All I can say is ""meh""... Food is kinda bland. Not enough meat, drinks are expensive... Wait service was nice though... Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: everything else

worst mexican food 9/28/2004

This food was bad. It was so bad I was wondering all night which was worst the sample appitizer or the microwaved burrito what I had for entree. However, I also tried their ""sound delicious"" strawberry flan, which was also so tasteless they had to put some frozen strawberry on the top with whipped creme also from the can. Bottom line bad quality food with avarage margaritas. more

This food was bad. It was so bad I was wondering all night which was worst the sample appitizer or the microwaved burrito what I had for entree. However, I also tried their "sound delicious" strawberry flan, which was also so tasteless they had to put some frozen strawberry on the top with whipped creme also from the can. Bottom line bad quality food with avarage margaritas. more

A little disappointed 9/7/2004

I made a reservation for 10 at 8pm this past Labor Day to celebrate my brother's 21st birthday. We arrive at 8 to find out that the hosts had given our reservation away to a party of 10 that they thought was me. After so many apologies, my party and I still waited an hour for a table. Finaly we were seated on 2 seperate tables outside. So you can imagine we were all a bit furious. Thankfully the waiter was wonderful and turned our bad evening to a semi-good one. So I dont know if I should recommend making a reservation when they dont keep it anyway. Oh and all we got for the hassle was a free flan. *sigh* Pros: that ONE waiter, 30% off Monday Menu Cons: , Service, Attitude more

This place continues to plummet downhill. I have been going here since they opened about 8 years ago. Used to be my favorite...I even had a couple of birthdays here. The portions have gotten skimpier, the ingredients skimpier...Hey bud can ya spare a couple cubes of chicken? Now they have these annoying rubber tablecloths that make everything stick to the table. What happened to the nice hardwood tables? Pros: Monday 30% off, Parking, Patio Cons: , Bad Food, Skimpy drinks & Food more

Mexicali is a WONDERFUL restaurant!! they have the best mexican food and wonderful margaritas(there mango margarita is excellent) I love going to this restaurant and I make sure i go everytime i visit L.A. If you love mexican food, you will love this restaurant, the burrito is excellent! Pros: great food, great margaritas, good service more

Snotty folks that have to have a ""scene"" will like this place -- it's packed and loud. Great for weekend nights, but expect a wait b/c they don't take true reservations. Calling ahead will only get you on a list so when all of your party arrives, they supposedly put you at the ""top of the list."" The food seems healthier and less messy than traditional Mexican, but it's still good and reasonably priced. Pros: drinks, good food, reasonably priced Cons: wait is too long, loud more

I'm a Studio City local and I avoid this place as much as I can. It used to be my absolute favorite, but the quality of the food took a nosedive and the waiters think they're smartasses. Why aren't there any waitresses? Their staff seem to be picked for their looks, not their work ethic. Not what I want when I'm picking up the check. Better go to Casa Vega, just down the road. Very bad exprience 12/15/2002

We were trying to look for something that was open after 11 pm. I knew about this place, so we stopped by. It was crowded, very noisy, the food was disgustingly bad. We had to send the 1/2 chicken back. It was very old and tasted very stale. Anything else we tried was really not good at all. The Margaritas are not a big deal either. There are places with much better margaritas. I didn't understnad why the place was so popular and packed. I guess there's nothing better in that area. Pros: open after 11 Cons: noisy, bad food more
