Best Vet in Austin 5/22/2012

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Henry Meyer for over 5 years. In my opinion, there is no better, kinder vet in Austin than Dr. Meyer. He is extraordinarily knowledgeable about animals, and you wlll get the best possible care for your pets. I have always been extremely impressed with Dr. Meyer. The other plus is that the cost for care at this Clinic is very, very reasonable. And, if you have a larger vet bill, this Clinic is always willing to work with you about a payment plan or a post-dated check. Hands down, Dr. Meyer CARES about your pets. Yes, the Clinic is usually busy and you will be put on hold when you call, but think about it - that is a small price to pay for excellent, very affordable vet care. Leslie Stavrowsky\r \r more

Now located:2400 East Oltorf St, Suite 10A, Austin 78741 3/30/2012

Dr. E. Henry Meyer at Riverside Veterinary Clinic 443-3111 2400 East Oltorf St, Suite 10A Austin, TX 78741 Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri: 7am - 6:30pm Sat: 8:30am - noon Dr. E. Henry Meyer at Riverside Veterinary Clinic is an Austin institution and his clients love him, as you will see from all the pet photos lining the walls of his clinic. Here is why I am recommending him: On the afternoon of 3/7/11, my cat broke a fang tooth at the gum line. I called the animal hospital where I had been taking my cats since 2004. They quoted me between $550 and $618 to remove the root of the tooth. But, they could not do the operation until 4 days later. My cat was in pain. I called Dr. Meyer, who had spayed my cat after I rescued her (she was feral). I was quoted $85. Dr Meyer was going to be out of the office at continuing education the next day, but, he said if I could bring my cat to his office within the hour, he would stay late and do the surgery that night. Which he did. When I collected my cat the next day, she was in an excellent mood, and the total bill was $97 because she needed antibiotics that Dr. Meyer charged $12 for. (I had payed $25 for the same antibiotic at my regular vet on 9/30/10 because the area around her fang tooth was inflamed (the tooth was cracked even then, but her yearly exam at my regular vet ($190.48) did not disclose this fact.) I took my cat back to Dr. Meyer on 3/16/11 to have the stitches removed (no charge.) Although Riverside Clinic is not convenient for me, I now will be taking all 4 of my cats to Dr. Meyer for all their medical needs. He went beyond the call of duty for my cat. Positives: Competent, caring service at a very reasonable cost. Willing to work around his regular schedule to help a cat in pain. Front desk employees have always been exceptionally kind and helpful to me. Negatives: Owners can't go to the exam room with their pets. They take your pet to the back, then return the pet to you in the waiting room. more

Best vet care, wonderful treatment 12/28/2009

Dr. Meyer is the most caring vet I have ever met, in many many years of vet visits with many vets. I drive across town to see him, partly because of the good care and partly because he sets prices so low. He also does a great deal of volunteer and pro bono work, both for clients and for the community. When my cat got old and suffered renal failure, the clinic was so helpful and caring, they helped me extend his life by two years. When it was finally time for euthanasia, Dr. Meyer was the MOST caring and kind vet, both for me and for my dear old cat. When I brought in a rescue cat, he did a great deal for her and wouldn't charge me, in fact giving me several valuable items for free to assist with our rescue work. In an altruistic profession, Dr. Meyer really is the most compassionate and most altruistic vet I ever met. After going to Riverside Vet Clinic, every other vet seems way expensive and the care is not as good, why would I go anywhere else? Pros: Very caring manner, excellent care, very affordable Cons: Sometimes too busy, sometimes a long wait more

A godsend... 8/17/2009

When my older dog developed a tumor, my old vet, with no biopsy diagnosed cancer and estimated trtmt at nearly $1,000 and was pushing me to have it done NOW. The haste and price were alarming. Several friends rec'd Dr. Meyer. He removed & biopsied the lump. Diagnosis: benign. Total cost: $140. Even better, he was SO kind and caring it was almost saintly. Pros: Incredibly compassionate more

Wish I still could go to Dr. Meyer but I moved to Houston 12/28/2008

Dr. Meyer is hands down the best vet in town. I took my two dogs and cat to him while living in Austin. He has the best 'bed side manner' and is so thorough. His staff is the best crew in town as well. Every single person that I've come across in Dr. Meyer's clinic is well educated, caring, compassionate, patient, and helpful. I have often considered driving to Austin when I need to take one of my babies to the vet because I like him that much. Dr. Meyer and his staff set the bar extremely high for all other clinics and I've found it difficult to find anyone that comes even close. Sigh.... I just made an appointment with a vet in town for one of my dogs? heart murmur and I found myself considering taking him to Austin to see Dr. Meyer once again! more

What a vet should be 1/10/2008

Dr. Meyer has been the vet for our family pets for years. He is quite caring, and his fees are so reasonable they almost drift into the charitable range. I have sent friends to him, and, after the experiences they have had with other vets, they tend to be so appreciative for the referral that you'd think I had given them the secret of eternal life. more

Loved it! 9/28/2006

I was recomended to Dr. Meyers by a co-worker for my new kitten's inital exam and shots. I had taken my other cat when he was a kitten to a cat only vet in westlake and paid close to $200 for my cats anual, medicine, and shots and still was not entirely impressed. However, Dr. Meyes at the Riverside clinic was so informative and polite and extremely resonable. I could not believe the service I received for the price. You can tell he really cares about his guest and for the animals. I would recomend him to anyone looking for a new vet... more

THE BEST VET!! 5/1/2005

I've seen Dr Meyer since 1989 and my boyfriend has been seeing him for years also. He has always given wonderful care and has helped work out arrangements when money was a problem. He is the BEST VET EVER!! Pros: CARING, Easy to park, On time more

My Favorite Vet 11/15/2002

I have taken my pets to Dr. Meyer for 20 years and have always been happy with his treatment and his natural way with animals. He has taken care of my pets when necessary through the night as if they were his own pets. I don't know how I would have made it through some tough times without his sensitive and caring nature. He is the Greatest! more
