Awful nail treatments 8/30/2011

I have been going to Michael Alan for hair and sugaring services for years, so I decided to try the Shellac manicure as well in preparation for vacation - I didn't want to have to tote along polish remover, etc to touch up nicks! The service was terrible. The nail tech filed my nails WAAAYYYY too short (they don't even reach the ends of my fingers) and then applied the product in a very sloppy manner. The polish doesn't extend all the way to the edges of my nails and I have large voids near the tips of the nails. Fortunately the color I chose was light so its not terribly noticable, but I was still disappointed in the lack of attention to product application. Honestly my nails look like an 8 year old painted them. The Shellac process was involved - which I knew going in - abd removing the poorly applied polish would have taken more time than I cared to waste; removing Shellac requires a 10 minute soak in acetone before removing it, and then I'd have had to spend another 30 minutes having it redone with no guarantee it would be an improvement. Needless to say I still will go to MAS for my hair and sugar - those services are great - but I'll be going elsewhere for any more manicures! more

BEST salon i've ever been to 10/12/2010

when i walked into micheal alon i had brassy blonde hair that no stylist could seem to get under control. well, my stylist, rachel, sat and talked with me about what i was really looking for and i couldn't be more please with my color now. i have a beautiful pastel blonde that i have been trying to get for years! every other salon that i have gone to has told me that my hair just couldn't be that color....well now i have it!!! between that friendly staff, my talented stylist, and the top of the line products that were used and sold there, it was an amazing experience! i will never leave. more

Great cut, great people 4/12/2009

Been going to Michael Alan Salon a few years. Found a good stylist and people are friendly. Great cut, great people, great salon. Pros: Know what they're doing more

Don't go there for color or highlights! Some poor colorists! 2/28/2009

I have heard that some customers are very satisfied with the results on their hair. But I cannot believe that the Owner/manager would allow a hairstylist to work there who knows absolutely nothing about color! My hair ended up fried with tons of breakage! My hair was dark. I wanted blonde highlights. I stated that I eventually wanted to progress to more of a blonde over time. I was told that my hair would look "skunky" with blonde highlights (my friend had the same do and I did not find it to be "skunky" at all). So I listened to the "professional" and went ahead with stripping, single process, and highlights (while stressing that I did not want damaged hair). Needless to say, my hair ended up feeling like hay. I have been many colors, and this is the WORST experience I ever had! I am starting from scratch, back to dark. Devon at the hair cuttery is doing an absolutely superb job with restoring my hair! You would think that the manager at such an upscale salon would encourage their staff to ask questions if they do not know what the hell they are doing! Pros: Kathy's sugar wax on brows Cons: Color and profound hair damage from a poor colorist more

Tranquil and Relaxing 8/11/2008

I feel bad about the bride's experience with Nicole, but I don't think its fair to judge an entire spa on one employee, you wouldn't rate a restaurant based on your experience with one waiter afterall. I've never had my nails done by Nicole, I've always booked with Stacy-she's the best. She's always on time, prompt, and professional, yet friendly and welcoming. And if you are wondering-NO, I don't work for the salon!! Stacy has been doing my nails (both hands and feet) for years. Her manicures usually last about a week, and pedicures about 3-4 weeks. Compared with some lesser price salons that I've tried which usually last only a day or two. The nail area is small and quaint-not large and steril. The pedi room is private and soothing-tucked away from the hussel and bussel of the other salon activities. This definately is not the place to go if you want a cheap, quick and impersonal mani or pedi, but is definately the place to go for a relaxing experience. I would (and do) recommend Stacy at the salon to my family and friends!! Oh, and for the record, I've never, in all the times I've been there heard any employee gossip. Pros: Outstanding Quality, Punctual Cons: A little expensive more

just go to a cheaper nail salon... 7/16/2008

I have to agree with the first poster-- this is NOT the place to go if you want good service!!! Whoever wrote that last post singing this place's praises obviously WORKS for the salon, because I can't imagine anyone leaving here satisfied. I got a manicure here recently and first of all, the area is waaay too small! It seems like this was an afterthought in the salon. And the people just aren't friendly! I spent a lot more money there than I would at one of the cheaper nail salons and for what? My manicurist barely spoke to me, she did a subpar job, and instead the workers just sat around and gossiped rudely with each other. I'm grateful that I didn't have as bad of an experience as the first poster, but it was definitely crappy enough for me to get on here and post about it. I haven't tried their other services, but I'd check out other reviews before trying them out... Cons: cramped nail area, pricey, unfriendly staff more

Great place.... 7/7/2008

Wow, I was reluctant to go because of the reviews...but its a cool place, nice salon that has a nice nail area and the pedicure room is secluded so everyone does not have to see your feet get done. I'm guessing the negative reviews are from angry clients that come in ranting and raving about this and that or possible angry assistants the quit or get fired in the middle of the day, but its cool the staff was funny to watch and talk to since the are not stuck up or stuffy, really relaxed and don't mind ifur a little late, just not more than 15 or your appoint is canceled, but is a really cool place, try it Pros: great palce price and privacy Cons: mean clients that dont pay and stalk salon and staff more

HORRIBLE experience the day before my WEDDING 6/19/2008

Went there to get a french manicure and pay for manicures for all of my bridesmaids as part of their gift. I prepaid for all of the manicures and the manicurist's tip because I didn't want to dig for my credit card after the nails were done. First of all, I had booked this months in advance so I arranged for two manicurists to be working at the same time. When we got there we found out there was only one girl (her name is Nicole - never ever get your nails done by her) to work on everyone (there were 5 of us). The first girl went and got a regular manicure which turned out OK but how can you really screw up applying one color? However, it took an HOUR. Next I went, another HOUR AND A HALF later (keep in mind another 3 girls had to go after me and it was already 7 pm) my nails looked like I had done them with my left hand (I'm right-handed). They line was not straight and there was cotton stuck in some of them!!! I was on the verge of tears and asked her to fix them, which is when she proceeded to file all of my nails down! I had to get up and leave to go somewhere else, there was no way she could fix them , however they would not refund the $178 I paid!!! It was not until 2 WEEKS later that they finally refunded $131, which meant I basically paid $47 for one regular manicure. Oh and by the way, they originally tried to charge me $55 PER MANICURE for a "special bridal package" manicure. I asked them what the difference between that and the $24 manicure they have listed on their website and she said she couldn't tell me because she didn't know!! So she talked to a manager and said they could give me a "special deal" for $28 for a regular manicure and $33 for a french manicure. It was no special deal for the horrible job Nicole did and the terrible customer service I had to deal with. I went to Pro-Nails on Pauline Drive and $72 and only ONE HOUR later all 4 remaining girls were able to get their nails done beautifully!!! Pros: Absolutely non Cons: Will not give full refunds, Terrible customer service and management, Terrible manicurist more
