A Well-Kept Secert 8/17/2006

I'm not a critic or an resturant go-er, who would write reviews, but I found this place to be great!! I wanted to have a quite dinner with my girlfriend. And it was more then i asked for. The reviews people left was excellent, and helpful! I enjoyed my stake dinner which i hoped was bigger. But, boy was it thick and juicy!! I enjoyed every chunk of it!! \r \r I went on a Thursday, and I missed out on the belly dancers along with the bands! But that only makes me want to go again on the weekend! Hope you see you there!! Pros: Food, Service overtoped it all! Cons: Store was a bit hard to find more

Best Kept Secret in Brooklyn 8/3/2006

My boyfriend and I just stumbled upon Miriam's early on a Friday night. We were inticed by the specials listed on the board outside- and we quickly found the place to be everything we expected and more! The waitress was very knowledgeable and gave us excellent recommendations. The menu was unique and hard to choose from. I highly recommend the Mediterranean Salad--diced avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers, feta, and pine nuts, wrapped in grilled eggplant strips. Delicioso! The lamb chops are to die for, and the striped bass was interesting and pleasing to the taste buds. Large portions and reasonable prices for the quality that accompanies the exciting taste and experience that is Miriam! Pros: Large portions, great food, distinct wine menu more

disappointment 7/30/2006

The fish dishes were overcooked but tasty and interesting. We enjoyed the chopped salad but the meal itself lacked the frrrrresh seasoning and wasn't as good as the one we had on our last visit. we were the only couple in the restaurant and the vibe was kind'a strange. what's with the bar lights? Pros: cool jazz Cons: strange more

Fun place for a group 7/28/2006

Seven of us met for dinner and we all ordered different things and not a single meal was a disappointment. The fish dishes were the best, seasoned perfectly with interesting and tasty side dishes. We loved the white bait appetizer. The drinks at the bar before dinner were a highlight. The bartender seemed genuinely happy to have us there and he was easy on the eyes,,, Pros: fish dishes were amazing, great bartender Cons: chocolate bar across the street makes dessert unnecessary more

wonderful brunch! 7/2/2006

i have eaten at Miriam's a few times for brunch and it is always great. the food and the service is above par. the waitress (i have had the same one each time) is always very attentive. the food is also very good, especially many of the egg dishes. it is a very welcoming place where you can relax on a saturday or sunday morning. Pros: great service, great price for the Slope more

I take it all back! 4/18/2006

Well, most of it. Yes, the first experience I had was horrendous (probably just one of those nights), but my boyfriend and I received a personal invitation to come back to alter our initial opinion. We did and we enjoyed it. The server was friendly and knowledgeable. The braised veal was tender and succulent. The kugle, he said, was on par with his mothers recipe. For a time we were the only people in the restaurant but we never felt rushed. We even asked for a break between entrees and desserts and she did it gladly. Thanks, Miriam, for a wonderful evening! Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly Service, Ambience more

too new 3/5/2006

We tried this place with a group of 6 last weekend after glowing reviews. It seems that many of the reviewers have dined in a near empty restaurant but it was completely full at 8pm on a recent Saturday. While friendly, the staff just couldn't juggle that many customers and the service suffered tremendously. After receiving only 2 menus for whole group, nobody came back for another 15 minutes. Our bottle of wine took another 15 to arrive and the appetizers took over half an hour. We got 4 glasses for the wine and were told that they ran out of clean glasses. The food was very good but the portions are pretty small, so while the prices are low, the place is not quite a bargain it seems to be. Pros: decor, lots of parking Cons: small portions, service more

ok, but 2/2/2006

Just came back from a Friday night dinner, we were the only people in the restaurant - the white bait is tasty, jerusalem bread is interesting, but not for $6 for three little pieces, the grilled halumi salad was fantastic though. What's most disconcerting is, despite the previous reviewers claims of a mega-friendly owner, we saw hide nor hair of anyone being friendly to us, again, as the only ones in the restaurant for more than an hour. We're good peoples too... Oh well, back to Villa Pizza or Song. more

Divine! *** 1/3/2006

I have ventured in on two separate occasions - found the cuisine, staff & ambience are consistently impressive but disappointed that the place is a bit thin on the patron aspect. I enjoy a place with a bit more live action and wondered where everyone was. I saw them all at the other usual places as I walked my way over from 3rd St-- I suppose most folks find that if they go beyond South Paw they are going into unknown terrain. Back to the cuisine Yes! the Jerusalem bread is light, airy, sprinkled w/ Middle Eastern panache--along with a nice spicy full bodied red from Israel is outstanding. Your palate will be wowed with a brave French cuisine w/warm enticing earthy elements. Pros: Relaxing, Welcoming, Affordable Cons: Off the beaten path, too quiet more

You MUST try MIRIAM'S!!! 10/25/2005

I LOVE this restaurant! It is an excellent addition to 5th Avenue's restaurant row and worth the visit to Brooklyn. Miriam's has wonderful ambience, excellent wines, creative and delicious food. This is not your typical middle eastern restaurant...Miriam's serves sophisticated, contemporary and delicious cuisine with excellent flavor combinations. We love the appetizers like Jerusalem bread, amazing butternut squash and the mediterranean salad. Carnivores, fish lovers and vegetarians will all find fabulous options. 2 favorites are the porkchops & the baked tahini grouper. Brunch is also great! You should definitely try Miriam's you won't be disappointed!! Pros: Ambience, Inexpensive, Delicious more

Try it!!! 10/14/2005

Was walking on 5th ave with a group of friends & we decided to eat at Miriam for no reason but out of hunger. There was hardly anyone inside, but the place had a cozy morroccan vibe that made you want to decorate your house like it. I had the eggplant salad--it was to die for!!! Also ate the dorado & it was amazing as well. My friend had the chicken shawarma & delighted in every bite of it. Another friend had the lamb kabob & said it was excellent and everyone agreed that the steak with sweet potatoe fries was phenomenal. The food was presented aesthetically and the waitstaff was attentive & friendly. The owner stopped by our table to converse for a bit & gave us a bottle of wine to try. He was a very nice guy & made our dining experience special. Pros: Unique food, Cozy atmosphere, Wonderful Owner more

An evening in the Sultan's tent... 8/22/2005

I was so impressed by Miriam. It's not the typical Mediterranean or Middle Eastern fare one might expect. There isn't one ball of falafel in the place! It's a creative mixing of all the delicious flavors and fragrances of the region into wonderful upscale cuisine. Everything was fresh, delicious and unique. The atmosphere is soothingly warm and exotic and to top it all off, there's entertainment: a wonderful little quartet playing earthy Middle Eastern music and a lovely belly dancer tastefully gyrating about. Even if you don't live around the corner (as I do) I think it's worth a trip. more
