Best

This place was special. food is excellent. we walked around trying to find the best burger spot in the slope. we passed this really nice lady walking her dog that told us to try ...

Worst

Me and my husband recently went here for a late Friday night dinner. First we ordered the oysters - which came without cocktail sauce or lemon, actually they gave us an empty cup ...

sweet neighborhood spot 11/3/2006

based on citysearch reviews, my boyfriend and i decided on this slightly far out neighborhood eatery for our anniversary. on a saturday evening at 7pm we basically had the place to ourselves. the decor is brown warm sophisticated modern. the waitress was knowledgeable but not too pushy. we had some cocktails, mine was a honey vodka pear and ginger champagne which was strong but enough to give you a great buzz. our appetizer was GRILLED OCTOPUS which was basically a salad but with very tasty small morsels of octopus. my entree was CRISPY DUCK with pearl cous cous and spinach which was delicous. the other dish was KOBE BURGER with fries which was also very good. the meal was complemented by a SPANISH WINE and a CREME BRULEE SAMPLER ( four different flavors). i'm on the lookout for a place i would actually go back to in brooklyn's (specifically BOCOCA's) vast choices of eateries. this one is very romantic however not for a social lounge scene, not for a fun girls night out. it is good for large parties if you arrange it ahead of time, as we were leaving a party of 25 came in! def a good tiny date spot. for cocktails, appetizer, bottle of wine, two entrees and dessert expect to cost about a C-note. Pros: tasty food, intimate setting Cons: not a social scene more

Great food, but average service. 10/29/2006

I was really surprised ,the food at Melt was very good. I had the special, it was a shrimp dish.\r It was pretty busy, only one waitress on duty, but she was really trying her best. Very nice decor, a relaxing place to hang out with friends for a few drinks, fresh and tasty food. 10/22/2006

My friends and I, on numerous ocassions, have dined at Melt. Each time, we have tried different dishes on the menu. I must say that the food is very flavorful. I have not been disappointed! Kudos to the chef! I have also come in just to hang out at the bar. Had some tasty dessert. The bartender is very friendly and a great conversationalist. It's a great place to relax and start the weekend on a Friday night. Must Try the Kobe Burger and the Salmon!!! They are highly recommended! Pros: A variety of tasty, flavorful dishes, Nice decor Cons: Difficult to find parking before 7pm more

After living in NYC for 10 years... 10/3/2006

...and moving to Park Slope, MELT has proven to be just as gourmet and fabulous as anything on the island. My husband and I went there for the 20$ tasting menu and we were blown away by the complexity of flavor, balance and presentation. The Beastie Boys were playing in the back ground and we had fantastic wine to accompany. This could EASILY be my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn. The waitress/ staff were so sweet and polite as well. I couldnt give this place a higher recommendation. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Need more 20$ prix fix days more

Attention to detail 9/23/2006

The staff is welcoming and friendly, the decor is tasetful and stylish, and the food is great. But I think it's the little details that make dining at melt such a great experience. Little details like having a cocktail special every evening (and the bartender is talented), like offering from a selection of breads (olive bread is especially good), and really attentive service. Your wine and water glasses are always kept topped up, they don't make you keep your dirty cutlery for the second course, and the wait staff wait until everyone at the table has finished their meal before clearing the plates, which is SO rare & very much appreciated. The food is great, I've never had a bad meal here. The whipped mashed potatoes are divine, and the specials are always interesting and yum. Brunch here is also fantastic - the omelette is so light and fluffy, I have been three times for brunch & keep saying I'll try something new, but I can't resist it every time. I highly recommend Melt, and while they'd probably be busier if they were right on 5th Avenue, their position means you can nearly always get a table without a reservation. Pros: Lighting, decor, cocktails Cons: None! more

Best meal I've had in a long time! 9/10/2006

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Melt on Friday, and both left thrilled with our experience!\r \r While we both planned on trying some of the regular menu items, we arrived to find out that the night's special was filet mignon with truffle laced mashed potatos and grilled asparagus, and neither of use could resist!\r \r The filet was the tender cut of meat I've ever had, and was a good size portion. The mashed potatos were delicious as well (I only wish the serving was a tad larger!). The cabernet sauvignon reduction sauce was TO DIE FOR. Delicious!! \r \r The service was good, the drinks strong and relatively cheap, and the atmosphere comfortable. We will definitely be returning to Melt! more

Worth checking out 8/29/2006

Cant vouch for the regular menu, since I tried only the $20 tasting night. Don't know why some reviewers didn't like the service. The service was great. Although the dark brown "trendy" decor is not to my taste, you might like it. The Tuesday tasting night is a tad disappointing. The food is excellent. No question. I thought the latke and salmon & cream cheese didnt really work that well together, but that's nitpicking. The food overall was really good, very tasty. Don't be fooled by the sound of "a 5 course dinner", since it really is a TASTING menu, not even close to normal size or even appetizer-size portion. To give you an idea: the bellini with ginger and mushrooms was exquisite, but only around 2.5" by 1.5", the zucchini pancake with 1 shrimp on top (the shrimp was amazing, the pancake a bit greasy) was around 2.5" by 2.5". The only close-to-appetizer-size portion was the lamb and rice, which was really delicious. Its a night to give you an idea what the chef can do, nothing more. Is it worth the $20? Yea, kinda. But dont count on it for dinner. Unless you eat like a bird, the 5 "courses" will leave you hungry. I actually went to eat elsewhere afterwards. The concept of the tasting night is good, but I would make several changes. (1) Increase the portion sizes. If that means increasing the price, so be it. I'd rather pay $30-35 for a satisfying meal than taste 5 items that leave me hungry. (2) Offer those items on the regular menu. Now, they are not. (3) Have more variety. 4 of the 5 items were similar: the bellini was similar to the crepe (w/chicken, which was a tad too sharp), and the potato latke was similar to the zucchini latke. Overall, I think its certainly worth checking out. Ill probably go there again. Pros: Delicious food. Good service. Clean. Cons: Small portions, crowded seats more

Great place 8/12/2006

Ok, first off, I'm probably one of the most frequent customers at this place, so obviously I like it. That said, this place is great, although to get the best experience it is helpful to understand it. First, the place is fairly small, and the kitchen is even smaller, so if it gets crowded, you can expect to wait for your food for a while. Second, they have a five course tasting menu on Tuesdays for $20 in place of the normal menu, which while one or two items may not be something you in particular like, it is always a treat to try. They also have a wine tasting that can be ordered on Tuesdays, with a different type of wine with each of the five courses. one caution... as a result of the tasting menu, Monday nights they tend to be out of a dish or two, as they don't want to hold stock over Tuesday, so if you want to get a full selection, I would try any other day other than Monday. They frequently have very good specials that are also worth trying as well, and are usually changed out every Wed. As for the normal menu items, my favorites are the HUGE shell steak (ask for extra mushrooms and sauce, you will be glad you did), and the pork tenderloin. I have brought many of my family members here when they visit, and they have all enjoyed whatever they tried. My cousin that visits from Cali fairly frequently always wants to go back, so it can't be that bad. That said, this is the type of place where you can in general get the best service if you sit at the bar. The bartenders are all very friendly and willing to chat, and most of the people that come in and sit at the bar are regulars that are nice to get to know as well. If you do come with more than two or three people and sit at a table, don't hesitate to ask for refills on water and bread if that is what you want. All in all, I enjoy eating there (several times a week at times), and can recommend it to anybody. more

Tuesday $20 tasting menu and a good bet on the weekends, no wait 7/8/2006

One of the best of Park Slope. The service was great!!!!!!!!! No waiting and friendly staff makes this a must trek to Brooklyn. Chef Brian combines fresh ingredients and artful skill to creat some of the most delicious dishes in N.Y.C. . Always ask for the food and drink specials, you can't go wrong! The location is great for dates and romantic incounters, but after 11 pm the bar gets busy with beautiful 20 and 30 somethings. Pros: great food, friendly staff, great ambiance more

Service is terrible 4/13/2006

We like to order in, which is completely hit or miss with this place. They rarely have a delivery guy, and he may or may not be willing to deliver--if they remember to place your order or even get the order right. But the food is quite good. Pros: food Cons: service, poor delivery more

Twas a good time 11/12/2005

I was taken to Melt by a friend for to celebrate my new job. I was impressed by the decor of the establishment. The salad I started with was flavorful. It did take a lil minute for the main course duck to arive. However once on my table the meat fell right off the bone. The cabbage was tasty and I'm not a fan of cabbage. We did wait a second for bread but it was refilled promptly. Important because it was good and I'm a fan of bread. The best part of the meal was the apple cobbler desert. Any shortcomings which were few and far in between were crossed out by this desert. And please I can't forget the music that played in tbe background was perfect for me. I'm a big house/dance music fan and it was mellow but good enough to keep my energy up. Pros: Decor, Food, Music more
