""Okay mister,"" in her broken English, ""It call happy OW-WA! No happy afternoon! No happy day! It happy OW-WA!!!!!!!"" So, we had her bring us each about 3 more and settled in for the duration. I still laugh every time I think of it! I'm sorry to hear that the food has gone down so much in quality. We're from San Diego and know great sushi, and this used to be as good as you could get in San Diego, Newport Beach, San Francisco, or Seattle. more

It's been around 5 years ago....never been back, of course. Very low grade sushi. Bad service. Not a good ambiance whatsoever. Pros: Not far from our home. Cons: Got sick from the sushi, bad service, bad ambiance...just bad! more

There is only one Sushi chef for the entire Sushi restaurant. Needless to say it takes over an hour to get the Sushi, then half and hour to an hour for the rolls. I will not return. I love Sushi, but I will be searching for a more relaxing atmosphere that offers better customer service. Pros: Sushi was o.k. Cons: terrible service, slow service, no customer service more
