While one could get caught up watching the action at the gigantic wood-fired oven or in the spotless open kitchen, the beautifully appointed dining room at Kuletos Trattoria in Burlingame is an oasis of tranquility in the mid-Peninsula. Equally as good for a business lunch or a romantic dinner, Kuletos has brisk, but efficient service, a menu with copious choices, and a substantial wine list. While the food is generally well executed, many dishes lack the attention to detail one would find at a smaller establishment. Thus, the results from the kitchen can be a mixed bag: an overdressed Caesar Salad, a piquant Puree of Vegetable Soup, a gargantuan, but slightly soggy Hanger Steak Sandwich, and an excellent wood-fired Onion Pizzetta. While Kuletos is priced for businesspeople on expense accounts, with a little more attention to detail, it could be the best Italian restaurant in the mid-Peninsula.
