nasty staff and owner is a jerk 9/24/2011

the staff is aloof at best and inattentive. the owner is a jerky snob. their store cannot accommodate a saturday and the customers are left to fight for a fitting room. I paid over $300 for a dress and was charged over $75 for alterations. they are rude and snobbish and pushy as hell. would never recommend them and will never use them again more

Very disappointed with the customer service. 8/20/2010

I really can't think of anything positive to say in regards to my experience at Modern Bride. My best friend is getting married so I made an appt. for a Saturday to go to the store and order the dress she picked out. Upon arrival I waited 25 minutes past my appt time. Once someone was able to see me, my measurements were taken at the register in front of the busy Saturday morning crowd of customers and I was told my deposit was due. Then I was informed that my dress would be ordered when all the bridesmaids had been in. I was never offered to see or try on the dress, though one of other bridesmaid did get to see and try on the sample when she went? It would have been nice to see what I was buying. Months go by and the dress comes in.The bridesmaids are told that we get a free press and hem with the purchase. To make an appt for the press, hem & any needed alterations when you work 9-5, M-F was a true effort in itself, I was being offered 2 and 3pm fittings after I told the staff I worked 9-5. Saturdays were completely unavailable. The seamstress I met with made me feel very rushed. The dress was super tight so I asked her to take an inch out on each side. Upon getting the dress after the alterations it was apparent that I didn't get what I (pre)paid for. The dress was exactly the same. After comparing my dress to that of the smarter bridesmaid who refused to pay Modern Bride's prices for her alterations, it was obvious my dress was not let out, they just removed the boning in the side. The other bridesmaid compared her unaltered dress to mine (along with a dressmaker/seamstress) only to see that along the vertical seems of the dress from the arm pit to the hips, the extra fabric that one would use to let the dress out had horizontal cuts in it making it impossible to have the dress let out. When I called them about the alterations paid for I was told that I was wrong.I told them that all 3 dresses we had at that moment all had the horizontal cuts the manager became condenscending and refused to acknowledge that more

BUYER BEWARE!!!! 9/10/2009

If you should decide to purchase a dress keep your eyes wide open!!! What they"neglact" to tell you is that many of the in stock dresses have the designer name either stamped or embroidered right on the dress. At my fitting my friend noticed the word "sample" embroidered at the hem when once hemmed would have shown. The problem was corrected but it wasn't until we made the seantress(owner)take some letters out for proof it would not be noticeable.I was told I could order another dress-or have it hemmed to tea length.I had already paid for the dress and my son's wedding was 2 weks away. She could have cared less that I was unhappy. At the final fitting the owner was there and he too never checked to see if all was fine.I expected better customer service. This was a sample (free)dress for them-an expensive dress for me.I would never go back nor recommend them and their customer service leaves much to be desired. more

Modern Bride & Formal Shop 3/16/2006

Mixed review here. I recently went here and bought shoes to wear in my best friend's wedding. Out of the numerous bridal shoe shopping I have done in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, they BY FAR had the best shoe prices. If I had bought my own wedding shoes here rather than the shop I chose in Rhode Island, I would've saved $20. However, my shoes arrived in the wrong color, which turned out the be the shipper's fault not MB. MB then quickly fixed the problem with a new order. So, I give a good review on shoes. However, their tailoring services were pricey. To have my dress sized there would have been $20 more than my local seamstress from MA. The sizing consultation is free - just make sure you get the estimate before you hand over your credit card. more
