Dine in elegance at Miraku. 1/24/2012

Every other month we treat ourselves for a night out of fine dining and Miraku is always our selection.\r Although I am not a big sushi eater (my partner eats it quite a few times a week) he raves about the quality and taste.\r My special tastes are the home made salad dressing (which is amazing), the new elegant whitefish, the scallops, dumplings and of course the wonderful saki selection. Not to mention the lovely tea.\r I feel like the owners are my friends when I walk in and the decor makes my heart sing. Such a lovely evening out for us. Thank you to all at Miraku San Ramon, Bridget and Ken.\r more

Mmmmm.... Sushi... 6/8/2009

I absolutely love sushi, so I go to several different places to try new things, but I always come back to miraku. The food is always great, and the service is top notch. I'm one of those people who drinks a ton of water with my meals and they always fill my glass before I can even think that I need more. I don't come regularly, maybe once every couple weeks at most, but they always remember me and make me feel like I'm right at home. I would highly recommend this restaurant!! more

The Best Sushi in the East Bay, Hands Down 7/15/2008

Having been to over 100 sushi restaurants throughout the world including some of the highest rated by Mobil and Zagat including Nobu in LV and NY, Maki in SF, and Sushi Yasuda in NY. This little classy restaurant is one of the best. Rated as the best sushi by Diablo magazine, you have got to try this gem. Although the service has always needed a little work, the food is imaginative, fresh and the selection is extensive. The fish is of the highest grade. The decor is wild and exciting and the owner changes the decor every season. Prices are high, but for what you get it is comparable to any sushi in SF. If you like good sushi, you cannot miss this. Pros: Great Specialty Rolls and the highest quality fish is used. Cons: Service has always been a little off. more

Absolutely terrible sushi 10/21/2006

My boyfriend and I ate at this restaurant last night and were completely disgusted with our food. The sushi was very very fishy indicating that it was not fresh at all. We only could take a few bites of the food before asking for our check...it was that bad! The California roll was the driest and fishiest tasting that I have ever had and when they brought over their ""famous"" Y2K roll it smelled like someone had just opened a can of tuna fish.\r \r We will NEVER go back to this restaurant! more

Overpriced and low quality Japanese Food 10/11/2006

My girlfriend and I visited for the first time and was extremely disappointed. We were very hungry and was far from satisfied when we left. First, the decor is confusing in itself. There is rainbow of neon lights, posters of a motorcyle business from the area, and elements resembling a restaurant from Star Trek. This is combined with waitresses in traditional Japanese garments. Second, the menu has your typically types of Japanese cuisine such as teriyaki chicken and tempura which is what we both had. We started with Maguro and Ebi. The fish did not taste absolutely fresh. Our chicken was served on fancy plates with tacky plate garnishes. The chicken was somewhat dry and tasteless. The tempura had some pieces that where hot and some that were cold. I've had much larger and better quality Japanese throughout the Bay Area. Third, the price was grossly high for the amount and quality of the food. To sum it up, if you want to go to a place with style and no substance than this is your place. If you want to experience good food at fair prices this is not the place. We experienced other places near by that surpass every aspect of this restuarant. Cons: decor, food quality, grossly high prices more

Pricy sushi made from low grade frozen fish. 8/18/2006

Customer service is this restaurant's greatest strength. Bright neon lights, balloons and odd figurines adorning the restaurant is far fetched from any other authentic Japanese restaurant I've been to. Most importantly, the fish used for sushi and rolls was fishy and waterlogged which indicated the restaurant used low grade frozen fish. \r \r Pros: Service Cons: Ambience, Sushi, Rolls more

Great service and great food. What else is there? 7/18/2006

I went for my 2nd time last night and ended up sitting at the sushi bar. Again, fish was fresh and delicious. The ""chefs"" were among the friendliest I've seen at a sushi bar. They were extremely helpful to a group of ladies sitting next to me and I definitely learned a thing or two. Highly recommend. Pros: Great food, great service Cons: It's 100 degrees outside when you leave for lunch! more

This is the best sushi you will ever have! 1/8/2006

I travel to Japan and Asia for work, and I can truly say that Miraku is my favorite place for sushi. Their sushi is always fresh and delicious, in fact my family and I go there at least once a week. Our sons cannot live without their crispy tuna rolls, and my wife and I love everything, especially the hot and happy roll, unagi and avocado roll, and the spider roll. The owners Jim and Sue are extremely welcoming and kind- we feel like family whenever we walk thru the door. You will not be disappointed in the food, the ambience, the service or the variety there. more

My Favorite Japanese Restaurant 12/21/2005

For us, fun starts when we enter and discover the beautiful, and sometimes whimsical, decor that changes with the season and holiday. We munch on peapods, while we pick our sushi or goyoza appetizers. The goyoza are similar to pot stickers, but with a more delicate wrapping are my favorite. The creative and fresh sushi often comes in wooden boats with colorful decorations. I like the white tuna and ebi, my wife prefers the tasty hamachi and maki. For our main meal, we like the fragrant shabu-shabu and sukiyaki (Japanese stews). Our other favorites include shrimp tempura and salmon teriyaki. These are served with the traditional miso soup, salad, and those wonderful Japanese pickles. As if this was not enough, we are often surprised with a sample of some unique sushi creation. Miraku is a warm, friendly, wonderful place with the best Japanese food in the East Bay. Pros: Food Presentation, Ambiance, Sushi Variety Cons: Parking more

Best Sushi anywhere 11/16/2005

I travel all up and down the west coast and quite a bit to New York and Florida. Miraku is by far the best Sushi that I can find anywhere. Miraku's fish is always fresh, the staff is beyond friendly and everytime I'm there I meet another loyal customer, the customers loyal to Miraku is simply amazing. My wife doesn't like to travel with me but she's willing to make the 5 hour drive whenever I tell her that we will go to Miarku every night. The staff is always very kind to my children. Finally, my customers love when I'm in town because they love when I take them to Miraku. Pros: Friendly Staff, Fresh Fish, Great Presentation Cons: only in San Ramon, not open Monday's more

magical 5/13/2005

The head chef how is also the owner goes above and beyond for the customers. Every few days if not daily jimsung is redecorating with fresh flowers. He focuses on every detail. And the sushi is so fresh it melts in your mouth!!!! I love the white tuna sushimi and the deep fried oyster hand roll. This location is not the owners as walnut creek or lafette. Pros: great sushi, always fresh more
