Mellow Mushroom

If your looking for a neat place for lunch then check out the Mellow Mushroom http://www.mellowmushroom.com in downtown Augusta, GA. It's a really funky place with weird art on the walls and an old gas pump near the front door, just a real casual atmosphere. They serve great salads, calzones, pizza and hoagies. The salads come with their famous Esperanza Dressing, and I can't begin to tell you what's in it or describe the taste, but it is delicious. They have several different salads but most people will ask for that dressing. I have never seen it any place else. As far as I can tell on their website they are located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alaska, N Carolina, S Carolina, Texas and Virginia. They are spread around so if you get a chance to try one do, I don't think you'll be disappointed. more

A great joint on a corner of Broad Street which used to be an old gas station carries some of that history inside. Grab a bite to eat on the patio which used to be a service garage. Bring friends with you because the pizza could feed an army and a calzone can be leftovers for a week. Be cautious if you are intimidated by hippies. The VW van on the wall, various 420 references on the menus, and well... mushroom decore may have you outside of your comfort bubble. Don't take your bill up front to pay either. more

mellow mushroom is nestled in the courtyard on the right side of broad street and is a very lively pizza joint, huge pizzas that fill the table and the aroma fills the air are hand tossed while you watch, arrive early and stay late. lively, busy, stand in line to wait but well worth it. set at the bar or one of the tables but speak up or you won't be heard! more
