Great Great Great!!! 5/13/2008

Ok so i have been here for happy hour and dinner. Let me start off by saying STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT HAPPY HOUR SERVICE!! Customers are paying 1.95 for a tasty cheeseburger and fries and get to hang out in a cozy bar. To top it off it looks like the servers take on lots of tables their only human guys. Now on to dinner, i had dinner here with my wife about 2 months ago and let me start off by saying our server was very attentive and proffesional i believe his name was Conrad. I ordered the jambalaya and my wife had the crusted tilapia. The server then offered the etouffe he said if i liked the jambalaya that i would love the etouffe and gosh was he right. We then had a delicious caramel almond bowl with ice cream and berries. Kudos to McShmicks!! Pros: Great service, food variety Cons: parking more

Excellent food and service 1/24/2008

I went there tonight with my wife for dinner. Food was excellent; my wife didn't see anything she wanted on the menu so the chef cooked a custom shrimp meal. I ordered the crab and shrimp cakes for an appetizer and wow....that was one of the tastiest morsels ever eaten. Then I got the trio dish with a fillet mignon and king crab legs and a dessert of raspberry Creme brulee. I ate the crab legs first having gone there for seafood and all and I must say they were absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly and served with a warm butter dip...truly a treat to my pallet. Next I moved on to the fillet mignon. It was perfectly cooked and nice and tender. However it lacked flavor...I am the type that enjoys the seasonings on the meat not the taste of the meat itself. So a tad bit of A1 and presto chango a delicious steak. To finish off my meal I was served a raspberry Creme brulee. I had never had this dish before and wasn't sure exactly what to expect. However it surpassed my expectations. It was cold, warm, crunchy and soft.....all that in one little spoon of it. This meal was washed down with a nice always full glass of Iced Tea that was brewed with mango and gave it an excellent flavor. I would go back to this place just to get some iced tea....very good. Overall I would definitely go back to this place to eat. The total bill for two people came to about $70 but I did order an appetizer and the most expensive meal on the menu at $30. Our server was a bald guy named Frank S. He was a very good server and I tipped him accordingly. Pros: waiter was nice, food was great, tea was awesome Cons: my stomach wasn't big enough to try everything I wanted more

great happy hour 9/14/2007

this restaurant is known for their seafood, stick to ordering just that! their happy hour burger is dry, not worth the $1.95 but for the same price you can get fish tacos and salmon cakes among other choices. $4.95 will get you mussels in a garlic and onion broth, which i highly recommend. stay away from the happy hour wines, it really tastes like a $3.50 glass of wine, yuck! i come to the late night happy hour, 9:30-11pm, at least once a month and it's strictly for the food. i guess you'll have to sacrifice something for the cheap happy hour prices, service has much left to be desired in the bar. more

DREADFUL SERVICE, TIRED DECOR, PASSABLE FOOD 9/6/2007

Sep 2007 Dinner for 8. They lost my reservation, and made us stand for 10 minutes. The staff was completely lacking in warmth, and seemed poorly trained. When asked for assistance in selecting an entree, the waitress replied, ""I wouldn't know, I don't eat raw fish."" The decor is shabby and tired (a la Marie Callendars). The wait for our food seemed interminable. The food was passable, but nothing to write home about. As I was leaving, I learned that McCormick and Schmicks only validates for 1 hour. I tried to pay for parking with a credit card. I was told that the Plaza Las Fuentes parking lot accepts cash only (I had none). I had just paid them $284 for dinner. I called the restaurant manager to express dismay. He told me he receives constant complaints about that issue. He told me he is tired of hearning about it. He repeatedly told me it wasn't his fault, he told me there was nothing he could do, and he offered no apology. He suggested that if I don't like it, I should call the Plaza Las Fuentes management company to complain. He had no answer and no apology about the lost reservation either. Are you kidding me?? I will never go back. Pros: Passable food, good selection of seafood Cons: Poorly trained staff, unacceptable parking situation, lost reservation more

Best Happy Hour in Pasadena and Beyond 7/8/2007

The 5 stars are for the happy hour - if it was just the restaurant I would give 3 or 4 stars. I've been to the restaurant itself once for a business lunch and once for a rehearsal dinner - both times were good, not stand-out. I personally am not a huge fan of American food so the prices here are too expensive for me - if I'm going to pay that price I would go to a four-star French place on the beach or something.\r \r But the happy hour - oh, the wonder of McCormick & Schmick's happy hour. they have TWO times - one in the afternoon which is always packed (sometimes can't get a table) and the other from like 9 to 11pm (check their web page for exact times) which has never been busy when I've been there. The wine and beer are reduced price but no mixed drinks on the happy hour list. However the food - they have $2 meals and $6 meals during happy hour. Completely amazing - go for a late, filling dinner at a high-end restaurant out on the patio - romantic and extremely inexpensive. The other best happy hour in Pasadena (for the food and drinks) is the Yard House, but that place is so packed (can't get a table unless you line up before the happy hour starts) and parking is so bad that it makes it impossible to go to there. Pros: Happy hour, especially the late-night one. Cons: Go early for afternoon happy hour because it's packed; normal restaurant prices are expensive. more

Great Pasadena Hideaway at the Westin Hotel; HAPPY HOUR!!! 1/29/2007

I only come to this place for the awesome Happy Hour (two separate times). These guys have normal appetizers and gourmet items like Rockefeller Oysters and Steamed Mussels. However, should have beer happy hour as well. Wine list decent for happy hour. This place is a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of Old town Pasadena. more

Good seafood plus super happy hours 6/14/2006

I love the seafood at this restaurant. It's yum and not overpriced. During happy hours, they offer a lot of selections of appetizers and small meals from $1.95 to $4.95. There is a $3 beverage charge required per person. A glass of red/white wine costs $3. The waitors at the bar area was a little slow during happy hour. The waitors at the restaurant area are excellent. Pros: Fresh seafood. Nice gourmet. Cons: Slow service during happy hour more

Considering only the food 2/25/2006

I arrived at 8:30 on a Sunday evening. The website said that they were open until 10, but I was informed that if they run out of one or more types of fresh fish, they may close early, and they had closed. I made a fuss about it, since I had made a special trip, and they agreed to let me order something to go. The maitre d' was pleasant enough until he learned that I intended to pay with my Horizon Airlines gift voucher, and then he chilled so noticeably that it was somewhat comical. Nonetheless, I got my Penne Salmon Medallions to go, and when I arrived home and ate it, it was outstanding! The salmon was delightfully seared, the asparagus was cooked exactly right, the pesto cream sauce with pine nuts was wonderful. more

Disappointing 7/22/2002

I took my wife there on a wednesday night for her birthday. It wan't crowded at all but took the waiter forever to even take our order! It took even longer to get the food! The whole affaire took 2 hours! No kidding! Not that I was looking for fast food but waiting over an hour for food was rediculous! The food wasn't worth the wait. more

Brunch 6/12/2002

I enjoyed Easter Brunch here. Wait staff is ok, but not very attentive. Seems that the busboys do most of the work. Our food was pretty good, nothing special. I had ham with potatoes, fresh fruit, orange juice, and rolls/bread were included. For a couple of dollars more we had unlimited champagne which was fair. Cons: meter parking more

best monday night lobster 5/30/2002

If you love lobster, Monday is the best day to go this restaurant, very affordable and servers are nice but not very attentive. Mostly elder people dine here, its good for groups and families but not for couples... Pros: good parking more

There are other fish in the sea 5/16/2002

Bland, unispired off-the-rack seafood entrees served by mildly attentive waitstaff in a mail-order decor meant to look old and clubby. McCormick & Schmick's is just depressing. more
