Before coming to MSDC, I'd never trained BJJ before. The well-structured classes (take a look at the schedule if you haven't already), with accessible timing even for a full-time student, made it easy to start. The people, attitude, and level of instruction make it easy to stay.
The best things about MSDC, in no particular order:
1. The students--a wide range of experience, from several years to just a few weeks.
2. The attitude. As surprising as it may be, I have yet to meet a single jerk at MSDC--and I've been around long enough now that I'm beginning to think I never will. It's an open environment structured around learning and proper technique, not aggression and blind pursuit of winning.
3. The instruction. Chris, the head instructor, can only be described as an exceptional teacher. Sure, he's also a phenomenally skilled practitioner of a mind-boggling variety of martial arts, but he's also an amazing teacher. He knows why techniques work--he doesn't just demonstrate them and demand repetition. It makes for a great learning environment, and rapid skill development.
