Mill City Cafe

i started eating at this cafe a few years back just for brunch. i have recently started visiting the cafe for lunch and i am very impressed. the northeast cuban sandwich, in my opinion, is one of the best eats in town and their house made burgers are stellar as well. everything is reasonably priced, bordering on what i consider cheap for this quality of food. the service has always been efficient and friendly.. i recommend a visit, i bet you'll be back.. \r \r i almost forgot to mention that the breakfast is great and is offered during the week as well as the weekend. and for my girlfriend, they have a nice vegetarian selection of breakfast foods as well. more

You can't beat Mill City Cafe's menu; decently priced high quality variety. The mimosas are always perfect and the acoustic music on the weekends is always splendid. Great setting for flying solo, meeting a small group or just dining with your sweetheart. I recommend going earlier during their open hours; as it's easier to find a place to sit right away! Servers are always professional and attentive. Lots of interesting art to look at. We visited on Sunday for brunch. Since it was still nice out we sat on the patio as did everyone it seemed. They were busy for the time we stopped, but the service was still good. The place is cute and homey. The food was great. I had the mexican baked eggs and my friend had the california scramble, both of which were delicious and not to greasy. They serve the breakfasts with thyme roasted potatoes instead of hashbrowns which was a welcome change. They also have a full bar which is nice for a small cafe. I had a screwdriver which was served in a pint glass and was only $4.50, very welcome change to downtown prices. The servers, we had several check on us, were all easy going and friendly which fit the space well. All in all we had a great meal and experience and were glad we found this little treasure. We found this restaurant by accident - driving by to go to the Sample Room. Looked interesting and decided to stop in. Small space, interesting computer-parts art. Small menu, but the food we had (artichoke dip appetizer, crab cakes, and tofu curry) were all delicious. Artichoke dip was spicy, full of big artichoke heart pieces, and creamy. Crab cakes with lots of crab, virtually no filler. Prompt and attentive service. Too full for dessert, but we'll be back. Let's support these small neighborhood places! It looked like a cute little spot. Neat location and very exceptional art displays. The experience goes south when I decide to follow the ill given advice of a great brunch. We sat down and were greeted by a less than friendly waitress that spouts off some items that have run out, and walks away. I figure no big deal and then I look at the menu and find only 8 items on it. Every item included roasted potatoes as a side, (which they were out of), except the biscuits and gravy, (which they were out of the portabella mushroom gravy), and quiche(which they were out of), the only thing we could order on the menu as a normal item was the Cinnamon Wild Rice Pancakes, which actually sound good but I was way too upset to try. But not to worry we could order black beans to substitute for the roasted potatoes at ""no extra charge"". I know you are thinking I came to brunch right before it ended, but it was 12:45 and brunch went until 2;00. I understand people run out of food, but the waitress was very unapologetic and didn't offer up an apology or viable substitute. So we decided to leave, but the waitress didn't come back for ten minutes. So we left $10 on the table for the coffee, which probably gave her a very undeserved tip. Maybe if this place makes it past 2 years I will go back, but considering the experience I doubt it will. more

On a warm night - the patio is great, on a cool day inside is cozy. The food here has been great every time I have been here. I don't leave feeling greased-out (or should I say grossed out) and crappy like I do at a lot of Mpls. restaurants. Next to the Birchwood this is my favorite place to go for a good, healthy, reasonably priced meal. Plus, the staff here is very friendly and the live music is a really nice touch. I hope more people start eating here because I don't want to loose my new neighborhood spot. Pros: Good healthy food, easy parking, great atmosphere Cons: none so far more
