I went here for the first time last 6/10/2012

I went here for the first time last night. This place always has a line out the door. After eating here I'm guienely not sure why. I'm not a person who writes Internet reviews but eating here, I couldnt help but to warn others before they waste their money. Service: just ok Rice: crunchy, not fully cooked. Maragirta: get a beer, the Margs are undrinkable!!!!! If you are only going to have one variety with no choice of tequila at least make it good. Beans: delicious Birria: good I recommend if you are going to come to South Tucson for good food, go to Guillermo's across the street. Better maragartas, ice cold beer on tap, but skip the seafood enchiladas- its not good. more

Vastly Overrated 3/20/2011

This place is a joke. Salsa is probably out of a bottle bought at Safeway. Terrible. Runny, soupy, and in no way fresh. I had the President's Plate, a tamale, which was barely edible and just like the ones served at dozens of others ""Mexican"" restaurants around the city. I suspect they all come from the same place. The enchilada was nothing but some shredded chicken wrapped in a corn tortilla, covered with tasteless cheese and some sort of gravy. The chile relleno was not that bad. It was better than the horrible ones at El Minuto and El Charro but still nothing to write home about. The ""bean tostado"" was a fried tortilla in the shape of a bowl containing a soupy mixture of unidentifiable substance covered by shredded lettuce. There was probably 1/3 of a head of iceberg lettuce on my place. The management is arrogant. Service is OK, with servers doing their best under what are probably horrible working conditions. This is my 3rd visit, and I will never go again. This is a place to be avoided. Gene Gandy more

Horrible place 12/4/2010

Horrible place! The salsa was essentially plain red water! I am sure they didn't serve that to Bill Clinton. The guacamole was sour and looked as if it's been sitting around for days. The 'fresh salsa' had no taste. The frozen margarita tasted artificial. Most food comes from cans and is overheated in microwaves (this part I would understand, but do not pretend to be one of the best mexican restaurants in Tucson!) The hype and the wait are totally unjustified. more

White Dude Married to a Latina 3/3/2010

I had the President's Platter. I wish I lived here to come back and try everything else on the menu, Im stuffed. The Chile Rellanos are to die for you HAVE to get one, NO REALLY YOU HAVE TO! The refried beans are homemade perfectly. The Tamale was excellent and also the chicken enchillada. But the FLAN with whip cream stole the show! I am a white dude who is married to a Latina and have eaten many authentic mexican dishes IN MEXICO, and this place was like sitting at Tia Aracelis house back in Mexico. Pros: This place takes me back to Mexico... Cons: I wish I wasn't so full so I could try more stuff! more

Continues to be good food! 9/21/2009

This continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in the Tucson area. The food is consistently good and the staff are efficient and friendly. My only regret is always the wait, but I do love how they are open late, so it's always worth it! Pros: tried and true authentic Mexican food! Cons: The wait more

So This Is What Great Mexican Food Is Like 10/14/2008

I live in Seattle where it is commonly said there is ""no good Mexican food"". I happened to be in Tuscon recently and decided to have a late dinner at Mi Nidito. I was absolutely blown away. From the chips and salsa which were obviously made fresh in house to the chili rellenos, enchiladas, tacos and tostadas-I was given a lesson in what authentic Mexican food is supposed to be like. The Mexican food I have been eating for years does not even resemble the food I was served at Mi Nidito. I'm looking for a reason to go back to Tuscon just so I can eat at Mi Nidito again. One of the best meals of my life. The only downside to this meal was that it ruined eating Mexican food in my hometown forever. Pros: Best Mexican Food more

Take your out of town visitors 5/9/2007

First off Horchard who gave the place one star is an IDIOT! Velveta at a restaurant?! No wonder they looked at you like you were practically stupid. Chile con queso is not authentic Mexican food and if you think it is please take yourself back to your obviously midwest or eastern part of our United States, we dont really need your closed minded viewpoints here. The food is great, prices are right, security ( I think it was) in the parking lot is super. The staff is not necessiarly nice but that is much better than fake and phoney, and you dont go lacking for anything. Pros: food is soo good, served relatively fast Cons: yes you do have to wait. If you like your service to be coddled, not the best place more

Best mexican food in tucson! Truely authentic... get there early for faster seating, excellent margaritas!! 3/12/2007

This is the spot to be after a night out with friends or family. Your more then likely to see someone you know! The food tastes home cooked, it definitly is not something you will find anywhere else. The tacos and chili rellenos are to die for. And plus the prices are pocket friendly.. even the waiters are authentic. You may just get one that speaks only broken english. The resaurant has a story to tell, its a feast for the eyes and tummy! I have since left Tucson but yet still find myself craving Mi Nidito (my little nest) Jimmy works hard to remember his loyal customers and treats all very fair. You won't find service like that of Mi Nidito anywhere else. more

Great Service, Good Food, Decent Prices... 2/3/2007

Mi Nidito was a place we checked out with our family when we moved here a week ago. The food was great and the prices were reasonable, much lower than some of the other places in town! Truly authentic Sonoran food, I had the Presidents Plate, which is a mound of just about everything, Chile Relleno, Enchilada, Tamale, Tostada, and a Taco. I couldn't finish it all, but everyone was pleasantly suprised with what we ate and the prices, the service was great, we were treated like we had been regulars for years, and were seated in about 45 minutes, even with a party of 8...highly recommend! Pros: Great service, great food, great prices Cons: Can be a long wait on a weekend at dinner time, location is a little out of the way more

Authentic Sonoran Food with Heart - Worth the Wait - AAAAAA+++++ 12/20/2006

For 24 years I lived in Tucson. I saw MiNidito grow from a small hole in the wall to a larger bustling restaurant. The reviewer before me just hasn't a clue that the food at MiNidito would never include Velveta for that is an anglicized dish he speaks of - not authentic. The food is Sonoran, and even more, it is the Mexican food style of Tucson at its very best. MiNidito food is NOT some Epcot version of generic Mexican food equal to the ""genuine"" American food experience of McDonald's! This is food like I ate in the homes of my Mexican friends. I've been gone now for 14 years as a permanent Tucson resident yet I can walk into MiNidito, work my way to the desk, and Jimmy will greet me as if I was there last week. I am greeted by name. But I get no favorite treatment - because everyone is treated the same to personal service and fabulous food AND it's good discipline to wait to get it! :) We found we just planned for the wait. A lot of good conversation on warm nights just whet the appetite for when we were seated. Slow down and savor the company and the food. You owe yourself that. Pros: Authentic Sonoran Mexican food; consistency; kind and willing service Cons: Parking more

The absolute worst in Tucson dining 12/8/2006

This resturant came highly recommended as the finest Tucson has to offer in mexican food. Pros: None Cons: Everything about it, there were long lines although it was not worth the wait more

Good, but not great 7/8/2006

OVER RATED!! DEFINITELY NOT WORTH AN HOUR OR MORE WAIT. MUCH BETTER MEXICAN RESTUARANTS IN TUCSON. ALTHOUGH, THE TOPOPO SALAD IS A FAVORITE OF MINE, I REFUSE TO WAIT MORE THAN 20 MINUTES TO BE SEATED, WHICH I BELIEVE IS AN ACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF WAIT TIME. Pros: TOPOPO SALAD Cons: TOO SMALL, NOT ENOUGH PARKING, AND LONG more

The best 2/2/2006

It takes forever to get a seat, but you've got to go! Pros: food, value, ambiance Cons: long wait for table more

Best Mexican restaurant in Tucson 5/3/2005

Although you usally have to wait up to and hour to be seated, it is well worth the wait. Once you are seated, service is quick. Not only is it the best Mexican food, but it is not expensive. I have not eaten anything there I did not like. I have been eating there since 1970. Sometimes I am there 4 times a week. Pros: inexpensive, great food, take outs Cons: waits up to an hour, no reservations more

The best there is 7/18/2004

I lived in Tucson from 1989 to 2000. When I come back it's off to Mi Nidito's. Absolutely the best Sonoran-style there is, and Tucson has a lot of truly great places. To be favorably compared to Mi Nidito is a compliment and an honor. It's not Tex-Mex which is what I've endured in AR, OK, and TX these past four years. Pros: Food is awesome, Authentic, Sonoran! more

thanks ""CHICK"" 5/22/2004

The best food ! Flaky delicious-Great PRESIDENT PLATE. A unique salsa to complment the finest chilli rellenos in tucson,az. The atmosphere is appreciated more with every visit. The food is wonderful and we have always had room for the flan. Thank you again, amedave Pros: great food, close to everything, worthy of a wait Cons: , could expand menu, more desserts more

Not what it used to be 3/11/2004

Long time customer, but not for long. Their service has really really gone down hill, and their food is not as tasty as it used to be. It seems to be a trend these days with once fantastic restaurants. Their prices are average, not too expensive, but not too cheap. The food portions are generous, but not the quality it was onced praised for. If anything, I'd ONLY recommend the enchilades. The service really stinks all the times I've been eating there for the past few months. Pros: Reasonable Price, Portions of Food Cons: , Bad Parking, Long waits more

WE LOVE MI NIDITO RESTAURANT 3/1/2004

I have been going to Mi Nidito Restaurant since 1957! The quality of the food has been consistently good since that time! Nothing has changed! It is definitely our favorite restaurant in the Tucson area!!! Pros: Food always excellent, Atmosphere is great, Owners are wonderful more
