We had a dinner there last night with my 5 and almost 7 year old boys. It was such a nice surprise that the kids could run outside to the fountains to play, while we were waiting ...

I thought this would be a fun place to eat as I had heard so many great things about Portland's ""Mingo."" While the restaurant is nicely decorated and has decent service, the foo...

most nights great- when not- they correct it 10/20/2006

I usually order the rare tuna panini and when they have it the lemon tart. Both are absolutely great. I did have one instance wherethe tuna was overcooked- the wait staff were gracious and immediately brought me a rare tuna fillet. The ice tea is also excellent. Pros: excellent food and service Cons: prcey more

Great atmosphere, service, and food!! 9/18/2006

My wife and I decided to get on the MAX one evening and ride until we found a new place to eat. It was a very short trip. We stopped at Beaverton Central and checked out Mingo at The Rounds. It was great! The service was outstanding, and the waitress was able to recommend the perfect wine to compliment our food. There's indoor and outdoor seating, and the decor is very attractive. We were a little disappointed when we found out they were out of ravioli, but made up our minds to visit again when we heard the excuse....their pasta maker broke down, and they were waiting on a replacement...from Italy! Talk about authentic! If you're a fan of fresh Italian food, and you're tired of the franchise places, check our Mingo, and try the Caprese salad!! Pros: Convenient (right on the MAX line), friendly, great atmosphere Cons: Could be considered pricey ($40+ per couple) more

Worth the price? Not really. 7/30/2006

The location is nice and so is the outside dining area. However, ambience doesn't make up for the snooty service and overpriced dishes. The dinner ravioli plate was more like a lunch sized portion and cost $18. If you still want to give Mingo a try, stop by for lunch instead of dinner and save some money. Pros: Great outside dining area Cons: Slow service and overpriced more

Fabulous everything!!! 7/27/2006

This is truly one of the best Italian restaurants in the Portland metro area. The specials are always creative and tasty, and the service is awesome. Make sure to try the goat cheese and carmalized onion pizza, and the special raviolis and rissoto dishes are always a treat. Save room for dessert. The people who say that you don't get enough for the money have obviously never dined downtown. Mingo is a truly first rate establishment. Make sure to visit Monica in the bar for a cocktail She will start your night off with a big smile and a great drink. more

Good lunch location 5/21/2006

Excellent service generally, good salads, grappa, entres, and deserts. Limited beer selection and smaller portions. A good value. Sometimes parking is inconvenient. more

Am I the only one who hates this place? 4/7/2006

This is by far the worst place I've been in years. We took another couple here for dinner and left broke and very hungry. It all started when our waiter told us that the inexpensive wine wasn't good and if we wanted something worth while, we would select something from the mid to upper price range. Then we ordered ensalada caprese. Our waiter suggested we 'upgrade' to the group sized portion for the four of us. This wasn't on the menu but we went w/ it anyway. We had a few slices of cheese and approx 1 tomato for $18! Then we were on to really expensive, super small entrees. All in all, very disappointing. I'll never be back. If you do make the mistake of going, take a few extra dollars and head next door to Typhoon afterwards so you don't go home w/ your stomach growling. Pros: Next to Typhoon Cons: Small Portions, Really Expensive more

Nice Ambience, food and service no big whoop... 3/29/2006

Be aware that groups of 6 or more automatically have an 18% gratuity added. Wine list larger than menu, but few wines by the glass. Nate, our waiter, was less than attentive to our needs. Good cocktails like Italian Job and Guava Cosmos. Mingo serves bread with olive oil and balsalmic vinegar - but not enough for 8 people to dip their bread in. The risotto special was good, but hardly enough to fill one man's stomach; he wound up eating other's leftovers. One child's portion of pasta was larger than the adult's plate of pasta! My halibut had grilled peppers on top which were in reality, slimy. The halibut was nothing special, but the side potatoes and brussel spouts were delicious! Drinks and dessert would be the only reason to return for me - we loved the Boca Nera - flourless chocolate cake. Pros: Ambience, Cocktails, Dessert Cons: Few Wines by Glass, Pricey, Menu Selection Low more

Get over your fear of the suburbs for godsakes! 1/20/2006

I'm sick of hearing the tragically hip, prozac-deprived, gothic, city riff-raff wannabes whine about restaurants as great as Mingo showing up in the suburbs. Get over yourself and stop writing bad poetry!!! Thank goodness we all don't have to fight the traffic into Portland to have amazing food in the burbs. Mingo in Beaverton is a light in the fog. Try the lunch free range chicken with fall veggies. DIVINE. Everything works and it isn't a shame! For those who scoff -- clinicial depression is a diagnosis, see a physician! I'm headed to Mingo to breathe in the garlic and breathe out the irony. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Great food...great service! 12/11/2005

We went to Mingo on a busy Friday night. The food was outstanding, I had the signature penne with espresso chianti sauce - it was wonderful! My husband had the rib eye steak and thought that was wonderful too. Our server, Mat, was outstanding. He was very helpful and very friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We also had cocktails before dinner and those were excellent as well. Well done! Pros: great food, great service, good parking Cons: cool temp inside more

Great place, great food, heavy on the greenbacks 8/6/2005

Food was good. We had some of their original selections. It was nice to see that they did not just shovel out the same old dinner fair. Portions could have been larger for the money spent. Service was on par with most places. The patio is nice on a hot summers evening. Too bad there are not more places like this in Beaverton. Pros: good food, great outdoor seating Cons: a bit pricey more

It's ""Home Base"" 3/8/2005

As with most people around Portland, we like to try as many different restaurants and cuisines as possible. But, when it comes down to......we want a great meal, with great people, and great service, Mingo of Beaverton is ""Home Base"" for us. Not only is the food great, but so is the staff, and that makes a BIG difference in your dining experience! I kid you not when I say we have had dinner at Mingo and Cafe' Mingo 100+ times over the past 5 years. Yes! They really are that good! Jeff Van Damme Pros: Great food, Great Service, People the care more

Fantastic!! 2/22/2005

This is a great restuarant with great food! The atmosphere is so romantic with candles and low lighting. The service is fantastic, and so is the food. Everything from the bread to the dessert was wonderful! There is even a few pizzas on the menu for the less adventurous. We just went back again for the wonderful tiramisu and cocktails. This has become one of our favorites! Pros: authentic, romantic, great food Cons: pricy more

Highly Recommended 4/24/2004

Great food and excellent service. The decor is very hip and clean. Definitely a fun place to bring a date. Pros: good parking, attentive service, excellent menu more

A great find in Beaverton 4/20/2004

We have been fans of the original Caffe Mingo for many years and we also enjoy Mingo in Beaverton. On one of our visits in April, we were lucky enough to be able to sit outside and had a wonderful time. The food was great and the service was excellent. Although the atmosphere is very different from Caffe Mingo, it is still a gem and we love it! We will be back. On a side note, the review says that they don't take reservations but they do. Pros: Penne pasta, Mingo salad, Great bartender more

what a shame 4/20/2004

it's a shame that we're too much into the who's who of neighborhoods. I have to defend Mingo in Beaverton. This is the same Chef you've enjoyed the last 4 yrs at Caffe MIngo in NW Portland, same farmers provide the produce, isn't it a shame they're in Beaverton now. Please give me a break. Every neighborhood has it's time, it's Beavertons time. Typhoon and Mingo are in a league of their own out there and we shouldn't let the fact that their in Beaverton deter us from those 'flawless' meals we ejoyed for years. Shame on you... more
