Michel Benaroch Hair Studio

I had some issues booking an appointment here. First I called and no one returned my phone call. Then I tried again and spoke to someone that I could barely understand who assured me I must see Michel because he is the best in san diego she said. I went in for my apt for a color and cut and he was 30 minutes late with no apology or previous notification that he was running late. His assistant seated me and asked me what color I wanted, I was a little taken aback because I thought I had an appointment with michel. I was telling her my hair issue when halfway through michel walked over and told her to go shampoo someone. He spoke to me very briefly and acted as if he were in a hurry. He came off very arrogant and I was never fully able to finish explaining my concerns. A different assistant applied my color, and again I felt like she was in a rush.Then, another assistant (3 different people) washed me and asked if I would like to pay 40.00 to have my hair blown dry! I told her I had scheduled a haircut with Michel and she said he was running behind and could not do my haircut today, but she would blow dry my hair for 40 dollars if I wanted to see the color. Honestly, It was a really weird salon experience. I had an appointment with michel and 3 people different people ended up doing me and not one of them was michel! I would have understood if they had notified me in advance that they were running behind but I felt like I was thrown in to a hectic situation without the option to refuse. I had a terrible experience at this salon. Michel Benaroch did My highlights personally. After the first visit I had to come back to have it corrected because it was not what I asked for. Not even close. I was very specific and even showed pictures. Now after my second visit, I came back to give him another chance, I am extremely disappointed. My highlights look terrible, it doesn't even look like I had my hair done and for these prices you really should love your hair. I would not recommend his services to my friends and I have been Gavin my hair highlighted for over 20 years. I frankly had better highlights done at the beauty school, sorry but it's true more

I got my hair done by Elana Haas a couple weeks ago and let me tell you I am more than happy. I am a single mother who has gone way too long without touching up my highlights and my hair was a mess! So much so that I even wore a hat to my appointment with Elana! She was so nice and did a great job, while making sure she gave me the best look with the least amount of maintenance! Thats exactly what a mom like me needs! I'll be sure to keep my highlights up now that she made it so low maintenance! When I found Sumika at Michel Benaroch Hair studio I was in a major hair disaster. I was blond but not a pretty blond someone at a previous salon had turned my hair paper white with dark ashy low lights. It was awful. Not to mention my hair was so damaged and breaking at the tips. Sumika worked me through what was the worst hair experience and between the color that she did ( she described it as a vegetable base glaze that adds shine) kerastase conditioning treatments, and routine trims she has really brought my hair back to life! I have been going to Michel hair studio for almost 2 years and absolutely love it! They use the best quality products there and Sumika is highly educated and is truly an artist! more

I am amending the review - as Michel did personally call me to see if he could fix my hair. Appreciate the personal touch. My last visit to the salon was in June. I'm still paying for the horrible color job. Sumika absolutely fried my hair with the highlight process and it is still breaking off. The cut wasn't much better. It looked like she just took a big chunk out of the back of it. She is a really sweet girl - but it is going to take a year for my hair to even begin to be healthy. What a disaster. more

I just fell in love with this salon. It's very cute and the whole staff does an amazing job with taking care of it's customers. I left with a completely new look with my hair. I also found out that they do hair and make up for special events. I will be getting married this December and I will have them do my hair and make up as well as my whole family. Very excited! Michel Benaroch has done hair for celebrities in Beverly Hills before opening his own place in San Diego. I heard that women would travel from SD to LA just to have their hair done by him!!!! Where do I begin? First, this is not about me, but my wife. She used to get her hair done in Beverly Hills by the stylists that did ""the stars"". And, it showed - she could have beautiful blonde hair that looked just like theirs. Sadly, we have had so-so results looking for that same type of artistry here in San Diego. My wife, a natural brunette, has gone blonde to brunette to blonde to brunette. She wanted to go back to blonde and met with a ""top rated"" stylist about going blonde again. This stylist said, ""well, it will be a pain in the ass, but we can do it if you want"". Oh, and by the way, it would take about a year. Needless to say, my wife did not proceed any further. When my wife found Michel Benaroch Hair Studio in the Santa Luz area of San Diego, she had a consultation and both Michel and Sumika were extremely professional and knowledgeable. Sumika was the stylist that did my wife's hair and it was special from the beginning - no attitude and no problem. It has been 3 weeks since my wife's first visit and her hair looks better than it has in years - at least since her days in a Beverly Hills salon. And, my wife loves going to the salon - it is decorated beautifully and the staff are extremely customer oriented - an overall A+ experience.
