Michael?s Paving did an adequate job on our driveway, a hack job on our wall, and have some of the worst customer service we?ve ever encountered in a local business. We had Michael's Paving put up a retaining rock wall along our driveway and repave the driveway - a fairly good-size job, since we have a long driveway. The workmanship on the wall is sub - par at best. They used excessive amounts of cement in between the stones, especially on the top of the wall which is level with the lawn. During the construction we expressed concern about the amount of cement being used in the stones and the appearance of the wall. The foreman of the job assured us he would make the top look great. The next day they completed the job, the majority of the stones used on the top of the wall were extremely small, some as small as 2 square inches and there is 6""+ of cement in between many of the stones. It does not look good, and when we showed it to our neighbors, they agreed. When we questioned the foreman and had the owner George come look at the wall they said it was fine, a beautiful wall. The foreman claimed it was the only way he could do it, that it was like a puzzle, and very difficult to find bigger stones. However, I was able to find at least 10 bigger flat rocks in our yard that could easily have been used on the top on the top of the wall and improved the appearance significantly. After the job wall was completed and we complained we were told this was how they did all their walls, and that after a year or so the cement would darken and look more like the rocks and we wouldn't notice how much cement was there. They claimed they could not and would not re-do any part of the wall. They became extremely hostile and belligerent. The phrase ?the customer is always right? means nothing to them.
We made the huge mistake of having them continue the job and complete our driveway, mostly because we just wanted to get the job done, a large part of the driveway had already been ripped up and we were tired of the mud and dirt around the cars.
After the driveway was completed we noticed a water run-off issue between the end of the wall and the driveway. After calling George and asking him to come look at the area, which seems like a reasonable request given this was a five-figure job, he basically stated that he wasn't coming by again, he'd spent enough time on us and our complaints. He said planting grass would stop the run-off and became extremely hostile and belligerent. His last statement was to the effect that they have about 5 - 10 unhappy customers and that's a pretty good record.
Bottom line, the masonry work is shoddy, do not use them for stone walls. The workers/formen show no concern about how the job comes out. The driveway is acceptable, but if you have any issues or dissatisfaction with the job, too bad, there will be absolutely no support from the company. We 100% regret using them and really wish we had read some of the online reviews before
