Used to be Danken's 8/6/2006

I just LOVED Danken's, and it was great when my old roommate worked there. Free ice cream, until she turned mean. Oh well. This is still a fantastic place for ice cream - it's been here longer than most Ave establishments (used to be Danken's). Very young-college-kid-esque, but damn good ice cream. My kids love it. We go here after we hit Pagliacci's. Great memories from when I was in college. I used to find out what was going on all over Seattle just by going here and reading the posters. Of course, that was before the internet LOL. more

College food staple 4/8/2006

Cereal. Check. Diet Coke. Check. Booze. Check. The Mix ice cream. CHECK! The Mix ice cream parlor is a great Ave. tradition enjoyed by locals and students alike (drunkards and potheads included). Choose from the eight ice cream flavors and then add in a smorgisboard of toppings ranging from classic sprinkles to TWIX bars. If you get lucky, you might even be able to mix in the toppings yourself behind the counter. Great prices, great ice cream. Next time you're in need of a sugar buzz, brave the lines and eat some truly customized ice cream. more

Cant Get Enough of It!!!! 3/10/2006

"I'll take the chocolate ice cream with peanut butter cups mixed in please. No wait, the butterfinger and fudge." This is NOTHING like coldstone. The Mix has its own aura and the ice cream is completely different. It may look scroungy on the inside but the service and ice cream is well worth the wait. I haven't been to Coldstone since I discovered this place. The best part about it is that its open really late! I highly recommend this place if you looking for a late night treat. more

A unique ice cream parlor 2/18/2006

So, you've done sprinkles, dipped cones, sauces and all that - what makes this place different? You get to design your own treats - and they mix the treats you pick into the ice cream (hence the name)! This adds greatly to the variety you can get, as well as just spicing up that hot summer day's cone with something new. What other reviewers don't seem to have mentioned is that this place is a local must-visit spot on the Ave for anyone living in the area - according to a friend who works there, sometimes new student tour guides even bring groups of new UW students there while showing them around! I think everyone who has been in the U-District for more than a month knows this place. more

I Scream, you scream, we all scream le icecream! 10/23/2005

The mix is a hip, funky spot, that is enjoyed mostly by the UW students. The icecream is delicious (they have many flavors), toppings/mix-ins are delightful, and the people are funky and enjoyable! It is a no care, laid back atmosphere that is cheap and delicious. It is open pretty late so it is a great place for a study break that offers so many different combinations of flavor! more

make your own ice cream creation!! 10/21/2005

this is one of my FAVORITE places in seattle, although strangely enough its also one of the places that i try to stay away from!! mix ice cream bar is an ice cream lovers dream come true!!!!!!!! beginning with one of five or six base ice creams or frozen yogurts you can add in anything and everything from oreo cookies to gummi bears, caramel sauce, real fruits, etc etc.. there must be a million combinations, including the specials they have created themselves. yum yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

reminds me of Ben and Jerry's 9/13/2005

I love Ben and Jerry's ice cream, and you know what...the Mix reminds me of just that...sometimes even better. A small shop on the Ave right off 45th, this is a place you've gotta go. It's a wee bit expensive, but the price can be offset by coupons from the survival guide. My favorite is the raspberry and brownie mix in! If you visit too often you'll probably get fat, but you know, if you get fat at least you've enjoyed yourself! more

Yummy 8/24/2005

Not the greatest place in the world if you are trying to watch your waistline, but it's a nice treat. The various flavors are unique and the ice cream is fabulous. It's a cool setup they have, and the staff is nice and helpful. I recommend to anyone looking for a great dessert joint. more

make your own flavor! 8/22/2005

This place is great! You choose your own mix-ins to go with ice cream/yogurt/sorbet. While I love the options for new flavors, I always seem to stick to the same combination, but I always leave happy. This place is much better than the other chains with the same gimmick-- better ice cream, staff, pricing, and quality. more

The Mix is sooooo good 8/22/2005

The Mix is really a UDistrict staple. They now accept cash or husky card, a recent development in the last year or two. The mix offers 6 or so flavors of ice cream and perhaps 30 or 40 different mix-ins. It's cheaper and better than Coldstone Creamery, and also locally owned. Coupons for two free mix-ins (a $1.20 value) are available in the Survival Kit booklets at the Ubookstore at the beginning of every quarter or on the Survival Kit website. They also have gift certificates - a great present idea for a UW student. more

good ice cream 8/5/2005

The Mix is a nice ice cream shop on the Ave in the U District. If I remember right they didn't have a huge selection of ice cream flavors, but the quality was good. The main feature is the things you can choose from to mix into your ice cream. It's a nice place to stop in for some ice cream on a hot day. more
