Mission of Deeds stepped up to the plate and allowed me to provide a home run for a young man who lost everything months after Hurricane Katrina devasted his life, home and neighbor's lives. This young man spent three days on his rooftop waiting to be rescued while elderly neighbors on either side of him perished because they could not gain access to their rooftops when the levies breached.\r \r When he arrived in Everett with only the clothes on his back,he was able to procure housing. Numerous people offered help to settle him into his new community and Mission of Deeds was contacted to help furnish the bare apartment. Not only was a complete furniture set up provided but items down to linens and kitchen utensils were donated. A truly one stop operation that gave a lot of satisfaction to many people bent on helping this young man.\r \r His life has moved on- married a local gal he met while living here -has a small girl and moved back to live near North Carolina....Each year I receive a phone call thanking me for the help others gave to him....keep up the good work!!!! more

great organization doing great LOCAL work 1/23/2010

I am another ""readingite"" who agrees 100% with the Jan 23, 2010 readingite review. I have had multiple experiences with Mission of Deeds over the past 20 years and have never had a bad experience. They are a well run, very organized group of people helping other people in our area. Just because ""as8284"" is ok with a worn, torn couch doesn't mean it is appropriate to give to others. Pros: all volunteer, helps local people in need Cons: limited pick up availability more

An incredible place 10/18/2009

I've volunteered at Mission of Deeds for a year now, and I've seen how powereful a new start can be to families in need. They provide beds, linens, kitchen goods, tables, chairs, sofas, all the basic goods that families might want for a new start in life, all at no charge to the clients. \r \r Clients are referred by various agencies. Most items are donated, and fortunately we live in an area where many very generous people have made it possible for this organization to exist. \r \r This place is wonderful. I've never worked anywhere that has been as inspirational as Mission of Deeds. more

strange, bad organization; try not to use 6/8/2009

AVOID this organization at all costs! I was told by a few people that the gentlemen they send to your house pick through all your things and only take the very best pieces. I just wanted to donate one couch with a couple of torn areas where my cats had gotten at it. It was fine for us for over two years. They told me after I confirmed with Bruce over the phone taht they would take it and use it. The guys get here and see the torn area and they say ""oh no we can't use this - our clients are poor but they have pride"". Really? So it was good enough for my wife & I and not good enough to give away? I've heard similar odd conclusions being drawn on perfectly good and useful furniture from other people - this organization is either lazy or they just have a strangely inconsistent philsophy as it pertains to giving. I was trying to do the right thing and didn't want so much as a tax write-off form; these guys kept a poor family from having a perfectly good couch. Very odd, strange behavior and extremely disorganized office. AVOID. Cons: Disorganized, Poor service, inconsistent philosophy more
