Lots of good stuff 4/1/2011

My wife and I spent a summer in Japan several years ago to visit friends who had moved there and when I come to Mitsuwa, it reminds me of the grocery stores in Japan. We were introduced to a lot of Japanese dishes and now when it's Japanese food night, we come here to get our food supplies. I really like the quality of rice you can find here, compared to the white rice you find at the local grocery chains. Yes, prices for most of the items you're going to buy are going to be kind of expensive but I think it's worth it. The store is clean and we're always finding new things to try when we cruise down each aisle. I wish there were more english translations though, as sometimes, we skip over things since we don't know what they are, lol. more

mitsuwa great for curious eager to learn americans 1/17/2010

there is also a japanese media store inside mitsuwa where you can also find many caucasian white americans that shops at the media store even though they can't speak or read japanese but indeed fascinated with japanese technology and entertainment media ,and still learning more about japanese culture leading to be japanized in america. Pros: nice place Cons: none more

Freshest Sushi!! 2/27/2008

Had the best tuna rolls at Matsuwa! I find myself having cravings for their sushi! But I don't live in the area! It's a must to and walk around! So many different foods, and really fun just to look around and see what they have! A great Saturday afternoon outting! Pros: Good Sushi! Cons: Most eveything is in Japanese more

Like being submersed in another land 11/23/2006

This place is great! The produce is super fresh & half the time I have no idea what it is, but it's fun to try all the different fruits and vegetables you won't see everyday elsewhere. The selection of seafood is really incredible because they have many selections that you wouldn't normally see. Though, the Sushi & Sashimi grade fish is rather over priced for how small the piece is which is disappointing because we have been wanting to try & make our own rolls for some time. There are so many different types of noodles down one asle, another might have ton's of different spices and oils. The snack asles are bursting with candies and other goodies. The food court is a bit daunting because it's mainly in Japanese (& a Korean restaurant) with minimal descriptions in English. The prices are in both languages, and every place does have ready made plates out so you can just pick what looks like something you might want to try. Everyone seems to be friendly and willing to answer questions, though a few might not have the best English skills. All in all its really worth the trip because it is a fun place to visit while shopping and then grabbing a bite to eat. Pros: great selection, quality, service Cons: might be some language barriors from speaking to packaging more

Japantown is in Arlington Heights! 7/7/2005

Mitsuwa is in the middle of a diffuse Japanese community in the Arlington Heights area. The bulk of the store is a Japanese grocery store and food court. Then there are several other small stores in the Mitsuwa building, including a bookstore, video rental, china shop (which my mother loved), and a Japanese themed anime/toy shop. They have take-out sushi. Sometimes I'll come across a real geek find here-- in the bookstore they were selling region free Toshiba DVD players-- imported, not modded-- that could play Japanese and American DVDs. I also found a listing for a muiltifamily Japanese garage sale (moving back) on a bulletin board there (in Japanese) and I went there and bought some nice dishes. Pros: Variety of goods, Access to imports, Fresh fish more
